Chapter 904: Going to Daqing Oilfield on New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve, the Zisu Xinzhou aircraft, Lin Sanqi's private plane, circled low over the Daqing Oilfield.

Yang Shufeng and Sun Jing from the Air Force were the pilots themselves. Having two generals fly the plane personally was definitely the treatment for state guests.

Lin Sanqi and Minister Zheng of the Ministry of Petroleum leaned against the cabin window and looked down at the land of Daqing.

Minister Zheng introduced:

"What we are seeing now is Datong Town, where the first oil well in Daqing, Songji Sanjing, was drilled.

This story began in 1957, when the 32118th Team of the Longjiang Petroleum Exploration Brigade of the Songliao Petroleum Exploration Bureau drilled the first benchmark well about 14 kilometers east of Renmin Town, Anda County, Longjiang Province.

We also called it Songji No. 1 Well, but the result was disappointing. Not to mention oil, there was not even a drop of natural gas.

At that time, many people believed that it was unlikely that there were oil fields in Daqing, including Soviet experts.

But I didn't believe it at that time, so I changed to another exploration team 32115 and drilled Songji No. 2 well in Gorlos County, Jilin Province.

Unfortunately, only a small amount of oil and gas was found in the end, and this second well failed again.

Oh, there were so many people reporting me for wasting state funds at that time, but I firmly believed that there was oil in Daqing.

In November 1958, we started the exploration of the third well and set the well location in the northwest of Datong Town, about 200 meters east of Xiaoxitun and about 100 meters west of Gaotaizi.

Finally, our efforts paid off. When we drilled to 1,462 meters, the well started gushing oil. We were so excited that we all jumped into the oil pool. Haha.

Comrade Sanqi, Songji Mitsui is not a simple matter. It marks that we have officially discovered the Gaotaizi Oilfield, found the first foothold for oil exploration in the Songliao Basin, and also found the direction for our subsequent exploration.

Later, we drilled one oil well after another nearby, and every well produced oil, and the situation was very good."

Lin Sanqi looked out from the plane and found that there was a vast expanse of snow below.

This is February, the coldest season in the north.

Lin Sanqi was originally planning to go back to Bao'an County to celebrate the New Year, but Minister Zheng dragged him to Daqing for a so-called inspection, in fact, he just wanted to implement the refinery project.

Lin Sanqi knew that the Ministry of Petroleum was now desperate to refine its own oil, so he had no choice but to agree to come along.

Fortunately, he now has a private plane. If he had taken a train and then a car, it would have taken at least a week to get to Daqing, which would have been crazy.

Lin Sanqi looked for a long time before he realized that there were many people working next to the drilling platforms on the ground, and they looked like ants moving.

So I couldn't help but wonder:

"Minister Zheng, today is New Year's Eve, why do I see workers still working?"

Minister Zheng said with emotion:

"There's no other way. We're so short of oil right now that we can't rest for even a single day. We just want to produce more oil and contribute more to the country so we can get rid of the label of an oil-poor country as soon as possible.

Not to mention far away, just look at the cars on the streets of our capital. They all have big balloons on top. Isn't this a slap in the face of us oil workers?

Before the Soviet experts withdrew, I was in the Yumen Oilfield. The Soviets said at the time that without their assistance, we would not be able to produce refined oil on a large scale for at least 20 years.

I was so angry at the time that I just couldn't believe it. Without Butcher Zhang, we would have to eat hairy pigs. The Soviets could do it, the Americans could do it, so why can't we Chinese do it?

However, the output of the Yumen Oilfield was far from enough. It was enough to supply our army before liberation, but after liberation, it was unable to take on the responsibility of supplying refined oil to the whole country.

So we urgently need to find a new large oil field. As the saying goes, Buddhas fight for a stick of incense, and people fight for a breath of air. This is why I insisted on finding an oil field in Daqing despite everyone's opposition.

Lin Sanqi was still a little curious:

"Minister Zheng, there's one thing I don't understand. Our country has 9.6 million square kilometers. How can you be so sure there's oil here? Drilling a test well would cost hundreds of thousands of yuan, which is no small sum."

Minister Zheng suddenly burst into laughter and said:

"That's based on scientific evidence, but of course luck is also a factor.

You may not know this, but in fact, in 1915, Standard Oil Company sent people to our Northeast and other places to conduct oil surveys.

The survey conclusion at that time was that most areas in northeastern China had no possibility of containing oil, and large-scale oil development was impossible.

The argument of "China is poor in oil" thus appeared in articles by foreign geologists. They believed that only marine sedimentary strata could generate large oil fields, and that large areas of inland China were terrestrial sedimentary strata and could not have oil.

In 1930, Japan, which had coveted my country's resources for many years, also began drilling for oil in the Northeast.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Japanese once again carried out large-scale oil drilling. By the time drilling stopped in 1942, a total of 81 test wells had been drilled, but no large-scale oil reserves were discovered.

So the Japanese also firmly believed the theory that "oil only exists in coastal areas" and determined that my country is an oil-poor country.

In fact, what is very thrilling is that in 1940, the Japanese army went to Anda County in the Songliao Basin and drilled a 1,000-meter-deep well, but no industrial oil flow was detected.

This well was only one kilometer away from the main oil-producing area of the Daqing Oilfield that was later discovered.

Comrade Sanqi, don't underestimate this small kilometer. If the Japanese had discovered this large oil field back then, the consequences would have been unimaginable. They would have occupied the Northeast at all costs.

Once the Japanese have oil and no longer rely on the United States, it will be even more difficult for us to fight this war of aggression.

Let’s not talk about anything else, just say that the Japanese had enough capacity to produce tanks and airplanes back then, but they did not produce oil domestically, and all gasoline and aviation refining had to be imported from the United States.

The Americans later cut off the Japanese's supply of refined oil, which also prevented the Japanese from operating their aircraft and warships, limiting their combat effectiveness. Otherwise, the Japanese might have really turned the tide in World War II."

Lin Sanqi was also hearing this story for the first time, and he was also a little scared.

"It's not bad, it's not bad. It seems that the country's destiny is on our side, just one kilometer away. The devil's luck is really bad, haha."

Minister Zheng then continued:

In 1954, geologist Comrade Li Siguang proposed, based on the theory of geomechanics, that it would be worthwhile to conduct a 'survey' of the North China Plain and the Songliao Plain for oil resource exploration in my country.

In addition, geologist Xie Jiarong also firmly believes that there may be oil reserves under the North China Plain and the Songliao Plain.

He also proposed the theory that organic matter in continental sediments may be mainly derived from the differentiation of terrestrial plants, and that terrestrial strata are the most likely oil-generating strata.

In addition, Huang Jiqing and many other geological experts have concluded after repeated research that terrestrial strata can produce oil, which is contrary to the views of Americans and Japanese.

We held many meetings, conducted dozens of repeated discussions, and carried out hundreds of field surveys before we determined that there would be oil in Daqing.

Later, with the approval of superiors, dozens of outstanding drilling teams, thousands of scientific and technological personnel, workers and 30,000 veterans were gathered from all over the country, plus more than 70,000 tons of equipment and facilities, to form an oil exploration army.

This marked the beginning of the vigorous oil battle, and we eventually found the Daqing Oilfield.

We only drilled three test wells, while the Japanese drilled 81 test wells back then, haha."

Lin Sanqi looked out the window and nodded slightly:

I thought to myself, yes, the destiny of the country is in my hands. Sometimes you have to believe in such fantastic things. For example, decades later, two buildings in the United States were knocked down, which also ushered in the golden decade of national destiny for our country.

We seized this opportunity and our domestic economy took off. That's luck.

The Zisu special plane then landed smoothly at the Daqing temporary airport.

Lin Sanqi came out of the cabin and was instantly frozen like a dog by the northwest wind.

In order to keep warm, he wore a goose down jacket which was not available in the country at that time, a mink hat on his head, and a mask, but he was still unbearable in the cold.

Looking at Minister Zheng and other accompanying personnel, they were wrapped in military coats and dressed much thinner, but they did not look very cold.

Lin Sanqi thought to himself that there was a certain difference in the physiques of people from the south and the north. (End of this chapter)
