72 New Year's Eve
◎Close your eyes and endure this tireless kiss◎
The 30th day of the twelfth lunar month, New Year's Eve.
At daybreak, Tian Nongxi was awakened by the crackling sound of firecrackers outside. She wanted to sleep a little longer, so she covered her head with a straw pillow, hoping to knock herself unconscious.
Because I was depressed by the noise, my chest ached when the knock on the door announced that I had to get up.
He sighed deeply, climbed out of bed with difficulty, and opened the door with gritted teeth.
Outside the door, Tian Guangzong, holding a string of firecrackers in each hand, smiled until his eyes narrowed into slits, and shouted at the top of his voice: "Little sister! Don't sleep anymore, set off the firecrackers! Open the door to welcome the good luck—"
"Isn't it set off at night?" Tian Nongxi complained sleepily, and went out obediently wrapped in his outer robe.
"Let's set it off tonight too!! Let's set it off tomorrow morning too!" Tian Guangzong was afraid that she would worry that he wouldn't be able to set it off later, so he patiently explained with a mouthful of cigarettes.
He suggested: "Why don't you go and wake His Highness up?"
"Forget it. What's there to see before dawn?" Tian Nongxi refused.
As soon as he finished speaking, a tall figure appeared at the door of the main house.
Wen Tingluan walked slowly over to the two of them, not even looking embarrassed at being woken up. "Let's go."
"You woke up a long time ago?" Tian Nongxi laughed, his sleepiness dispelled by a sense of gloating. "It seems that having excellent hearing isn't that great after all."
"There are many benefits, such as..." The unfinished words were cut off by the sound of firecrackers that Tian Guangzong anxiously lit. Tian Nongxi could only see his eyes that were as bright as stars.
When the sound of firecrackers subsided, Tian Nongxi hurriedly asked, "What did you just say? I didn't hear clearly."
Wen Tingluan held her hand and walked away from the pungent smell of gunpowder, shook his head and smiled, "Guess what, Xiaoxi."
"I won't guess. You're going to be so anxious." Tian Nongxi shook off his hand and went to wash up.
The sound of firecrackers came one after another. After one family finished setting off theirs, another family started again. The moon, which had not yet rested, hid under the clouds and refused to inhale the thick smoke. Soon, the sun took over the shift.
When Tian Nongxi came out after washing, the smell of smoke in the air had dissipated a lot. The sun was high in the sky, with dark clouds protecting it on both sides.
"Hey huh - Hey huh -" In the middle of the yard, Tian Guangzong was making glutinous rice cakes non-stop, sweating profusely from exhaustion.
He was beating it yesterday when Tian Nongxi went out to buy New Year's goods, and he was still beating it when he came back. She was afraid of wasting it, so she stood aside and asked secretly: "Do you need so many for four people?"
Tian Guangzong wiped his sweat and replied breathlessly: "Not much, I gave away yesterday's."
"Oh." Tian Nongxi ignored him and waved to Wen Tingluan to assign tasks.
"You wash the vegetables and I'll cut them." She put her hands on her hips, full of confidence.
Wen Tingluan smiled in response.
The two of them moved skillfully and soon prepared several dishes.
The chicken she had seen was given away before she left. Tian Nongxi bought another one yesterday, and it kept screaming from behind the kitchen door, as if it was dying. She couldn't bear it, so she killed the chicken with her knife and bled it out while she was chopping vegetables.
The chicken felt very wronged that it lost its life because of a human festival, so it called on the God of Thunder and the Goddess of Lightning for help. The sun, which had just been shining on the earth, suddenly hid behind the dark clouds.
The sounds of people running around in the alley: harvesting vegetables, collecting clothes, and driving livestock, echoed in the rumbling thunder.
Suddenly, it started to rain heavily. Tian Guangzong ran into the kitchen like a drowned rat, with water dripping from his trouser legs. He put the rice cake hidden in his arms on the stove, and started to wrap it with soybean powder without caring about his wet hair.
Three people stood in the small kitchen. Tian Nongxi's hands were covered in blood. He waved his hand nonchalantly and told Wen Tingluan to go back to the main house. "Go and accompany grandma."
Tian Guangzong also said: "Your Highness, go and have a rest."
Seeing that he was silent, Tian Nongxi handed him a bowl of dumplings that she had made yesterday and smiled slyly, "Then put the copper coins in the dumplings."
After Wen Tingluan picked up the oil-paper umbrella at the kitchen door and left, Tian Guangzong, who had been keeping his head down, leaned over to Tian Nongxi and asked in a low voice, "Little sister, have you been cheated?"
"Ah?" Tian Nongxi didn't understand what he meant.
"Look, the current emperor has only one son. If he were the one, how could he not go home for the New Year?" Tian Guangzong pointed at Wen Tingluan's back, "He's just an eunuch, right? He tricked you into spending money on him."
"You shouldn't have lied to me, right?" Tian Nongxi hesitated. "You also went to the East Palace. Did so many people lie to me together?"
"Why not? Money makes the world go round." Tian Guangzong handed Tian Nongxi a rice cake covered in flour while thinking seriously, "He does have an extraordinary temperament, but I'm still very skeptical."
Tian Nongxi was cutting a fish and smiled from ear to ear when he heard this. "It's okay, it's okay. I'd still like him even if he was the idiot from the next village."
She swallowed the hot rice cake in her mouth and praised with a smile: "It's delicious, brother, please make more."
Yanchao is not like the real world. There are very few edible vegetables in winter. Therefore, Tian Nongxi tried his best and there were more meat dishes on the table.
Braised fish, braised chicken, braised beef...
The dishes were brought to the table one by one. Tian Nongxi, who had just helped Huang to sit on the chair, smiled brightly and said, "Eat, eat." It was Chinese New Year, so she only dared to cook the dishes she was good at.
The custom here is to eat lunch and dinner together, and then stay up all night without sleeping.
Every household starts preparing the New Year's Eve dinner as soon as they wake up in the morning, and the eight dishes are served by the third hour.
The rain outside was getting lighter and lighter, but the sky was still gloomy. Tian Nongxi lit a candle to warm the dishes.
Outside the window, the occasional sound of firecrackers set off by wealthy families before dinner could be heard. The smell of gunpowder mixed with the aroma of food on the table drifted to everyone's nose. The door to the main house was slamming in the cold wind. Tian Nongxi stood up, closed the door, and moved the heater closer.
When she returned to the table, the glass had been filled with rice wine.
Wen Tingluan: "Try it, Xiaoxi, let Linqing Pavilion keep it."
He stood up to pour wine for Tian Guangzong, but was tremblingly refused, and only smiled, "It's my honor."
Before Wen Tingluan put down the wine pot, Tian Guangzong hurriedly took a sip of the wine and said it was delicious, "Little sister, you can serve this kind of rice wine in your shop next year. It will definitely be popular with guests."
Tian Nongxi was originally smiling, but upon hearing this, the corners of his mouth froze for half a second. He unconsciously clenched the wine glass in his hand, causing the rice wine in the glass to sway. He casually raised his hand to take a sip and replied softly, "Okay."
"Happy New Year." Wen Tingluan toasted the two of them.
"Happy New Year!"
"Happy New Year!"
The New Year's Eve dinner lasted nearly two hours. Huang rarely stopped nagging Tian Yaozu. She just focused on eating and ignored the laughter at the table.
When the dishes on the table were almost finished, she took out three red envelopes from her pocket and handed them to the other three people, "Xiao Zong, Xiao Zu, and Er Niang."
She didn't recognize the person very well, and she actually gave Wen Tingluan a red envelope, mistaking him for Tian Yaozu.
Wen Tingluan: "Thank you, grandma."
Tian Nongxi also took it and thanked him.
Tian Guangzong's eyes were filled with tears and he took it with both hands.
Huang smiled, and the sound of firecrackers rang out again from the nearby house. Her cloudy eyes suddenly brightened up for a moment, and she took Tian Guangzong, the last one to receive the red envelope, and was about to go out to watch the firecrackers.
It was a rare moment for her to consciously do something, and Tian Guangzong naturally obeyed. He carefully helped her to the door, and his joyful voice broke through the noise and reached Tian Nongxi's ears: "The rain has stopped!"
Tian Nongxi responded and continued to clean up the dishes.
"I'll wash the dishes." Wen Tingluan took the things in her hand and went to the kitchen, "Xiaoxi, go and have a rest."
Tian Nongxi cooked eight dishes and was so tired that her back and waist ached. However, she did not refuse and helped Wen Tingluan put the dishes and chopsticks on the stove, supporting herself with her hands and watching him wash the dishes.
When the last drop of water on the stove was wiped dry, Tian Nongxi pulled out a red envelope from behind his back like a magic trick, and handed it to Wen Tingluan with a smile on his face. "This is yours."
"Thank you, Xiaoxi."
"Happy New Year!" Tian Nongxi looked at him eagerly, with his hands stretched out and not retracted.
Wen Tingluan raised the corner of his mouth slightly and said, "I really want to see Xiaoxi looking at me wholeheartedly." He pondered for a moment, took out a very thick red envelope from his pocket, and sighed softly, "But I can't bear to see Xiaoxi feel lost."
He imitated her words: "Happy New Year."
"Happy New Year to you too!" Tian Nongxi quickly took the red envelope and put it in his sleeve, smiling, "I'll read it quietly tonight."
"We have to stay up tonight." Wen Tingluan suddenly took two steps forward, put his arms on the stove and looked down at her, trapping Tian Nongxi between the stove and his body.
The nose was instantly enveloped by the crisp, snow-like air. Tian Nongxi's throat felt a little dry, and he stared directly into Wen Tingluan's eyes, which looked slightly dangerous due to his drooping eyelashes in the backlight.
She gritted her teeth, grasped the clothes on his shoulders with her fingers, and kissed his thin lips.
With a "baji" sound, the kiss stopped briefly. Tian Nongxi looked at the man who was still savoring the moment, and smiled cutely, "I have to stay up tonight. Goodbye!"
After hearing this, Tian Nongxi happily returned to his room under Tian Guangzong's surprised gaze.
Behind her, Tian Guangzong could not retract his surprised gaze at all, and looked in astonishment at the person who was following Tian Nongxi a dozen steps away.
"We have to stay up tonight." Wen Tingluan threw down these five words and knocked on the door perfunctorily.
With a creaky sound, he opened the door that had just been closed again.
Tian Nongxi stopped opening the red envelope and looked at the person approaching with confusion.
"Stay up till the New Year's Eve." Wen Tingluan bent down and sat on the small stool.
He was such a big guy, and he looked very aggrieved sitting on the small bench. Tian Nongxi patted the seat next to him and motioned Wen Tingluan to sit over there.
As soon as Wen Tingluan sat down, he leaned forward, his tall nose touching her trembling eyelashes. He grabbed her shoulder in a playful manner, causing Tian Nongxi to stumble for a moment before collapsing onto the hard couch.
Before she could react, his lips were grabbed and her breath was instantly taken away. She could only climb onto his shoulders and close her eyes to endure this tireless kiss.
"Give it back to you." Wen Tingluan let out a soft laugh, his warm breath lingering on Tian Nongxi's ear, making her feel an unbearable tingle. Tian Nongxi couldn't avoid it and shrank back. He didn't know when his hand was on her thigh, patting it gently, and kissed her moist lips soothingly, "Open."
…
…
…
I don't know when the rain started again, it kept falling, and the small raindrops, sometimes big and sometimes small, kept hitting the window.
Floating in the water, the lonely duckweed has no support and can only cling tightly.
After an unknown amount of time, the sound of rain gradually faded.
"The benefit of having exceptional hearing is..." Wen Tingluan groaned, then chuckled softly and hoarsely, "I can hear all of Xixi's sounds."
The temperature in the cramped space rose, and Tian Nongxi's face flushed with heat. She glared at him with tears in her eyes, which seemed more like anger.
Wen Tingluan felt a pang in his heart. He kissed her forehead, which was covered with sweat, and whispered, "Don't act like a spoiled child."
The uncontrollable breathing sound disturbed the rhythm of his heartbeat. Tian Nongxi opened his mouth and his hoarse voice startled himself: "Who is acting like a spoiled child?"
She raised her hazy eyes and looked down along his collar which had been opened at some point, and couldn't help but stretch out two fingers to find out what was going on.
Before she could even touch her wrist, she was grabbed fiercely. She heard her hair wet with sweat and sighed, half-truthfully, "Don't move."
He restrained himself and leaned over to kiss her cherry lips, then turned over and lay on his side, eyes closed and motionless.
Tian Nongxi couldn't ignore the sound of rapid breathing. She felt a little exhausted, and with difficulty, she sat up. She looked at Wen Tingluan's red earlobe and coughed uncomfortably. Her voice was hoarse as she whispered, "I... I'll help you... that thing about reciprocity... giving someone a rose..."
Before she could finish her words, her hands were clamped down, and her low exclamation was stuck in her throat, unable to rise or fall. Before she could even raise the last syllable, her fingertips had already touched...
