"roll!"
The voice was icy cold, as if the throat contained a block of ice that had stood for millennia. The chilling and murderous aura frightened the sleazy man lying on the ground so much that he scrambled away.
Lin Yue's heart skipped a beat, and she looked up abruptly. Standing before her was a tall, slender man in black, wearing a black baseball cap and a black mask, exuding a mysterious and dangerous aura.
She heard the word "get lost" very clearly; the tone and pitch were exactly like Song Yunzheng's.
She couldn't help but take a step forward, tilting her head like a curious kitten to examine it.
The man in black didn't give her a chance and turned to leave, but Lin Yue grabbed him, shouting, "Don't go!"
The man's body stiffened slightly. He wanted to leave, but his legs felt like they were filled with lead, and he couldn't take even a small step. He didn't dare to exert any force with his hands, and just let her pull him along.
Lin Yue stepped forward and stood in front of him, craning her neck and trying hard to see the eyes under the brim of his hat.
The man hurriedly turned his face away, afraid that she would see him clearly.
Lin Yue stared intently at the man in front of her with her round, dark eyes, wanting to ask but not daring to.
The two remained locked in a stalemate, the silence of which was both frustrating and heartbreaking.
"Thank you for saving me. May I see what you look like?" she asked softly, carefully considering her answer.
The man's hands, hanging by his sides, clenched and unclenched, but he simply shook his head and remained silent.
The next moment, Lin Yue suddenly reached out and tried to remove the man's mask, but unexpectedly, the other party reacted quickly and grabbed her wrist.
The deep ring mark on the man's fair and slender ring finger successfully caught Lin Yue's attention.
She subconsciously loosened her grip on the man's sleeve, and the next second, the force on her wrist suddenly dissipated as the man turned and ran away.
His running away made Lin Yue even more certain of her guess!
She took off after him, shouting as she ran, "Robbery! Robbery!"
Upon hearing this, the man in black staggered, resisting the urge to turn back, and quickened his pace to exit through the back door.
Passersby merely glanced at the spectacle—a beautiful young woman chasing a man in black—and some even took out their phones to take pictures, but no one stepped forward to help.
Seeing that the man in black was about to run out the back door, Lin Yue was extremely anxious. She made up her mind, closed her eyes, and threw herself to the ground.
Ouch!!! That hurts!!
She deliberately screamed loudly and pitifully because she was certain that the person was Song Yunzheng, and she was betting on his soft heart.
Sure enough, the man immediately stopped walking forward, turned around without hesitation, came to her side, and reached out to help her up, his movements extremely gentle and careful.
As he drew so close, the familiar, pleasant scent, the clean and refreshing aroma unique to him, wafted over, and Lin Yue suddenly felt a lump in her throat, tears inexplicably welling up in her eyes.
"You are Song Yunzheng... right?" His voice trembled with excitement.
The man seemed to be struck by an electric current, his whole body trembled, he held his breath, his body muscles tensed up, and the brim of his hat fell even lower.
Taking advantage of his astonishment, Lin Yue swiftly removed his mask before the man could stop her.
As the mask fluttered to the ground, the face she had longed for for over two months suddenly appeared before her eyes. Lin Yue threw herself into the man's arms without a second thought and broke down in tears.
Everyone and everything around her became blurry in an instant, and she couldn't hear any sound. Lin Yue could only feel her heart in her chest beating strongly and powerfully, as if it had been reborn.
Song Yunzheng sighed helplessly, holding the trembling person in his arms tightly with heartache. He raised his hand and gently patted her back, softly comforting her, "Don't cry, don't cry..."
Ever since Zhuang Yucheng showed him the trending news, he had been feeling extremely uneasy, unable to eat or sleep, and the longing he had endured for more than two months erupted like a volcano at that moment.
He endured it again and again, but finally, he couldn't hold back any longer. He disguised himself as this and followed Lin Yue furtively for a few days, maintaining a distance that was neither too close nor too distant, just like her shadow. When she was slow, he was slow; when she was fast, he was fast.
He knew she was quirky and daring, capable of going toe-to-toe with anyone, but he never expected that she would still be so incredibly bold when facing a drunk adult male.
God knows how furious he was when he saw her almost being bullied; he wanted nothing more than to chop that person to pieces.
If he hadn't come out today... he didn't dare think about the consequences.
Song Yunzheng looked down at her, his warm fingertips wiping away the tears from the corners of her eyes, his voice softening, "Let's go home. Don't come to places like this again; it's not safe."
Lin Yue stopped crying, looked up at him, and asked in a choked voice, "Will you come back with me?"
Song Yunzheng stared at her tear-streaked eyelashes, then glanced at the small hands tightly wrapped around his waist, and sighed helplessly, "If I don't go back with you, will you let me leave?"
"No!" Lin Yue refused without hesitation. "Unless you take me with you."
The temperature difference between day and night is still large this season. The night wind blew in through the half-open door, and Lin Yue, who was dressed in thin clothes, couldn't help but shiver.
Song Yunzheng touched her thin, paper-thin back, his brows furrowed deeply. How did she get so thin? She must not have been eating properly.
He then took off his coat and put it on her; the coat still held his body heat, it felt so warm.
The clothes that fit Song Yunzheng perfectly looked very baggy on Lin Yue. The hem reached her thighs and the sleeves were so long that they had to be wrapped around her several times to reveal her hands.
"Does your knee hurt? Can you still walk?" He pretended to lift up her trouser leg to check.
She only felt a slight pain when she pounced on him, but nothing serious happened. However, Lin Yue just wanted to be dramatic for a moment.
"It hurts, it hurts so much! Could I have broken my bones? Ouch, it hurts so much, I can't walk at all..." She looked at him with teary eyes, her big eyes blinking innocently and pitifully.
Hearing her call out like that, Song Yunzheng was certain that she was alright. He subtly curled the corners of his lips, gently lifted her up, and carried her away.
Back in the car, the first thing he did was pull out some disinfectant wipes to clean her hands, which were filthy from fighting and lying on the ground.
Lin Yue's gaze remained fixed on him, not daring to look away for even a second. Although it had only been two months since they last met, it felt like two years had passed.
"Oh right, I need to call Yunxi so she doesn't have to look for me."
"No need, she already knows."
When Lin Yue shouted "robbery," Yun Xi came out and, seeing the two hugging, chuckled for a while like a bystander before turning and leaving.
"Honey, will you go back?" Her voice was barely audible.
Song Yunzheng paused abruptly as he wiped her hands, only pausing for a moment before nodding slightly. "We have to go back."
"I'll stay with you..."
"Let's go home first," he said decisively, cutting her off.
Lin Yue remained silent, turning her head to gaze at the brilliant lights outside the car window, secretly relieved that she had gone out tonight.
