Chapter 1 I Want a Divorce

"Madam, tomorrow is His Highness's coronation ceremony. You should get some rest!" Xiuchun said softly.

Su Xuerong withdrew her lonely gaze from the window and remained silent.

When the Crown Prince ascended the throne, she, as his concubine, was ordered not to attend the ceremony, and was not even allowed to see her son.

Ever since Chu'er was born, the Crown Princess sent someone to take him away and raise him under her name, so she, his biological mother, couldn't even see her son.

Chu'er is ten years old, but Su Xuerong only saw him briefly on the day he was born. She was not allowed to see him at other times, because she was told that her lowly birth mother would embarrass the future crown prince.

The son was born, but it was as if he hadn't been born at all.

The daughter was raised, but was sent to the north for a political marriage when she was just fifteen years old. She died in a foreign land a year later, and was never seen again.

This woman, who was seen as a social climber in the eyes of others, lived a more miserable life than an ordinary woman from the marketplace.

Su Xuerong looked at the full moon hanging in the sky, her heart filled with despair.

Since the Crown Prince is to ascend the throne tomorrow, she wondered if she should take advantage of his joy at becoming the new emperor to ask him to let her return to her hometown.

Su Xuerong grieved inwardly for a while, then lay down on the couch.

She didn't know how long she had slept, but suddenly she felt a burning sensation envelop her entire body. When she opened her eyes, the whole room was engulfed in flames...

In her final moments, Su Xuerong shed tears of regret amidst the raging flames.

If she had known this day would come, she shouldn't have believed the matchmaker's lies and married Xiao Shiyan...

"Wow--"

A baby's cry jolted Su Xuerong awake.

She looked at the crying child in her arms, utterly astonished: "Yuan'er?"

Who else could it be but my daughter, Yuan'er, who is crying so loudly?

Looking at the furnishings in the room, a sense of familiarity washed over me.

Beneath her lay a marble bed with a faded, dark red lacquer finish, a partition carved with a meander pattern, a bamboo cabinet not far away, and two silver-inlaid armchairs…

Everything she saw was part of her dowry, which her family had prepared with all their resources when she got married.

Su Xuerong was incredulous and pinched her thigh hard, immediately bursting into tears from the pain.

Immediately afterward, a woman rushed in from outside the door and picked up the little girl: "Oh my goodness, Yuan'er has fallen on you, and you're still not awake!"

Su Xuerong stared blankly at the woman's familiar face for a long time before finally saying, "Mother..."

She hadn't seen her mother for ten whole years, and seeing her now felt like a dream.

"Are you still half asleep?" Zhou glared at her, annoyed, and hurriedly put Yuan'er aside to change her diaper, saying as she did so, "Are you still half asleep? Today is the day your husband is coming back, instead of getting up and getting ready, you're still daydreaming here..."

Before she could finish speaking, Zhou was stunned.

A pair of snow-white, jade-like arms suddenly appeared around her waist, hugging her from behind and sobbing softly, "Mother! You're still here, that's so good..."

Su Xuerong cried uncontrollably.

When she learned that Xiao Shiyan was the crown prince, she didn't even have time to say goodbye to her family before rushing to the capital with him.

Xiao Shiyan also agreed that after settling things in the capital, he would send someone to bring the Su family to the capital and arrange positions for her father and brothers in the court.

But what awaited them was devastating news.

When the Su family arrived in the capital, they were unexpectedly attacked by remnants of the rebel party. Upon learning that the Su family were relatives of the Crown Prince, the rebels ruthlessly slaughtered the entire family of five...

Su Xuerong hugged Zhou Shi tightly and cried incessantly. She was afraid that this was just a dream, and that her mother would leave her again when she woke up.

"Smack!"

Su Xuerong felt a heavy blow to the back of her hand and immediately let go.

The pain reminded her once again that this was not a dream.

That must mean... she was reborn!

She was reborn in the year before Xiao Shiyan brought her back to the capital.

Zhou finally finished changing Yuan'er's diaper, and glared at her dazed daughter with a look of disgust: "What, do you want to go to see your husband wearing the dress that Yuan'er pooped in?"

Su Xuerong in front of me had just woken up from her afternoon nap. Her face was so pink and tender that it looked like it was about to drip water. Her eyes were as clear and bright as obsidian, and the red mole at the corner of her eye was incredibly charming. Even when she cried, she had a unique kind of allure.

Zhou couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

Her daughter was so beautiful that her future husband took a liking to her and forced her to marry him not long after she came of age.

Su Xuerong came to her senses.

Oh, right, it was today that Xiao Shiyan returned with his true identity, and a few days later he took her and Yuan'er on their journey to the capital.

Thinking about this, Su Xuerong felt extremely annoyed.

Since she was reborn, why didn't God let her be reborn two years earlier?

If she could go back to the time before she was married, she would never have been so foolish as to marry this heartless and ungrateful man!

Two years ago, a matchmaker came to her door, saying that her nephew, who lived in Beijing, had returned to Suzhou and had taken a liking to her, and wanted to marry her with a large sum of money as a betrothal gift.

Although the Su family was a small and humble family, they were unwilling for their daughter to marry far away to the capital, where she was unfamiliar with the place. It was only after the members of the family exerted pressure on the Su family, and promised that they would not return to the capital for the next few years after the marriage, that they reluctantly allowed their daughter to marry into the capital.

Unexpectedly, this "nephew" outside the group turned out to be Xiao Shiyan, the son of the Prince of Ruyang who had led troops in the Rebellion of the Five Princes.

Xiao Shiyan, under the identity of Zhou Anming, lived as husband and wife with Su Xuerong in Suzhou for two years.

"Eee-yah-yah!" Yuan-jie suddenly reached out and called out to Su Xue-rong, interrupting her thoughts.

At this moment, Yuan Jie'er was wearing a light green jacket and was being changed by Zhou Shi. She was waving her hands toward Su Xue Rong and crying incessantly.
