Chapter 31 A World of Difference
"You're still the same as when you were little."
There was a flash of disappointment in Lin Zhiheng's eyes, but he still continued speaking.
Nan Zhiyan heard it, but did not stop until he heard Lin Zhiheng's voice again from behind him.
"There's a reason, right? You don't want to admit that you know me."
"Is the wound on your face the reason why you are in a bad mood?"
Nan Zhiyan stopped. Lin Zhiheng was the second person, besides Lu Yanjing, to notice the scars on her face.
But it brought back some memories that were buried deep in Nan Zhiyan's heart. After all, Lin Zhiheng has been an extremely careful person since he was a child.
I can always notice her changes at the first moment.
Lin Zhiheng walked up to Nan Zhiyan and handed the warm water on the tray to Nan Zhiyan.
The moment he lightly touched Nan Zhiyan's hand, the icy touch made Lin Zhiheng pause.
Then a trace of heartache flashed across his eyes. In the past few days, he finally understood the system and hierarchy of St. Derek's School.
He also learned about Nan Zhiyan's identity, the eldest daughter of the Taran family and the most capable assistant to the next imperial prime minister.
It also made him realize what a world of difference there was between him and Nan Zhiyan.
Before coming to Ulaf, Lin Zhiheng had never imagined that the distance between him and Nan Zhiyan would be like an unbridgeable chasm.
But he didn't think that this was the reason why Nan Zhiyan pretended not to know him. He knew Nan Zhiyan and he knew that Nan Zhiyan would not be that kind of person.
She is very similar to when she was a child, in every aspect. The only difference is that Nan Zhiyan now looks a little more indifferent than when she was a child.
She was more like the cold little girl covered with thorns who could easily hurt people when they first met.
But at the beginning, it took him a long time to make Nan Zhiyan become more cheerful.
Lin Zhiheng's actions left Nan Zhiyan no time to refuse, or rather, it was difficult to refuse at this moment.
The body's reaction is always faster than the brain, and the warm feeling instantly dispels the unbearable cold.
Nan Zhiyan's fingers tightened around the cup, but he still pursed his lips tightly, not wanting to look at the handsome and gentle face in front of him.
Lin Zhiheng put down the tray. No matter what the reason was, Nan Zhiyan looked like he was having a hard time right now.
This kind of hardship was different from the hardship they had experienced in the past when they were struggling on the brink of poverty to survive. It seemed like it was suppressing a lot of things that he could not see through.
"Do you remember? When I was a kid, my grandfather always asked me, 'Aheng, do you know who will get off first if a good guy and a bad guy get on the bus at the same time?'"
Lin Zhiheng glanced at Nan Zhiyan and began to imitate the old man's voice and movements.
He didn't know how to make people happy, so he could only use this most clumsy method, which was also the only method he had learned.
The inside of the arm that was inadvertently exposed revealed a large scar that caught Nan Zhiyan's eyes.
Nan Zhiyan raised his head, but the boy in front of him was unaware and continued with his performance.
"Is he a bad guy?"
"No, he's a good man."
"Why, Grandpa?"
"Because good people should always do their best!"
Lin Zhiheng's imitation was lifelike, and his handsome and lively eyes made Nan Zhiyan's memories, which he thought he would never remember again, reappear before his eyes.
Indeed, no matter how difficult the circumstances were, the old man could always make them laugh like a comedian.
Obviously those jokes were not funny at all, but they could always make Nan Zhiyan laugh out loud with incredible accuracy.
"You smiled."
Lin Zhiheng's voice rang in my ears, overlapping exactly with the voice of the little boy in my mind.
When he came to his senses, the young man in front of him looked at him cautiously, and the starlight in his eyes seemed to drown Nan Zhiyan.
Raising his hand to touch the corner of his mouth, Nan Zhiyan was stunned.
But it was unknown what she was thinking of. The corners of Nan Zhiyan's mouth drooped quickly. She took two steps back, not looking at the boy's eyes whose starlight was gradually fading because of her actions.
"I don't know what you're talking about, but please stay away from me in the future."
After saying this, Nan Zhiyan put down the cold wine glass in his hand, turned around and walked into the house.
However, he did not notice that there was a figure standing quietly in the gap of the curtains in front of the transparent floor-to-ceiling window on the other side.
Ji Lan took out the cigarette from his mouth and slowly exhaled a smoke ring.
Thinking of the scene I just saw, I pressed my heart, which was inexplicably excited.
It seemed that Nan Zhiyan had never smiled at them like this before, so he didn't know that Nan Zhiyan's smile was so different from usual.
Looking at the direction Nan Zhiyan left, Ji Lan threw away the cigarette butt in his hand, tiptoed, and caught up with Nan Zhiyan.
“Wow.”
A cry of surprise accompanied by the sound of clapping came from the stairs behind him. Nan Zhiyan turned around and looked at the person behind him.
"Master Hisoka."
Seeing that it was Ji Lan, Nan Zhiyan frowned slightly, lowered his head and greeted him.
Ji Lan put his hands in his pockets, walked down the stairs step by step, and came in front of Nan Zhiyan.
The corners of his lips twitched into a smile, his chestnut eyes somehow reminding him of a wild yet tamed brown bear.
"It's really a bit surprising that Nan Zhiyan would have a secret meeting with another man. By the way, don't you like A Jing?"
Ji Lan leaned down and met Nan Zhiyan's eyes, with a serious look of doubt in his eyes.
Ji Lan saw it! This thought flashed through Nan Zhiyan's mind, but soon, Nan Zhiyan calmed down.
"Are you talking about the waiter just now? Master Xi Suo, you seem to have misunderstood. I don't know him."
Nan Zhiyan's eyes were calm as he met Ji Lan's eyes directly, without the slightest hint of guilt.
The calm tone almost made Ji Lan think that the smile he just saw was an illusion.
"If there's nothing else, I'll go down first, Master Hisoka."
Seeing that Ji Lan was just looking at him without saying anything, Nan Zhiyan lowered his eyes, leaned forward slightly, and prepared to go downstairs.
"Then you don't mind Jing knowing about this, right?"
Nan Zhiyan retracted his raised foot, a hint of annoyance flashing across his eyes.
How could she not remember that Ji Lan used to be such a nosy person?
"How about this, if you smile at me or let me smell you, I'll keep it a secret for you, how about that?"
Ji Lan walked behind Nan Zhiyan and his eyes fell on the back of Nan Zhiyan's snow-white neck. After all, he had long been curious about what kind of smell Nan Zhiyan had.
Or it would be nice if Nan Zhiyan smiled at him. She smiled very nicely at the waiter Ying just now, and he liked it very much.
The frivolous words forced Nan Zhiyan to turn his head again. He raised his eyelids slightly and looked up at Ji Lan's face.
"Master Hisoka, I don't think I have anything worth keeping secret from you. Please be careful with your words."
It is at this time that one can notice that Nan Zhiyan actually has more white under his eyes, which is commonly known as the lower three whites.
This made Nan Zhiyan's eyes even colder and more ruthless when he looked up at people.
