As soon as she stepped into the house, Lin Yue ran towards him with a beaming smile, threw herself into his arms, and said coquettishly, "Why are you so late? I'm starving!"
Song Yunzheng smiled helplessly, "There was a traffic jam on the way." He held up his hand, being careful not to hug her. He had just returned from the hospital and his body was covered in bacteria and viruses. He needed to take a shower and clean himself before he dared to have intimate contact with her. "I'm going to take a shower and I'll come and cook for you right away."
Lin Yue smiled and nodded, then rubbed against his chest like a kitten.
Suddenly, a fresh perfume scent wafted into Lin Yue's nostrils. The scent was unique, unlike ordinary perfume; it was more like a custom-made fragrance. She abruptly pushed him away, frowning, and said, "Why do you smell like perfume?"
Song Yunzheng's eyes flickered, as if he felt a little guilty, but he quickly recovered and said, "Maybe... it's from the new intern assistant."
This was the second time he had lied to her. He didn't know why he would subconsciously hide it from her. He comforted himself with this thought, finding a seemingly reasonable excuse for his lie.
In the hospital parking lot, Meng Wanning stopped him. "Azheng, can we talk?"
"There's nothing to talk about between us."
"I had no choice but to leave back then; I didn't mean to hurt you."
"It's all in the past, there's no point in talking about it anymore. People should look forward. Whether you explain or not, the result will be the same. I'm already married."
"Ah Zheng, I'm sorry, I should have come back sooner, right?"
When Meng Wanning hugged him, crying, he admitted he hesitated for a moment. His lover of eight years, whom he had longed for, had mysteriously disappeared on the very day he was preparing to propose, leaving only a breakup text message. He admitted he hated her intensely, hated that she had trampled his sincerity underfoot. She sobbed in his arms, and he felt a pang of heartache, but still cruelly pushed her away. Because he had severe mysophobia, including in matters of the heart, he knew that Lin Yue had entered his heart. He liked this lively, cheerful, and mischievous girl, even though she often made him angry; he simply loved her playful and energetic nature.
"Really? Are medical staff allowed to wear perfume during work hours?" Lin Yue looked at him suspiciously, seemingly not quite believing his statement.
"It's okay to spray a little bit now and then. Alright, alright, I'm not going to say anything more. I'm going to take a shower now, I still need to cook for you." He said as he quickly walked into the bathroom and closed the door. Afraid that Lin Yue would continue to ask questions, he chose to avoid the topic.
