Upon hearing this, Jiang Li looked up and saw Lin Yue's concerned gaze, as if she was seriously considering the question.
Should I really remove it? She subconsciously touched her lower abdomen.
Finally, she gently shook her head, "I don't know..."
Lin Yue took a deep breath, calmed herself for a few seconds, and tried to soften her voice: "I won't talk about anything else for now, but as a girl, you've already suffered a loss in this matter. You absolutely cannot bear all of this alone, while the perpetrator acts like nothing happened. You must let him know that he is your boyfriend and also the father of the child in your belly."
"And another thing, how can you be so sure you won't end up getting married?"
Looking at Lin Yue's concerned gaze, Jiang Li recalled the moments she had spent with Lu Zhiheng over the past six months.
She had never met a man like him before—refined, courteous, and very friendly to his subordinates and employees, and even more so to her, always responsive to her needs.
He knew everything about her, while she could only see a small part of him, like looking at flowers through a fog. Even though he was right in front of her, she felt he was so far away.
She, who has always been confident and outspoken, never caring about differences in social status, and always boldly expressing her feelings for whomever she likes, has begun to reflect on herself and doubt whether she is worthy of him.
Under the influence of progesterone, I can't help but overthink.
Lin Yue gently held her hand. "Never worry about things that haven't happened yet. Cherish the present. I won't give you any advice on whether to keep the baby. I just hope you tell Lu Zhiheng about the pregnancy. He has the right to know. As for the future, you two can talk about it when you get home and close the door."
Jiang Li lowered his head and remained silent for a long time...
Lin Yue rubbed her shoulder. "I know you can't bring yourself to ask, but I can help you."
The gentle tone gradually calmed Jiang Li's panicked heart. "No need, I'll tell him myself, right now."
She pursed her slightly dry red lips, took out her phone, and made a call.
As Lin Yue was about to leave, Jiang Li grabbed her and mouthed, "Don't go."
The call connected, and a deep male voice came through the receiver.
"Jiang Li, you took the day off today?"
"Um."
"What's wrong?"
Jiang Li: "There's something I want to tell you."
Lu Zhiheng: "Go ahead, I'm listening."
"I am pregnant……"
The man on the other end of the phone fell silent instantly. Jiang Li's nerves tightened, and her breathing seemed to stop. Then, the man's voice came again, though it was noticeably unsteady.
"Where are you? Tell me, I'm coming right now."
"I'm at Xh Hospital, and Lin Yue is with me."
"Find a comfortable place to stay, don't wander off, don't overthink, I'll be right there."
"Okay, sure."
After hanging up the phone, a smile finally appeared on Jiang Li's face.
"He's on his way, isn't he?"
"Um."
Lin Yue glanced at her watch. "Come on, let's go sit in the coffee shop across the street for a while. Don't just stand there."
Lin Yue ordered herself a coffee to perk herself up, and asked Jiang Li for a cup of hot milk.
The two of them sat in the coffee shop for a while.
An hour later, Lu Zhiheng's car appeared at the entrance of the coffee shop.
From a distance, I saw a tall, slender man get out of the car.
Jiang Li's gaze was instantly drawn to it.
Lin Yue took Jiang Li's arm and walked out. When she stood in front of Lu Zhiheng, she silently retreated to the ginkgo tree not far away, turned her back, closed her ears, and pretended to look at the scenery.
Lu Zhiheng took Jiang Li's hand and gazed up at her radiant face. "Have you had the checkup?"
Jiang Li nodded and handed over the pregnancy test report.
"Here, see for yourself."
Lu Zhiheng took the form and looked at the test results word by word. The curve of his lips grew wider and wider, and his smile deepened.
He carefully folded the sheet and put it in his pocket, then reached out and pulled her into his arms. "I'm sorry you had to go through all this."
"Do you want this child?" Jiang Li looked up at him.
Lu Zhiheng looked down at her, gently massaging her lower back with his large hand, and said earnestly, word by word, "I want it, but the decision is in your hands. No matter what, I will support you."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Li nodded slightly.
"And you? Do you want it?" he asked softly.
Jiang Li paused for two seconds before slowly saying, "I didn't know... I'm pregnant out of wedlock, and I don't dare tell my parents..."
Lu Zhiheng unconsciously tightened his grip on her arm. He understood her panic and fear. She had just entered the workforce and graduated in June. The sudden appearance of the child was too much of a surprise for her.
She said she didn't know whether she wanted it or not, which means she did want it, but she didn't know how to face the various situations in reality, the first hurdle being her parents.
"Tomorrow I will go to your parents with sincerity to apologize and ask them to marry their precious daughter to me."
The person in his arms suddenly tensed up and looked up at him again.
Are you...are you sure?
Lu Zhiheng gently massaged her lower back, his voice slow and steady, "I'm quite certain, are you willing to give me a chance to become your husband?"
Jiang Li's eyes flickered slightly, her clear eyes gradually filling with tears. She pursed her lips and whispered, "I do."
Lin Yue, who was standing not far away, suddenly received a WeChat message from Song Yunzheng.
What time will you be back?
Lin Yue stared at the screen with delight, thinking she was seeing things. She turned around and stole a glance at the two people hugging each other behind her.
I'll be back right away, remember to save me lunch!
Looking at her phone screen, a smile unconsciously crept onto her lips. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of someone walking out of the hospital entrance—it was Gu Chaoyan.
She was walking towards the coffee shop when she looked up at the crosswalk and her eyes met Lin Yue's.
Gu Chaoyan quickened her pace and walked straight up to Lin Yue.
"Oh, isn't this Mrs. Song? Oh no, I mean, the former daughter-in-law of the Song family. Why are you alone?"
Former daughter-in-law? Lin Yue was slightly taken aback, and after a couple of seconds of stunned silence, she suddenly remembered the fake news she had deliberately created some time ago.
She looked at Gu Chaoyan with the eyes of someone looking at an idiot, a slight smile playing on her lips, her eyes carrying a hint of provocation, "You live by the sea?"
"I thought you were so lucky. I didn't expect you to be abandoned by Brother Yunzheng so quickly. I knew it. How could someone from a family background like yours be worthy of the noble title of Song family's daughter-in-law?"
Gu Chaoyan crossed her arms and looked Lin Yue up and down with a disdainful gaze, like a scanner. When she saw that Lin Yue was still wearing those designer clothes, she couldn't help but spit out her own words.
"You got a lot of money in your divorce from Yunzheng, didn't you? You've got a really good plan. No matter how you look at it, you're guaranteed to make a profit. Even if you didn't get Yunzheng, getting a large sum of money is enough to ensure you'll live a life of comfort."
Lin Yue put away her phone, picked at her ear, and looked at her teasingly, "What? When did the Gu family's heiress switch careers to become an entertainment gossip reporter? Are you so interested in my private life? I don't know as much as you do. People who don't know might think you have a crush on me."
