Chapter 190 Return

After the hustle and bustle of summer, autumn arrives as scheduled, and a sense of coolness and tranquility permeates the air.

As the autumn winds begin to blow, the leaves on the branches start to turn yellow, and the fruits on the trees become increasingly plump. It is the season when all things mature, and also the golden harvest season.

After joining the group at the start of the semester, Lin Yue devoted herself to her studies, living a simple life between home, work, and school. She was like a sponge, desperately absorbing knowledge.

University B's library is a treasure trove of knowledge, brightly lit year-round. Even in the early hours of the morning, many students remain engrossed and reluctant to leave.

As Lin Yue stepped out of the library after borrowing books, a chill carrying wisps of water mist hit her face. She couldn't help but shiver and quickly raised her hand to pull her thin coat tighter, gently tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear.

By the dim light from the doorway, she was surprised to find that the originally gray-white steps had been soaked by rain and turned a deep black.

The autumn rain, like smoke and mist, silently falls on the towering buildings, the withered branches and fallen leaves, wetting the ground, the houses, and the trees, like an endless scroll painting, with fine rain threads weaving a gray veil between heaven and earth.

Lin Yue didn't know it was going to rain when she left home, so she naturally didn't bring an umbrella.

A cool breeze carrying a drizzle slanted in under the eaves, wetting her shoes. She took two steps back, found a corner where she could escape the wind and rain, and waited for the rain to stop.

A moment later, the rain showed no signs of stopping and continued to fall silently.

Lin Yue took her phone out of her bag, and WeChat message notifications popped up one after another, with rows of little red bubbles emerging like bamboo shoots after a spring rain.

Yunxi asked her what time get out of class ended, Jiang Li sent her more than a dozen wedding photos of her and Lu Zhiheng and asked if they looked good, and her senior classmates asked if she was free tomorrow night and wanted to have dinner together.

Only the profile picture pinned to the top of my WeChat account remains unchanged for the past few months.

As dusk fell, people filed out of the library's main entrance, each with a hint of dissatisfaction on their face regarding the autumn rain.

A girl in a gray sweater stood quietly at the door, holding books, and like her, she had no umbrella.

Before long, a tall, thin boy came over with an umbrella, pulled the girl under it, and the two walked side by side into the rain. The umbrella was tilted towards the girl, and the boy's shoulder was mostly wet.

Seeing such a scene under the misty, drizzling night is truly enviable.

She gently raised her phone and pressed the shutter button on a street lamp not far away. In the photo, the street lamplight and shadows intertwined, and the raindrops, arranged in lines, were clearly visible like pearls.

After thinking for a moment, she sent the photo to Song Yunzheng.

Five months passed in the blink of an eye, and her longing for him surged like a tidal wave; not a day went by that she didn't think of him.

After hesitating for a moment, she dialed Yunxi's number. After only two rings, the call was answered quickly.

"Little sister-in-law?"

Lin Yue put her hands in her pockets and asked shyly, "Yunxi, are you free now?"

Before the word "yes" could even leave his lips, the person on the other end of the phone immediately changed their tune, "Is something wrong? Busy, I'm busy, I haven't finished here yet, sister-in-law, could you wait a little longer?"

Lin Yue was slightly taken aback. She hadn't said anything yet, had she?

Hearing the unsteady voice on the other end of the phone, she was a little puzzled, but she didn't dare to ask. She could only smile and say, "Okay, then you go ahead with your work."

After hanging up the phone, she looked down at her phone screen, her slender white fingers swiping aimlessly across it.

At times like this, it seems like no one is suitable to contact.

She sighed, put away her phone, and planned to use her bag to block it before running to the security room at the school gate to hail a taxi.

As she raised her bag above her head and stepped into the rain, her gaze froze for a moment. In the hazy night, she saw a tall man holding a black umbrella standing in the rain, raindrops sliding off the tip of the umbrella and turning into streaks of light.

Amidst the swirling rain and mist, the man strode towards her. The streetlights cast a cool, white glow on his profile. With each step he took closer, Lin Yue's eyes widened, until her pupils suddenly contracted, and the shock in her eyes froze into tears.

The man standing before me was dressed in a black overcoat, blending seamlessly into the night. His gaze was deep and serene, his black hair hanging slightly over his forehead, damp with a few strands of moisture, giving him a travel-worn appearance.

It was the most unforgettable face in her memory; with just one glance, she could see nothing else.

The sudden appearance of the person brought such a huge surprise that she didn't have a moment to react. Lin Yue stared blankly, unable to even distinguish whether this was reality or a dream.

Until I saw his smile and heard his voice.

"My darling, I'm back." Song Yunzheng's smiling fox eyes tilted slightly upwards, and his deep, full voice, like a gentle stream, soothed her parched heart.

Their eyes met, and without a second's hesitation, Lin Yue rushed over and threw herself into the man's arms.

The moment she stepped under the umbrella, all the gloom overhead seemed to lean towards her, while the wind and rain in front of her were shielded behind her by the man's broad and sturdy figure.

Song Yunzheng touched her cold hands, unbuttoned his black coat, and pulled her into his arms.

"You're wearing too little."

Lin Yue looked up at his sharply defined jawline, sniffed, and muttered, "Damn it, it took you so long to get back."

Song Yunzheng smoothed her slightly disheveled hair, his eyes swirling with emotions as thick as ink. He lowered his head and whispered casually in her ear, "It's my fault. I'm such a jerk. I kept my baby waiting."
