Chapter 36 It's Too Early to Have Children

The cold wind was like a knife, stinging my cheeks. The trees on both sides of the street had long since lost their leaves, leaving only bare trunks. It was only a little past two in the afternoon, and the sun had already withdrawn its pale light, as if it were afraid of the cold, hiding behind the thick, cotton-like clouds.

With the end of the semester approaching, the course schedule has become much more relaxed. Originally, there were no classes today, but because of what happened last night, Lin Yue didn't want to talk to Song Yunzheng for the time being. With nowhere else to go, she could only come to the school to hide and sat in the dormitory for the whole morning.

"Yuezai, are you planning to sit here all afternoon? It's not that I'm being disloyal, but I have to go on a date with my little puppy this afternoon... I probably won't be able to keep you company." Jiang Li said apologetically as she did her makeup, looking at her through the mirror.

Lin Yue waved her hand dismissively, "It's okay, you go about your business, don't worry about me. I was just about to go to the library to borrow a couple of books." Before she finished speaking, she stood up, patted Jiang Li's shoulder with a grin, and said, "Have a great date, I'm off now."

Jiang Li turned her head to watch Lin Yue's receding figure and frowned. This girl had been sitting in the dormitory all morning as a master of melancholy, not saying a word, just looking down at her phone. When asked, she said she was fine. It was really worrying.

Lin Yue arrived at the library, picked out two books that interested her, found a quiet corner, and had barely sat down when her phone started vibrating incessantly in her pocket. In the otherwise quiet atmosphere where you could hear a pin drop, the vibration was particularly jarring.

Luckily, no one was around. She took out her phone and saw it was a call from Song Yunzheng. She clicked her tongue in displeasure. Why was he calling me at this hour? Was he begging for forgiveness? Humph! I'm not that easy to coax!

However, despite her many grievances, she couldn't resist the sliver of expectation she held for Song Yunzheng deep in her heart. After hesitating for a moment, she pressed the answer button.

"Hello? What's up?" His tone was deliberately indifferent, yet carried a hint of playfulness.

"We're going to my parents' house for dinner tonight. I'll come pick you up later."

On the other end of the phone, Song Yunzheng was sitting at his desk, looking through medical records on his computer while making the call. He had anticipated her cold attitude, so when he heard her utter those three words in a curt tone, he wasn't angry at all. Instead, he felt she was like a ruffled kitten that needed to be stroked, which was incredibly cute.

Lin Yue wanted to refuse, but then she thought that it might be her in-laws who wanted her to go back, and it would seem impolite to refuse. "Oh, I see."

"Do you have classes this afternoon?" Song Yunzheng asked softly on the other end of the phone.

"No."

"Then I'll come pick you up soon."

"Oh, nothing else, I'll hang up now."

During the phone call, Lin Yue was very concise, and Song Yunzheng tried to be friendly but was met with indifference; she didn't give him a chance.

At exactly six o'clock in the evening, Song Yunzheng and Lin Yue arrived at his parents' house on time. Before entering, he took her hand, looked down at her, smiled without saying a word, because he knew that here, the little girl was just a docile kitten and would definitely cooperate obediently.

Upon entering, Zhou Lirong greeted her warmly, just as she had the first time they met, saying, "Yueyue, Mom has been waiting for you to come. Tell me, how long has it been since you last came back to see me?"

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Lin Yue shook off Song Yunzheng's hand and instead put her arm around Zhou Lirong's arm, saying coquettishly, "Mom, I also want to come back and see you and Dad more often, but he's just too busy. He can't get away from the hospital all the time." After saying that, she deliberately gave him a wronged look.

Song Yunzheng glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. The little girl was quite clever, knowing how to "use someone else to do your dirty work".

Zhou Lirong couldn't help but punch Song Yunzheng. "You brat, I knew it was your fault. You have to come back at least once a week from now on. Even if you don't come, just let Yueyue come back!"

Seeing him get punched by his mother, Lin Yue felt incredibly relieved. The anger that had been building up inside her vanished instantly because of that punch.

She raised her eyebrows triumphantly at Song Yunzheng, making a face as if to say, "Serves you right for bullying me and making me angry. I've finally found someone who can teach you a lesson."

Seeing her cover her mouth and chuckle after she succeeded, Song Yunzheng shook his head helplessly. His little wife was not only stubborn, but also someone who would always seek revenge.

Seeing that almost all the dishes were served, Zhou Lirong invited everyone to sit down and then smilingly brought two large bowls of dark, hot soup to Lin Yue and Song Yunzheng. "Try it quickly. Mom specially made this nourishing soup for you two. Drink it while it's hot."

A foul, fishy smell slowly entered Lin Yue's nostrils. She instinctively covered her mouth, her brows furrowing as she thought, "Can this stuff be drunk? It smells awful!"

"Mom, could you make us some normal soup?" Song Yunzheng picked up the bowl and smelled it, immediately knowing what Zhou Lirong was up to. "I'm perfectly healthy, I don't need to drink this!"

"Mom knows you're both healthy, so this is to give you a boost. The baby you have will definitely be very healthy too. Speaking of which, I think you should hurry up and have a child while your dad and I are still healthy enough to help take care of the baby..." Zhou Lirong said with a smile, getting happier and happier as she thought about it.

Lin Yue froze upon hearing the word "baby," her heart leaping into her throat. How did things suddenly escalate to the topic of childbirth? She felt a sudden panic; after all, she was only a junior in college! She didn't want to go to school heavily pregnant! She nervously glanced at Song Yunzheng beside her, her eyes pleading for his help.

"Mom, she's so young, why would she have a child? If you want to think about it, wait a few years. It's too early now."
