Late August.
A heavy rain had just fallen, but it couldn't wash away the heat; instead, it made people feel even more sticky.
The sky after the rain was cloudless, clear and blue, with sunlight reflecting off the dense foliage and painting shimmering spots of light on the ground.
In a coffee shop on a street corner, Lin Yue sat by the window, idly scrolling through her phone, occasionally glancing out the window and yawning. Her coffee had already been refilled twice.
She had lost count of how many times Ms. Li had forced her to go on blind dates. She was only 20 years old and a junior in college, a time when she should be full of youthful energy and love to have fun. But her mother had been urging her to go on blind dates every day since she turned 18. In the past two years, she had been on more than a hundred blind dates.
If it weren't for the fact that she looked so much like her, Lin Yue would have started to doubt whether she was her biological daughter.
Every time I resisted or refused, she would say, "Good men aren't readily available on the market. If you don't act now and wait until you're 30, you'll be leftovers in the trash!"
Such outrageous remarks made Lin Yue a little worried that she might have been provoked by Lin Qingguo.
Because of her own unhappy marriage, she hoped that her daughter could find a good family and not end up like her, but unfortunately, she used the wrong methods.
"Hello, welcome."
Lin Yue turned to look at the doorway and saw a tall, handsome man walk in. He exuded an air of refinement, yet his brows held a hint of allure. His fox-like eyes were slightly upturned, captivating and mesmerizing, making Lin Yue take a second look.
The man stood at the door, his eyes slightly narrowed, scanning the coffee shop. He accidentally met Lin Yue's intense gaze. He smiled slightly and finally chose to sit down in the seat behind Lin Yue, so that they were back to back.
The waitress immediately walked towards the handsome man with a shy expression, "Hello sir, what would you like to order?"
"A glass of Blue Mountain coffee, thank you." His voice was deep and full, like a warm current reaching straight to the heart.
Lin Yue couldn't help but sigh inwardly, "Not only is he good-looking, but his voice is also so beautiful!"
Such an incredibly handsome guy is truly rare; I've never seen one like him on campus so far. No way! I have to share this with my roommates, those "perverts," so they can feast their eyes.
She immediately took out her phone and held it up, pretending to take a selfie. The angle was perfect for capturing the person's profile. After taking the picture, she immediately sent it to her roommates' group chat.
Before long, the WeChat message notification sound kept ringing, and the "perverts" on the other end were going crazy for it.
"Hello, are you Lin Yue?"
A man in a black uniform, carrying a navy blue briefcase, was standing in front of her, smiling at her.
Lin Yue, who was having a great chat with her roommate, was suddenly interrupted. "Oh? Oh yes, I'm Lin Yue. You were introduced by Aunt Chen, right?"
After recognizing the person, she should have stood up to answer their questions out of politeness, but her purpose for coming to the blind date today was the same as before: to ruin it.
So she simply crossed her legs, leaned back, and acted as swagger as possible, just to make the other person look down on her.
The man pulled out a chair and sat opposite Lin Yue, asking the waiter for a free glass of cold water.
"Hello, my name is Su Rui, I'm 30 years old, and I work at the drug administration bureau. What about you?"
"Didn't Aunt Chen tell you about my actual situation?" Lin Yue picked up her coffee and took a sip.
Su Rui shook her head.
"Okay, let me briefly introduce myself. My name is Lin Yue, Lin as in double wood and Yue as in joy. I just turned 20 this June and will be a junior in college soon after summer vacation."
After Lin Yue finished introducing herself, she noticed that the other person's face grew increasingly dark. What a coincidence! This was exactly what she wanted.
Su Rui hesitated for a moment, then said with an embarrassed expression, "Aunt Chen didn't tell me about your situation. I thought you were only a few years older than me, but I didn't expect you to still be a student. With this age difference, I could totally be your uncle. Dating and marriage... let's forget about it."
After hearing what he said, Lin Yue immediately stood up, looked at him gratefully with eyes full of piety, and shook hands with Su Rui.
"Thank you, thank you, Uncle. That's what I thought too."
She was almost moved to tears. Of all the blind dates she'd been on, he was the first to say she was too young and not suitable. The others had become even more excited after finding out her age.
The word "uncle" made Su Rui's face darken even more. He angrily pulled his arm back, picked up his briefcase, and turned to leave.
"Yay! I chased another one away, breaking the record again!" Lin Yue exclaimed joyfully, celebrating her victory.
Just then, a deep and powerful laugh reached Lin Yue's ears. She turned around abruptly and saw the handsome man looking at her.
"why are you laughing?"
"I'm laughing at how cute you are," the man replied with a smile.
His smile was like a spring breeze caressing Lin Yue's heart, leaving her speechless. She forgot everything she wanted to say and just stared at him for a long time, her heart pounding like a thousand deer. She kept exclaiming, "My God, what an absolute stunner! He's as handsome as a celestial being descended from the heavens! It's just too much!"
Her infatuated gaze was undisguised, arousing the man's curiosity. "Are you in such a hurry to find a boyfriend? You're only 20 and you're already going on blind dates."
Lin Yue was suddenly startled by his words and realized her lapse in composure. She quickly looked away, her cheeks slightly flushed. "No, no, it's my mom who keeps urging me to go on blind dates. If I don't come, she'll cut off my allowance!" As she spoke, she unconsciously pouted her bright red lips, her face full of helplessness and grievance.
