Chapter 30: An Old Friend Returns?

After returning home, Jiang Anxin remained silent and went straight upstairs without eating dinner.

"Honey, what's wrong? Are you unhappy at school?" Jiang Kerou pushed open the door and asked softly. Ever since her daughter came home, she had been silent and looked very gloomy, which made Jiang Kerou a little worried.

Jiang Kerou sat down by the bedside and gently stroked her daughter's hand, trying to comfort her.

"Mommy, I saw Lin Yue today. She was with her husband," Jiang Anxin said, holding Jiang Kerou's hand with a complicated expression.

Jiang Kerou didn't react for a moment, and after a while she slowly spoke: "Lin Yue? Is that the daughter your father had with his ex-wife?"

Jiang Anxin pouted and nodded: "Yes, Dad mentioned it to me once. I saw her with her husband at B University today."

"She got married so early?" Jiang Kerou looked surprised.

Seeing that her mother seemed very interested in Lin Yue, Jiang Anxin quickly handed the photos she had secretly taken on her phone to Jiang Kerou and said, "This is what her husband looks like. Do you recognize him, Mommy?"

Jiang Kerou took the phone, took a closer look at the man in the photo, and couldn't help but frown, "This man looks kind of familiar..."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Anxin's eyes widened immediately, filled with excitement. "Really? Mommy, can you help me get to know him?"

Jiang Kerou looked at her daughter with suspicion, "Why do you want to know this person? Didn't you say he's Lin Yue's husband?"

Jiang Anxin stared at the photo on her phone screen with a lovesick expression. "Who knows if he's really my husband? I've never seen such a handsome man before. My heart almost jumped out of my chest when I first saw him. It's just a pity that Lin Yue was next to me and wouldn't let me get close to him."

Jiang Kerou frowned and pretended to be angry as she slapped the back of her hand. "Don't be silly. What kind of man can't you have? Why do you like someone who's already married? That's not good."

"Mommy~ I like this kind of guy, I don't like anyone else, can you help me get to know him?" Faced with Jiang Anxin's coquettish offensive, Jiang Kerou quickly couldn't resist and waved her hands repeatedly, "Okay, okay, you really are my ancestor, but, you can only get to know him, you can't cross the line, do you hear me!"

"Okay, thank you, Mommy."

——

Pearls flowed and jade spun, the sun and moon lingered. The weather grew increasingly cold; even at night, one could feel the dark clouds overhead, heavy and oppressive. The air, devoid of its biting chill, instead felt stuffy and oppressive.

Lin Yue leaned against the windowsill, craning her neck to look outside with curiosity, her eyes sparkling with anticipation: "Will it snow later?"

"Put on some clothes, be careful not to catch a cold." Song Yunzheng walked over with a coat in his hand, gently draped it over her shoulders, and then reached over her head to close the window.

Lin Yue quickly stopped him, her face showing a stubborn expression: "No, don't turn it off. The weather forecast says it will snow tonight, and I'm waiting for the snow."

"We'll talk about it later. Now go back to your room and go to sleep."

"Okay, then... carry me back." Lin Yue winked playfully, opened her arms for a hug, and acted like a child.

Song Yunzheng shook his head helplessly, but the corners of his mouth turned up slightly. He bent down, picked her up horizontally, carefully walked into the bedroom, gently placed her on the bed, and covered her with a blanket.

As he turned to leave, Lin Yue suddenly reached out and grabbed his sleeve, asking softly, "Aren't you going to sleep?"

"I still have some things to do, you go to sleep first." Song Yunzheng gently patted her head.

"Then I'll go with you!" Lin Yue suddenly sat up, threw off the covers, and walked down barefoot.

"Put your shoes on! How old are you? You have menstrual cramps every month, but you never learn, do you?" Song Yunzheng frowned as he watched her bare feet on the ground, and his voice unconsciously rose.

Perhaps because she was used to his harsh reprimands in daily life, Lin Yue was unmoved by his words just now, as if they were just passing by. She pretended not to hear them, turned around, quickly put on her shoes, and took his hand to walk out.

Song Yunzheng stood motionless like a statue, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't pull him away.

"Why aren't you leaving?" Lin Yue turned around and looked at him suspiciously.

Song Yunzheng sighed helplessly, walked to her side, gently stroked her fluffy head, and his tone softened unconsciously: "Be good, you go to sleep first. I'll go to the study to work for a while. I'll be distracted if you're next to me. Tomorrow is Christmas, I'll take you out to play."

Upon hearing that last sentence, Lin Yue's eyes lit up instantly, and her face was filled with undisguised excitement: "Really?"

Seeing her adorable expression, Song Yunzheng smiled indulgently: "Of course it's true, I never lie to children."

Lin Yue jumped up with joy and hugged his arm tightly: "Yay! That's great! I want to go to Gubei Water Town!"

"Okay, whatever you say. So go to sleep now."

Lin Yue lay back on the bed contentedly, closed her eyes, and a sweet smile lingered on her lips. Song Yunzheng tucked her in, gently kissed her forehead, turned off the light, and then turned and left the room.

As expected, the snow arrived quietly, with sparse snowflakes drifting lightly down from the sky. Before long, the snow fell heavier and heavier, turning from small flakes into cotton-like fluff. The sky seemed to be draped with a curtain, and the snow piled up on the ground, covering the rooftops, bending the tree branches, and obscuring the roads. The earth was a vast expanse of white, making it impossible to distinguish east from west or north from south.

After finishing his work, Song Yunzheng wearily rubbed his temples, his gaze unconsciously drifting to the window where everything was covered in a blanket of white. A slight smile crept onto his lips. "How crazy will that little girl go when she sees this snow tomorrow? Just thinking about it gives me a headache..."
