Chapter 8 The Scholar on the Boat

When the man saw Su Xuerong, his clear eyes widened slightly in surprise, but he quickly lowered them and asked, "Sir, where is the water?"

Su Xuerong pointed to the side: "Please put it there!"

The man carried the hot water aside, turned and left, never glancing at Su Xuerong again.

The Dragon Boat Festival has just passed, and the weather is getting hotter and hotter.

After washing up, Su Xuerong changed into a light and soft Murong gauze dress, wearing a red strapless top and a peach-colored short-sleeved cardigan with a front opening, and a light yellow swirling skirt for easy walking.

After a while, she heard a noise coming from the side room, so she went to check on Yuan Jie'er.

Sure enough, he peed and cried again.

Su Xuerong patiently changed her diaper, fed her a full bottle of milk, and then carried her out of the side room.

Zhou Shi and Su Jingxuan also got up, looking somewhat haggard; none of them had slept well last night.

Su Xuerong opened the door again and asked the waiter to buy some breakfast.

Zhou immediately said, "From now on, let your father handle these matters. You should stay out in public as much as possible."

Her daughter's appearance was too striking, and she worried that they might encounter malicious people along the way, and that she and her husband wouldn't be able to protect her.

Su Jingxuan glanced at his daughter, who was dressed in a stunning summer outfit, and nodded: "Listen to your mother. Let's find your older brother in Yangzhou first."

Su Xuerong, however, couldn't contain herself.

The weather is getting hotter and hotter in such a small cabin. You can sweat even if you sit still. Can't you go to the deck to get some fresh air?

Zhou seemed to have read her thoughts: "If it's really hot, you can wear a veil and go out for some fresh air later."

Su Xuerong had no choice but to agree; it was better than staying in the cabin all the time.

Even Yuan-jie can't stand it.

A moment later, there was another gentle knock on the cabin door, and Su Jingxuan went to open it.

When the man outside saw Su Jingxuan, he paused for a moment and said softly, "Sir, this is your breakfast."

Su Xuerong, sitting on the opposite side, heard the man's voice from earlier and couldn't help but become curious.

Judging from his attire, he was clearly not a waiter on the ship, but more like a down-on-his-luck scholar.

Su Jingxuan took the breakfast, closed the door, and frowned, saying, "This person was here just now?"

Su Xuerong remained silent.

Zhou said, "Don't ask anymore, let's eat first."

I was so busy leaving yesterday that I didn't even have time for dinner, and I'm starving now.

The breakfast delivered from the ship consisted of some meat and vegetable fillings, a few steamed buns, and three bowls of fish and meat noodles.

The meat and vegetable fillings were ice cold, the steamed cakes were rock hard, and the three bowls of fish and meat noodle soup were even more fishy.

The three of them ate a few bites and then lost their appetite.

Su Xuerong suddenly remembered the cook who had been talking outside earlier. She wondered if she could pay extra to have her cook for her family.

"You can't be so unreasonable! I promised you I'd pay the fare once we reached Yangzhou. How can you make me disembark now? We're still in the middle of the river!"

Suddenly, an angry voice came from the deck not far away.

Su Xuerong frowned slightly. Judging from the voice, it sounded like the scholar who had just brought them water and food to their cabin.
