Chapter 52 Dark Night Crisis

With her mind preoccupied, Lin Yue hurried towards the subway station. The cold winter night fell exceptionally quickly; just as the clock struck six, it was as if a giant black curtain had been drawn across the sky.

As she walked, she suddenly felt as if a pair of eyes were watching her from behind. She turned around alertly and saw that behind her were just some passersby hurrying along, all focused on their own paths, and there was nothing unusual about them.

Am I overthinking this? Could it be that Amy has caught up with us? She tapped her head. It must be because her schedule was too full today. She was so confused in class that she was even walking in a daze.

Before class ended, Lin Yue received a WeChat message from Song Yunzheng, telling her that he would be working overtime again tonight and might not get home until very late. She sighed helplessly, feeling a surge of emotion for the hard work of the medical staff.

But the further she walked, the more uneasy she became. Trying to remain calm, she quietly crouched down, pretending to tie her shoelaces, and used the early-lit streetlights to observe her surroundings. Sure enough, she saw a dark figure moving in sync with her, standing less than two meters away.

"Who's there!" She whirled around and shouted. If someone were there, it would be fine, but she found no one behind her. Where did this shadow come from? She panicked instantly, involuntarily swallowing hard. Who would be so bored as to follow her so late at night?!

Recalling her previous kidnapping experience... she quickened her pace, constantly looking back, her hand tightly gripping her phone as she dialed Song Yunzheng's number: "Hey, honey, are you off work?" She deliberately raised her voice, trying to scare away the dark figure behind her.

"It's still early. Are you home yet? I've ordered dinner for you. I'm worried about you ordering it yourself."

Lin Yue sighed softly, "Not yet. I thought you would come to pick me up today."

Song Yunzheng explained apologetically, "I'd like to, but there are always emergencies at the hospital, so I can't leave."

Just then, a burst of noise came from the other end of the phone, "Dr. Song, the test results for the patient in bed 36 are in..." followed by a flurry of footsteps and discussions.

"Honey, I'm busy. You should go home now. That's all for now." With that, the phone was abruptly hung up.

"Hey you..." Lin Yue hadn't finished speaking when the dial tone came from the other end. She pouted helplessly and muttered, "Okay, Dr. Song, you're busy."

After hanging up the phone, Lin Yue didn't put it down immediately. Instead, she pretended to continue making a call. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced behind her and saw a dark figure wearing a baseball cap getting closer and closer to her.

Looking around, she saw a quiet grove of trees, still some distance from the subway station. A strong sense of fear washed over her, and despite the cold, her palms were sweating profusely.

She was, after all, just a girl. Even though she had learned some fancy martial arts moves, she was still powerless against a male. At this moment, she was terrified. She clutched her phone tightly, pretending to still be on the call, and her pace quickened, gradually turning into a jog. She regretted wearing too many clothes today; running was really tiring, and she was out of breath after only a few steps.

Suddenly, a large hand slapped her shoulder. "Ah!" she screamed in fright. Then the large hand quickly covered her mouth. "Hmm..." Lin Yue struggled desperately, but it was as futile as throwing an egg against a rock.

The person covering her mouth was a burly man. She tried to shout for help, "Help! Someone's kidnapping me!" However, her mouth was covered tightly, and she could barely breathe. She could only stare wide-eyed.

Lin Yue's feet suddenly left the ground, her body twisting and turning in the air as she kicked with all her might. The burly man let out two muffled groans—that's what pain is! This spurred Lin Yue to kick even harder.

The burly man covered Lin Yue's mouth and dragged her to a grove of trees. This grove was usually deserted, with all sorts of bushes growing around it, and it was even more silent now.

The phone screen remained on the call log. In her struggle, Lin Yue's finger accidentally touched Song Yunzheng's number and dialed it again without her realizing it. She was so focused on struggling that she didn't know what this man's purpose was in kidnapping her. If it was robbery, she might still have a chance to survive, but what if he was a psychopathic killer?

In the hospital, Song Yunzheng was in a meeting when his phone rang. Seeing it was Lin Yue calling, he gestured to the hospital leaders, picked up the phone, and walked out of the meeting room to answer. "Hey, girl, I'm in a meeting, I'm not back yet... Hello? Lin Yue?!" Song Yunzheng finally sensed something was wrong. He heard a muffled "uh-huh" sound from the other end of the line, but it was definitely Lin Yue's voice. His heart leaped into his throat. "Lin Yue? Where are you? Speak!" His voice rose involuntarily, tinged with panic.

In the quiet grove, the burly man released Lin Yue and threw her to the ground, his phone flying to the side.

Just then, two more men appeared behind her, and Lin Yue was instantly dumbfounded, her mind going blank. She looked at the three men in front of her in terror, stammering, "What...what do you want? Why did you kidnap me?" The horrific experience Meng Wanning had previously endured flashed through her mind—"rape..." The thought struck her like lightning. If she were really...that way, she'd rather die!

"Get out of my way! Help! Help!" Lin Yue suddenly snapped out of her daze, stood up without hesitation, and ran wildly in the opposite direction, shouting as she ran. She prayed that someone would hear her cries for help and help her out of her predicament.

If it were just one man, perhaps she could muster the courage to fight him, but now she was facing three tall, strong men, and she knew she was powerless to resist. Yet, the instinct for survival drove her to struggle desperately, hoping for a miracle.
