Xu Muyao noticed out of the corner of his eye that the store's employees and customers were secretly watching them. Afraid of attracting attention, he reluctantly accepted the money.
"Well... thank you, but this is a one-time offer. Please don't send them again, or people will misunderstand."
As soon as she spoke, a look of dejection flashed across the woman's face. However, since they were in the store and so many people were watching, she couldn't say much and could only nod in agreement helplessly.
"Eat it while it's hot, it won't taste right when it gets cold." Xie Ling said as she deftly helped open the lunchbox.
She looked every bit the perfect wife and mother, so Xu Muyao couldn't bring himself to refuse her, afraid of having any physical contact with her.
Jiang witnessed this scene, feeling jealous and angry, her anger written all over her face.
She suddenly stood up, her movements so abrupt that they startled the old man standing nearby.
She strode up to the two of them, her bright, doe-like eyes blazing with anger as she glared at the woman who was half a head taller than her.
"Who is this?" Xie Ling looked at Jiang Ye with a puzzled expression, then turned to Xu Muyao as if asking a question.
Before Xu Muyao could even speak, Jiang Ye, like a belligerent rooster, fired off the first question: "I should be asking you the same thing. Who are you? Why are you bringing him food?"
Women understand women best. No matter how big the age gap is, Xie Ling could tell at a glance that the girl in front of her was full of anger and that she, like herself, harbored feelings for Xu Muyao.
"I'm his friend, so what?" Xie Ling raised an eyebrow, her gentle expression instantly turning into disdain.
She thought that Xu Muyao, at his age, probably wouldn't be interested in a young girl. In terms of looks, she wasn't bad either. Besides, they were colleagues before, so they would definitely have more in common. Isn't the point of marriage to find someone you can talk to?
Jiang looked at Xu Muyao with a hint of jealousy, and asked through gritted teeth, "Is this food good?"
Because the man in her heart was Xu Muyao, she dared not tell any of her friends about her feelings, for fear of causing him trouble.
She recklessly and foolishly chased after him, planning to confess her feelings only when he showed some interest in her, thinking that would be a safer approach.
But who knew that a rival would suddenly appear out of nowhere, who knew there would be competitors!
"I don't know, I didn't eat it!" Xu Muyao explained in a low voice.
The already awkward atmosphere instantly froze.
The chaotic scene involving the three of them quickly attracted more curious glances.
"Brother Yao, I won't disturb your business any longer. I'll head back now. I'll come see you again when I have time." After saying this, Xie Ling gave Jiang Ye a provocative look, waved at Xu Muyao, and then turned and left.
"You're not allowed to eat this, throw it away!" Jiang also glared angrily at Xu Muyao.
She knew in her heart that she had no right to order him around, but she just couldn't help it!
Xu Muyao looked at her with a half-smile, "Wasting food is unacceptable. You know how hard it is to earn every grain of rice. How many people can't afford to eat?"
"Then...then you can give it to someone else."
"How about I give you some?"
Jiang glanced at the lunchbox in front of him, pouted, and said, "I don't care. I think the staff meals at your restaurant are much better."
Xu Muyao looked at the person throwing a childish tantrum in front of him and smiled helplessly, "Fine, I'll give it to Xiao Fang."
Jiang then pouted contentedly and returned to the elderly couple to continue chatting.
