On the wide expressway, the ambulance sped along like a wild horse, its tires screeching against the road surface, its flashing lights and blaring sirens conveying a sense of urgency and helplessness.
Song Yunzheng brought Lin Yue to the hospital as quickly as possible. The ambulance arrived with sirens blaring, and the medical staff quickly unloaded the stretcher. The pregnant woman's face was contorted in pain, and large patches of her clothes were stained with blood, a shocking sight that vividly showed life slipping away...
After leading Lin Yue to his office, he briefly instructed her with four words: "Wait for me here."
After saying that, he quickly ran out of the office to participate in the rescue.
After completing the cleaning and disinfection procedures, he quickly changed into his surgical gown, his eyes firm and calm.
Inside the operating room, the atmosphere was so tense it was almost frozen. Song Yunzheng was completely focused, fine beads of sweat gradually appearing on his forehead, but his hands moved with perfect precision.
Every incision, every stitch, is a battle against death.
Just then, a commotion broke out outside.
The patient's family members were emotionally distraught, blocking the entrance and shouting that they absolutely had to save the child—it was their Chen family's grandson…
The nurses reassured the family while explaining, "The doctors are doing everything they can to save him, please keep quiet!"
After several long hours of waiting, the operating lights finally went out.
Song Yunzheng walked wearily out of the operating room. Before he could even take off his mask, his family rushed over, asking one question after another, the most frequent one being, "Doctor, is my grandson alright?"
Indifferent to the new mother and only concerned about their "grandson," such inhumane family members were not even worth a kind look from Song Yunzheng.
He swept his cold gaze across the noisy group of people in front of him and asked in a deep voice, "Who is the patient's husband?"
A hand quickly rose in the crowd, "I, I'm the patient's husband!" he said, pushing forward impatiently.
"Doctor, is the baby alright? We've been waiting for this baby for so long!"
The man's eyes were filled with anxiety, his hands clasped together as if praying to the gods for the child's safety, but he never once asked whether the mother was alright...
"Doctor, is it a boy?" the man's mother suddenly interjected.
The sound of his breathing under the mask was somewhat heavy. Song Yunzheng turned to Fu Yang beside him and said, "Explain the situation clearly to the family."
After saying that, he turned and left resolutely, as if staying even a second longer would pollute him with the ruthless "cold-blooded animal".
"Mother and daughter are safe. The mother suffered a severe impact that caused placental abruption, and the baby is experiencing mild oxygen deprivation and is premature. She has been rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit."
"A girl?" The man's mother seemed to only hear the word "gender," looking incredulous. "No, no, no, the fortune teller said this baby is a grandson. You must have made a mistake."
Fu Yang suppressed his dissatisfaction and tried his best to maintain the composure that a medical worker should have. "There's no mistake. There's only one pregnant woman in the operating room. Family members, please remember to go to the lobby on the first floor to pay the fees."
A moment later, the silence erupted like a burst dam. The old woman's wails, the stomping of her feet, and the harsh, grating insults echoed for a long time in the corridor in front of the operating room...
The clock has quietly struck midnight.
Song Yunzheng pushed open the office door and immediately saw Lin Yue asleep on the desk. Her small body was curled up in a ball, making his chair seem twice as big as usual.
He walked slowly to her side, smoothed her slightly messy hair, and because the heating was too strong, her face was flushed. Her long and thick eyelashes, like two feather fans, cast faint shadows on the contours of her eyes.
Seeing her lying there sleeping like a kitten, I felt a pang of sympathy.
"Yueyue, let's go home." A gentle, tender voice rang in her ears.
Lin Yue groggily opened her eyes and saw his exhausted face. She immediately smiled and asked, "Honey, are you done with work?"
Song Yunzheng nodded, his warm fingertips gently stroking her cheek again and again.
Lin Yue stretched and stood up, letting out a comfortable sigh. She then opened her arms and hugged him, saying, "Thank you for your hard work, Dr. Song."
Song Yunzheng's lips curved slightly, and his heart warmed. The lingering unease that had been weighing on his mind since leaving the operating room vanished instantly in her embrace.
He gently stroked her long hair. "You've worked hard too, Mrs. Song, staying with me at the hospital at this hour."
The person in his arms suddenly raised their head, their bright, watery eyes staring straight at him, their red lips slightly parted as if they had something to say.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
Why did you study medicine? And why did you choose obstetrics and gynecology?
If he had wanted to, his career would have been bright and he would have risen through the ranks, but he chose to become a doctor.
"Because I like it..." he replied with a smile.
"Is it just because you like it?"
Song Yunzheng looked at her seriously. "Yes, it's just because I like her."
This identity gives him maximum freedom; it's a disguise for him, a facade to deceive others.
Of course, it is also because of his passion that he strives to do this to the extreme, which is why so many patients come to him by reputation.
"I will try my best to get closer to you, and strive to shine in some industry in the future," Lin Yue whispered her expectations.
Song Yunzheng looked down at the little head in his arms, his face full of relief. His little wife had always been an outstanding person, and he knew she would only get better and better.
"You don't need to live in the eyes of others. You are a shining star. I hope you just do what you like and move forward boldly. I'll support you."
Every word was tender and gentle, and as the ticking of the clock reached her ears, Lin Yue felt her heart burning. For some reason, her eyes also stung a little, perhaps because she was relieved that she had someone to rely on.
