The beautiful poor blind man

The beautiful poor blind man

After Zhu Ying left, Xu Ruoyan walked around the room once, then sat down at the table and began to apply medicine to herself.

She had actually examined the wounds in the carriage; although they appeared numerous and deep, none were fatal. As for why the original owner of this body couldn't endure it…

Just look at this body, so thin it's practically skin and bones.

Although she chose to become a doctor after growing up, Xu Ruoyan had been practicing martial arts since childhood under the guidance of her father, a retired armed police officer, and had never missed a day of training. Therefore, these injuries were nothing more than minor bruises to her. While casually applying medicine to herself, she lightly kicked the table.

Very well, it didn't disappoint her. This broken table looks broken, but it's actually even more broken; it would collapse with just a light kick.

She then looked at the other furnishings in the room—a bed and a large wardrobe—which looked twice her age and had probably not been cleaned for a long time, with a thick layer of dust on their surfaces.

Xu Ruoyan stopped in front of the cabinet, took a deep breath with a blank expression, held it, and then, as if making a firm decision, opened the cabinet door—

As expected, the dust in the cabinet, like a demon that had been lurking for years and was finally freed, frantically tried to get into her nostrils.

With a "bang," Xu Ruoyan closed the cabinet door again, expressionless, and then dusted off her hands.

What a terrible place! It's practically uninhabitable.

In fact, Xu Ruoyan had climbed mountains and crossed rivers and rolled in mud to learn martial arts when she was young, so she wasn't that delicate. But she was a clean freak, and if she were to live here day after day...

Before Xu Ruoyan could even furrow her brow, Zhu Ying's voice rang out from outside the door: "Madam, the master is calling for you."

Xu Ruoyan stood there stunned for a moment before realizing that the "Madam" was being addressed to her.

They've already started calling each other without even a proper wedding ceremony? That's way too casual!

Half a minute later, Xu Ruoyan stood outside another door.

Zhu Ying helped her push the door open a crack and stepped aside, saying, "Please, Madam."

Xu Ruoyan didn't dare to move, only peeking through the crack in the door. She saw a person sitting in a wheelchair with their back to her, their long, black hair cascading down, winding all the way to the ground. Although she couldn't see their face, this person seemed to have an aura of ethereal beauty, simply sitting there quietly exuding a transcendent and aloof air.

It matches the winter snow outside the door quite well.

Xu Ruoyan strode in and silently stood behind the person.

Bamboo Shadow thoughtfully closed the door for them.

Inside the simply furnished cabin, the lingering notes of the piano drifted slowly from the man's fingertips, encircling the two of them.

Xu Ruoyan realized that he was playing the zither.

Can a blind person play the piano and make music? That's an incredibly high level of skill.

As I was deep in thought, a deep voice suddenly rang out: "Spying on others is not a good habit."

The first thought that popped into Xu Ruoyan's head after the man spoke was that his voice was very pleasant, like the thick snow falling outside the window. Although it sounded a bit cold and aloof, it inexplicably made people feel at ease.

She snapped out of her daze, squatted down as a gesture of respect, and said, "I was being rude. I just happened to see it and was curious."

Fortunately, the man did not investigate further. He turned around in his wooden wheelchair, facing Xu Ruoyan: "My name is Pei Jue, and I will be your husband from now on."

"Xu Ruoyan." After giving her name, she quickly looked at the man in front of her.

Pei Jue's eyes were covered by a layer of white gauze. Xu Ruoyan looked into his eyes through the thin gauze and could only see a blurry gray ocean.

Pei Jue's eyes were unfocused; he must have truly gone blind.

Xu Ruoyan's gaze moved downwards, landing on his nose, lips, and neck in turn...

The man before me was dressed in a simple blue robe. He had tall, handsome features, a cold and indifferent expression, and a slender yet powerful physique, suggesting he was a trained martial artist. Although his eyes were covered, it was easy to tell he was a handsome man.

Xu Ruoyan suddenly became curious about how beautiful Pei Jue's eyes would be if he hadn't gone blind.

After what seemed like an eternity, Pei Jue finally spoke somewhat awkwardly: "...Have you decided yet?"

Xu Ruoyan realized she had been somewhat impolite and looked away.

Pei Jue then said, "If you have any questions, you can ask them now."

Since she had already said that, she decided to speak frankly.

“I know you’re blind,” Xu Ruoyan glanced at Pei Jue’s wheelchair, “but do you have any problems with your legs too?”

Pei Jue seemed to choke for a moment before replying, "No. Zhu Ying doesn't usually stay by my side, so it's more convenient for me to move around in a wheelchair. Besides, I'm not completely blind; I can still sense faint light."

Xu Ruoyan nodded, showing no intention of delving into the matter. How Pei Jue lost his sight and how he could regain it were not questions she should be concerned with.

What are your usual food preferences?

I prefer light flavors and dislike spicy food.

She hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Aside from my work hours, am I free to move around as I please?"

Pei Jue nodded: "I have no intention of restricting your freedom."

This is a good thing for Xu Ruoyan, as it gives her the opportunity to make various preparations for her escape.

One last question.

"Why me?"

To her surprise, Pei Jue shook his head: "You should ask Zhu Ying about that. My only requirement is to find me a wife who can take care of my daily life. Everything else is up to Zhu Ying."

Xu Ruoyan understood and nodded, saying, "I have no problem."

Upon hearing this, Pei Jue looked up at the window and said, "Then let's go cook. I think it's getting late."

The meal was ready quickly. When Xu Ruoyan peeked out from the kitchen, she noticed that Pei Jue had somehow arrived outside in a wheelchair. A thin layer of snow covered his shoulders, indicating that he had probably been there for quite some time.

When Xu Ruoyan looked at him, the snow slowly stopped.

"Where shall we eat?" She looked behind Pei Jue and saw only a stone table and three stone benches.

Pei Jue turned his wheelchair around and said, "Come to my room, it's too cold outside."

Xu Ruoyan happily carried the bowl and chopsticks to Pei Jue's room.

She had just made her first sale when she suddenly felt something was wrong.

Xu Ruoyan, a dignified attending physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Central Hospital of City A, how did she end up working as a nanny?

Bamboo Shadow appeared out of nowhere, carrying a plate, and brushed past her: "One must not be half-hearted when doing things."

Xu Ruoyan: "..."

When all the dishes were served, Pei Jue touched the white porridge and scattered vegetable leaves in front of him with his chopsticks and suddenly chuckled.

Xu Ruoyan immediately looked at him with an unfriendly gaze.

Pei Jue picked up a leaf of vegetable and put it in his mouth: "No wonder it was so fast."

Xu Ruoyan rolled her eyes: "If you don't want to eat, then don't eat. You're not cooking, yet you're being picky."

Standing behind them, Zhu Ying's face was gloomy, and his hand quietly reached for the knife tucked at his waist.

Pei Jue didn't care about Xu Ruoyan's resentment. He just smiled gently at Xu Ruoyan and said, "I dare not complain about Madam's cooking." After saying that, he picked up the bowl of white porridge and put it in his mouth.

That smile was so fake it was unbelievable. Xu Ruoyan silently complained in her heart, swallowing the food in her mouth.

As she reached for more food, she glanced at the straight-standing bamboo shadow behind her and asked, "Shadow Guard, aren't you eating?"

Zhu Ying replied curtly, "According to the rules, servants are not allowed to sit with their masters."

"Come and sit down. Things are different here than usual; there aren't as many rules," Pei Jue said.

The next second, Xu Ruoyan suddenly looked up at Pei Jue, then quickly lowered her head and continued eating as if nothing had happened.

"Here" refers to this small courtyard hidden deep in the wilderness. If not here, then where would it be?

Upon closer reflection, Xu Ruoyan was actually overwhelmed by a tremendous sense of incongruity the moment she saw Pei Jue. The gentle and refined Pei Jue was so out of place in this remote and desolate mountain village that no one would think of him as a rough and uncouth man from the mountains. Instead, he seemed like a refined young master from a wealthy family, someone on whom high hopes were placed and who had been adorned with countless jewels.

Moreover, beneath Pei Jue's gentle exterior, Xu Ruoyan sensed a sharp edge in him. As someone who had systematically studied martial arts, she knew exactly what that meant.

The young master sitting quietly eating in front of her right now might one day tear off his elegant exterior and reveal his ferocious and ruthless nature.

Even with so many doubts, Xu Ruoyan could only remain silent and pretend she hadn't noticed anything.

In this situation, playing dumb is the best way to protect yourself.

Her intuition, which had never failed her, told her that the person in front of her was not simple, and might even be dangerous. But right now, she had no interest in Pei Jue's past; all she wanted was to save her life and get out of there.

After the three finished their meal, Xu Ruoyan went to wash the dishes, while Pei Jue left Zhu Ying in the room.

Why choose her?

Bamboo Shadow answered directly: "Because she's the cheapest."

Pei Jue paused. They had no income at the moment, and he could barely afford to eat by selling his possessions, so price was indeed the primary criterion for everything he bought.

Zhu Ying added, "Moreover, that family said she knows a few words and is skilled in needlework, so I thought she might be able to help the master in some way."

Pei Jue nodded, indicating that he understood.

The two looked at each other in silence for a long time before Pei Jue suddenly spoke:

“Once she gets used to life here, with her by my side, you won’t have to worry about me all the time, and you can speed up the implementation of our plans.”

Zhu Ying hesitated and said, "But I can't put my mind at ease with you..."

Having said that, he lowered his head and, before Pei Jue could answer, said, "Your subject understands."

Pei Jue sighed almost imperceptibly and said, "You should go and rest."

After the bamboo shadows left, Pei Jue moved to the window and looked up at the moon.

Although he couldn't see clearly, he could sense a faint light, so he knew the direction of the moon, just as he knew what was in his heart.

Zhu Ying understood what he was thinking, which is why she stopped talking in time.

They tacitly understood this—

Go back and take back what rightfully belongs to them.

Bathed in moonlight, a blurry figure slowly rose in Pei Jue's mind, whose face and form were indistinct.

It is Xu Ruoyan.

If he could, he would like to know what Xu Ruoyan looks like.

Pei Jue let out a long sigh of relief. At this moment, the heavy fog that had been hanging over his mind since the incident suddenly dissipated a little.

Hopefully, her arrival will help the snow in this world melt faster.
