Chapter 124 Farewell to Unrequited Love

In the sweltering heat of summer, the sky was a deep, cloudless blue, and the air felt heated and stifling.

In the Human Resources Department, Ruan Fangfang walked up to Jiang Li in ten-centimeter high heels and knocked on the desk. "The boss wants you to go to her office."

"Me?" Jiang Li pointed to herself. "Now?"

"Yes, now!"

"oh."

Arriving at the top-floor CEO's office, Jiang Li nervously knocked on the door, "Knock, knock, knock..."

"Come in."

She pushed open the door and went in, only to see Song Yunxi looking at her with a smile, which made her feel uneasy.

"Boss, what can I do for you?"

"Come sit down." Song Yunxi patted the empty sofa next to her.

Jiang Li nodded, carefully walked over and sat down, sitting very upright and reservedly.

"Are you adjusting well to your job?" Song Yunxi asked with a smile.

"It's great, everyone is very considerate of me."

Jiang Li muttered to herself, "Boss, just say what you want to say. I'm scared by your sudden concern."

"That's good..." As she spoke, Song Yunxi took out a document, which was the real reason she had come to see her today.

"Here is something I think is best given to him by you."

"What?" Jiang Li took the document with a puzzled look.

Upon opening it, I found it was a statement from some manufacturers withdrawing their lawsuits against Mo Yanhuan.

"Is the boss going to let him off the hook?"

Song Yunxi's lips curled into a slight smile, and she gently shook her head, saying slowly, "Withdrawing the lawsuit does not mean forgiveness for him. The right to sue remains firmly in our hands. Jiang Li, I hope you understand that some people simply do not deserve your affection."

Jiang Li nodded, "Okay, I will hand the things over to him."

She knew in her heart that the boss was doing this simply because he hoped she could clarify things with Mo Yanhuan, even though they had never had any connection and even though it had all been wishful thinking on her part.

Under the scorching sun and rolling heatwaves, the once magnificent Mo family villa now resembled an abandoned fortress, appearing exceptionally desolate. The room was filled with a strong smell of tobacco, like a thick layer of smog. A haggard figure huddled in a dark corner, his hair disheveled.

Just then, the door was gently pushed open, and Jiang Li walked in carrying a bag of fruit. When she turned on the light and saw the scene before her, she was so shocked that she couldn't close her mouth.

The person who was strategizing in the business world not long ago has now become this disheveled.

Hearing the noise, Mo Yanhuan turned around, glanced at the sound, and stubbed out the cigarette in her hand.

"What brings you here? Did you come to laugh at me?"

His voice became extremely hoarse due to prolonged and excessive smoking.

Jiang Li shook her head. "I'm here to bring you something."

She took out a document from her bag and handed it to Mo Yanhuan. "The manufacturer has withdrawn the lawsuit, but still retains the right to sue."

The lawsuit was withdrawn? Mo Yanhuan was stunned for a moment, then gave a self-deprecating smile.

Is Song Yunzheng trying to tell him that he can make him fall from the mountaintop to the abyss with a wave of his sleeve, and also give him a sliver of hope? Is crushing him as easy as crushing an ant?

Mo Yanhuan finally understood what Song Yunzheng meant by "take it slow".

Although he was spared imprisonment, Song Yunzheng imprisoned him in an invisible cage. Prolonged suppression can wear down a person's fighting spirit and lead to a state of utter despair.

He can't go anywhere; he's trapped in this city forever by Song Yunzheng.

Mo Yanhuan lit another cigarette, took a deep drag and exhaled. The huge house was completely silent. All the servants had been dismissed, and his parents were utterly disappointed in him.

This house will be auctioned off soon.

He lowered his head and remained silent.

“I came here because there’s something else I want to ask you.” Jiang Li stared intently at him. “That night, did you…”

"No, I didn't touch you." He flicked his cigarette ash and exhaled deeply.

Jiang Li breathed a sigh of relief, but her eyes were a little red. "I knew you wouldn't be completely without conscience."

Mo Yanhuan forced a stiff smile, "Jiang Li, if only I had fallen in love with you, if only I had never been to that bar..."

If love offered choices, there wouldn't be so many tragedies in the world. Unfortunately, there are no "ifs."

Jiang Li shook her head. "It's not your fault that you fell in love with Lin Yue. Your mistake was that you became possessive of her, which led to your evil thoughts. You should be glad that Song Yunzheng didn't send you to prison. I hope you can cherish this opportunity, repent, and cheer up."

Looking at her messy home, Mo Yanhuan gave a self-deprecating laugh. "How can I pull myself together? I not only have nothing, but I'm also heavily in debt. Oh well, that's it."

Jiang Li didn't say anything more, put down her things, and turned to leave.

Her purpose in coming here today was to say goodbye to this unrequited love. Although she condemned what Mo Yanhuan had done, she also felt sorry for him, as his promising life had been ruined by his own wishful thinking.

When Jiang Li learned that the person he liked was Lin Yue, her first reaction was, "Luckily, I wasn't too deeply involved and managed to cut my losses in time. There are plenty of men out there."

If you fall for someone who doesn't like you back, it's better to bury that feeling deep in your heart and occasionally reminisce about it; that might not be such a bad thing.

After leaving the Mo family home, she wandered aimlessly through the streets, her mind replaying the events of the past few days. She was filled with mixed emotions, realizing that life was truly a giant makeshift stage where dramatic events often occurred.

Perhaps she was too engrossed in her thoughts, so she didn't notice the red light coming on. Suddenly, a piercing screech of brakes cut through the air like a sharp sword.

"Ouch..." Jiang Li sat down on the ground with a thud, followed by a cry of pain.

"Excuse me, are you alright?" A man quickly got out of the car and rushed to her side.

"Do you even know how to drive...?"

Before she could finish speaking, Jiang Li was speechless upon seeing who it was, and the words she wanted to say were swallowed back.

Isn't this Lu Zhiheng, President Lu? What a small world!

Are you hurt? I'll take you to the hospital for a check-up.

As Lu Zhiheng spoke, he bent down to help her.

"Ah? No, no, no, it's nothing, just a scrape." Jiang Li dodged his outstretched hand and quickly stood up, brushing the dirt off her clothes.

Lu Zhiheng noticed her injured hand and frowned. "Your hand is injured. You need to disinfect it promptly, otherwise it's easy to get an infection. I'll take you to the hospital to get it treated."

Jiang Li waved her hand repeatedly, "No need, I can just disinfect it with iodine when I get home, no need to go through all that trouble."

"Sorry, this is the second time I've bumped into you."

"Hehe..." Jiang Li chuckled dryly, "President Lu, you still remember me."

"Yes, I also know your name is Jiang Li, right?" Lu Zhiheng slightly curled the corners of his lips.

"Hehe...Mr. Lu has a good memory. If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

The man in front of her seemed approachable, but he exuded a sense of oppression, just like her high school homeroom teacher. She didn't like him.

Just as she was about to turn and run away, Lu Zhiheng grabbed her wrist. "Wait..."

...
