Chapter 147 Wanting to Return to Fenglin Temple

Su Xuerong waited in her room until evening before she heard Granny Cheng's voice outside.

"By order of His Highness, this old servant has come to escort Her Highness to Funing Palace," said Granny Cheng.

Consort He was slightly surprised and said to Su Xuerong, "Tell Ayuan to take care of his health and not to overwork himself."

"Thank you for your help these past few days, Your Highness." Su Xuerong curtsied to Consort He.

Consort He hurriedly stopped her: "Go quickly!"

Su Xuerong boarded a small sedan chair and, led by Granny Cheng, headed towards Funing Palace.

Along the way, she saw many solemn-looking palace servants wiping something on the ground, and a bloody smell permeated the entire palace.

With a heavy heart, Su Xuerong lowered the sedan curtain.

Regardless of whether Xiao Yuan was merciful or not, this palace coup was bound to involve bloodshed.

Upon arriving at Funing Palace, Su Xuerong followed Granny Cheng toward the inner hall.

This was the first time in her two lifetimes that she had stepped into the palace where the current emperor resided.

The hall was warmed by an underfloor heating system, and thick curtains kept out the cold, bloody atmosphere outside.

The palace servants and eunuchs in the inner palace all stood neatly to the side, waiting for Cheng Mama's instructions, and walked towards a newly prepared bedroom for Su Xuerong.

Xiuchun and the other three had already put away some of Su Xuerong's personal belongings. After she changed her clothes, palace servants immediately brought over hot food.

Granny Cheng said, "His Highness is still discussing important matters in the Imperial Study. Please allow this old servant to serve Her Highness her meal first."

Su Xuerong frowned slightly as she looked at the steaming hot mutton casserole and some of her favorite foods: "Is he eating in the Imperial Study?"

Granny Cheng said, "If there are many things to do, His Highness will probably dine with Mr. Ling and the others."

Su Xuerong was slightly taken aback: "Alright then."

Xiuchun immediately served her soup and vegetables.

The mutton stew in the casserole was very tender, but Su Xuerong only drank half a bowl of mutton soup and ate a small bowl of rice before she was full.

She was still very worried about Xiao Yuan.

Although Feng Bao had come over earlier to recount what happened at the morning court session, she was still somewhat uneasy.

The Xu family is not to be trifled with; they should know that today's events were likely orchestrated by Xiao Yuan.

They will not give up easily.

Although Su Xuerong had guessed that Xiao Yuan had already made arrangements in secret, she still couldn't help but worry about him.

After all, the two were now husband and wife, sharing both glory and loss.

If anything happens to Xiao Yuan during this critical period, neither she nor Consort He will escape punishment.

Just as I was feeling a bit melancholy, I suddenly heard someone come in and report something.

"Your Majesty, Fourth Miss Fang requests an audience."

Su Xuerong was stunned.

By the way, Fang Ningzhu.

She must have been captured by Xiao Shiyan in her place.

Su Xuerong nodded to Xiu Chun.

A moment later, Fang Ningzhu timidly walked in, and upon seeing Su Xuerong, she immediately knelt down respectfully before her: "This humble woman greets Your Majesty!"

"Get up!" Su Xuerong said calmly. "Sit down and let's talk."

Fang Ningzhu breathed a slight sigh of relief when she saw that her attitude was calm.

"Tell me, what do you want?"

Su Xuerong also roughly knew that Fang Ningzhu played a key role in today's coup.

Xiao Yuan had mentioned it before, but hadn't gone into details.

But she guessed a few things from the few words Feng Bao had said this morning.

Xiao Shiyan's sudden outburst in the hall must be related to her.

Fang Ningzhu hesitated for a moment before saying, "Your Majesty, I know that I cannot stay in the harem with my current status, so I would like to ask Your Majesty to allow me to go to Fenglin Temple in Hangzhou to practice Buddhism while still keeping my hair."

Su Xuerong was slightly surprised: "Why are you doing this?"

Once she went to Fenglin Temple, she would probably never be able to remarry.

Fang Ningzhu gave a bitter smile: "I served the late emperor. Even if I return to the Fang family, my father will arrange for me to marry someone else, but it will definitely not be a good man. Rather than that, I would rather choose to live alone for the rest of my life."

Su Xuerong's throat felt a little congested, and after a long while she said, "Don't worry, you have made a great contribution to the Prince this time. Even if you go to Fenglin Temple to cultivate, we will not treat you unfairly."

It wouldn't be unreasonable to bestow an imperial title upon her.

Fang Ningzhu finally felt relieved and stood up to bow respectfully to her: "Thank you, Your Majesty!"

Just as she was about to leave, Su Xuerong suddenly called out to her, "You... never mind, you can go."

Fang Ningzhu nodded to her, then turned and left.

It wasn't until 9 PM that Su Xuerong heard footsteps coming from the corridor outside.

The curtain was lifted, and a blast of cold air rushed in as Xiao Yuan strode in.

Su Xuerong went to greet him and was about to take off his black cloak when she saw him wave to her and go to the incense burner to warm himself for a while before letting her approach.

Su Xuerong reached out and took his hand, only to find that his hand was still a little cold.

"Don't they have any underground heating in the Imperial Study?" she couldn't help but ask.

Xiao Yuan raised an eyebrow: "Yes, I did. I walked here, I didn't take a sedan chair."

Therefore, the body was covered in cold air.

He reached out and took Su Xuerong's small hands in his palms, looking down at her: "What's wrong?"

As soon as he came in, he noticed that she seemed a little down.

She's about to become empress, so why isn't she happy?

Su Xuerong reached out and hugged his waist, leaning against his chest and whispering, "I was just worried about you..."

The combined imperial ambitions of Xiao Shiyan and his son had lasted less than six months, and the dangers they faced during that time were unimaginable.

Xiao Yuan's heart softened, and he rubbed his chin against the top of her head: "Don't worry, I've arranged everything."

After burying her head in his chest for a while, Su Xuerong looked up at him and asked, "How do you plan to deal with the Xu family?"
