Chapter 4: When No One Whispers at Night
Just after midnight, Qiuxuan bravely went out.
The undercurrents in the Marquis's mansion were turbulent. If she closed the door and pretended nothing had happened, she would die without knowing how. After living in confusion for so long, Qiu Xuan felt it was better to be a clear-headed ghost.
"Meet the madam."
The maid guarding the gate had been waiting for a long time, and since the head of the family had given the order, no one would stop Qiu Xuan.
"How is the princess?"
"The Marquis doesn't allow us to disturb the princess, and the princess never asks us to enter the house to serve her."
Qiu Xuan nodded. Yes, the old lady did not want to have a head-on conflict with Jing Beian.
That's right, otherwise, why would she be needed as a pawn? Wouldn't it be better to just tie the princess up and lock her up in the woodshed and get everything out of her?
Qiu Xuan walked to the door and pushed it open without thinking.
The princess was doing splits in the room when she was startled by Qiu Xuan and almost lost her balance. Qiu Xuan quickly took two steps forward to support her.
"Why do you never knock on the door before entering the house?" Princess Feifei patted her chest with lingering fear.
"In case the princess won't let me in." Qiu Xuan helped her sit down and carefully checked if she was okay. "What were you doing just now?"
Princess Feifei quickly glanced at the large vase in the corner and then looked at Qiu Xuan.
He looks frail, but unexpectedly he is quite agile. The only thing is that he walks without making any sound, which can scare people to death.
Princess Feifei realized that she had almost embarrassed herself in front of Qiu Xuan. She cleared her throat and said seriously, "According to the rules, shouldn't you bow to me first?"
Qiu Xuan bowed magnanimously, "Your Highness, you turned the tide on the battlefield, defending your country and your family. This is truly admirable."
"Hehe, that's a pleasant thing to say," Princess Feifei raised her head, "I will spare you from kneeling."
"But..." Qiu Xuan found a stool and sat down. "Although the princess is the eldest prince's daughter, she has no fiefdom or salary. Without a fiefdom, the title of 'princess' is just an empty title."
Qiu Xuan's thrust hit the nerves of Princess Feifei, who gritted her teeth and said, "If I lead the troops one more time, this title will be 'real.'"
"I am not talented, but I was highly regarded by the Grand Master of Rites and entered the Imperial College, where I studied with the princess. Later, I was transferred to the princess's residence as a servant, with a rank of 300 dan, a position of high rank and rank." Qiu Xuan explained with a smile, "However, the princess is pregnant and has difficulty moving around, so there's no need to be so bound by these formalities."
"Sharp-tongued." Princess Feifei rolled her eyes and retorted, "That was before you got married. Now you're just a dependent."
"The princess hit the nail on the head." Qiu Xuan nodded. "I'm sure the princess also understands in her heart that my today is the princess' tomorrow."
"Nonsense," Princess Feifei retorted coldly, subconsciously shielding her abdomen with her hands. The chain on her hand struck the bedpost with a dull thud, freezing the air in the room.
After a while, Princess Feifei pounded the bed hard and spat out a few words through her teeth: "I can't just sit there and wait for death." Then she glared at Qiu Xuan and said: "You have to help me."
Qiu Xuan almost laughed out loud, thinking that this princess had the right to order people around.
"What does the princess need me to do?"
"Tell the princess that Jing Bei'an is fake."
"That's all?"
"I can't tell you everything. After all, we are not familiar with each other." Princess Feifei said righteously.
Qiu Xuan lowered her eyes: "Am I not even worthy of knowing whether my real husband is alive or dead?"
"That's not what I meant." Princess Feifei said quickly, "Jing Beian... he actually died a long time ago. This one, this one, let him take up the name Jing Beian in order to stabilize the morale of the army."
"Is there no one in the barracks questioning his identity?"
"There's Jiang Jue... No," Princess Feifei covered her mouth and lowered her hand, "At least someone can prove his identity."
Jiang Jue, the fourth prince.
The Fourth Prince acted as matchmaker, the Fourth Prince acted as guarantor, the Fourth Prince...
Qiu Xuan looked at Princess Feifei calmly. Jiang Jue, Jiang Jue, calling her so intimately...
"Does the Fourth Prince know?"
"He doesn't know..." Princess Feifei's eyes turned red, "That imposter definitely didn't tell him."
She looked at Qiu Xuan pitifully: "You heard everything last night."
I didn't hear anything, I was just asking.
Qiu Xuan hid her hands in her sleeves and pinched the flesh on her palms tightly, trying to calm herself down.
On the other hand, Princess Feifei breathed a sigh of relief after revealing the secret: "Now that you know everything, you can rest assured."
I don't feel at ease at all. My heart is in my throat.
"If you help me leave the Marquis' Mansion, Jiang Jue will definitely thank you. Then whether you want a promotion or treasures will not be a problem."
"Let's get down to business first. I have something I don't understand." Qiu Xuan frowned, "Why didn't Jing Beian tell the Fourth Prince about this?"
"You're so stupid! Of course he betrayed Jiang Jue!" Princess Feifei was so disappointed. "He lied to me and said Jiang Jue asked me to stay in the Marquis' Mansion first, saying that the capital was dangerous. Humph, and he said it was for my safety. He must have been lying. He must have hidden me so that Jiang Jue couldn't find me."
"The imperial edict." Qiu Xuan said softly.
"What imperial edict?" Princess Feifei blinked. "What are you talking about?"
The imperial edict couldn't be faked. The Fourth Prince probably knew about this, and perhaps the Princess as well. Qiu Xuan could guess the reason, but she had no proof.
"What I mean is, if I help the princess leave the palace, please ask the princess to ask for an imperial decree for a divorce."
"That's not difficult. Anyway, as long as you expose this faker, your marriage will be invalidated."
There was a sound of a clapper outside, it was already past midnight.
"I should leave now. I can't stay here much longer." Qiu Xuan stood up. After a moment's thought, she warned Princess Feifei, "Don't tell anyone else about your affairs."
Princess Feifei frowned: "How can you say the same thing as the fake? I'm pregnant with the Fourth Prince's child. Who dares to touch me?"
"As long as this child is not born, no one can prove that it is your highness's bloodline."
Seeing Princess Feifei's face pale with fear from his words, Qiu Xuan quickly comforted her, "This is the worst-case scenario. Please rest assured, Princess."
"Qiu Xuan," Princess Feifei asked cautiously, "Will my child really be safe?"
How can I say this for sure?
But Princess Feifei's concerns made Qiu Xuan hesitate. To make a pregnant woman feel anxious all day long was too cruel.
"Don't worry." Qiu Xuan said softly.
"Although the old lady is arbitrary, tyrannical, cruel, stubborn, and vindictive, she probably wouldn't be so sinister as to kill you twice."
"...Let's just assume what you said is true." Princess Feifei said nervously, "What about that impostor? What's his plan?"
*
Yes, what exactly is the plan of pretending to be Jing Bei'an?
Sensing someone was peeping at him, Jing Beian immediately turned around, but only saw the shaking car curtain.
Qiu Xuan sat up straight. She hadn't been out for a long time, and the swaying carriage made her dizzy. She wanted to see the scenery outside, but when she lifted the curtain, she could only see Jing Beian and his ferocious guards.
"What is the origin?"
"What are you thinking about, Madam?" Jing Beian lifted the curtain and got into the car.
