Chapter 24

Chapter 24

The flames melted the bushes, and the fire quickly spread, swaying in the mountain wind.

Smoke filled the air, enveloping Ango's mouth and nose. She coughed twice. She lowered her head. The grass and trees beside her were already ablaze, sparks flying in the evening breeze, burning small holes in her trouser legs. The tree trunk behind her also began to heat up, and it was sure that it would soon consume her as well.

Dai Li's eyes looked at Ango, calm but crazy.

Ango lowered his head and remained silent. In Dai Li's eyes, this should be giving up resistance.

However, Ango suddenly struggled hard.

"It's useless." Dai Li said coldly, "I tied you up very tightly. Even if you break free, I will end you with a bullet."

Ango raised her head. There were bloodstains on her face from rolling down the hillside, as well as streaks of black ashes, as if she was at the end of her life.

"Then we'll see whose bullet is faster."

"What?"

Ango bit the shell necklace around her neck with her teeth. The necklace and her eyes were shining - she seemed to be infected by Dai Li, and her green pupils were also stained with a hint of madness.

"What are you doing?" Dai Li raised her gun alertly.

But Ango's movements were faster. She stared at Dai Li's vital points and bit the necklace with her teeth. The shell automatically bounced open after receiving the force. At that moment, the pearl in the necklace shot out with a silver needle and hit Dai Li's throat.

Dai Li instinctively covered her throat, but soon, blood began to flow out of her eyes, nose, ears, and nails. She screamed in pain, her legs and feet softened, and she fell to the grass in the firelight.

Ango suddenly laughed and began to try to untie the ropes on her body, but the flames were getting closer and closer to her.

The flames gradually shot up into the sky, and black smoke rose slowly, attracting the attention of the surrounding residents. Even the believers who had just escaped from the church noticed the abnormality here, not to mention Lin Yaoxin, who had just separated from Ian and rushed to the top of the mountain.

Watching from a distance, he felt that something was wrong - something must have happened to Dr. An.

Lin Yaoxin stood halfway up the mountain and looked back at the church. Suddenly, he noticed several security cars driving up the winding mountain road. After hesitating for two seconds, he looked at the fire on the top of the mountain and finally walked up the mountain.

——Nothing will happen to my brother. The key is Dr. An, and he must complete the task assigned to him.

Lin Yaoxin's face was sullen as he made his judgment. Although he was still young, his past experiences had made him quite calm in the face of major events.

Lin Yaoxin walked towards the place where the fire was the brightest, using his own abilities to carve out a way to survive.

After a few minutes, he finally saw Ango tied to a tree. The flames were about to engulf her, and she was trying hard to use a stone to grind open the hemp rope that tied her.

Lin Yaoxin immediately stepped forward and waved his hand to disperse the flames around An Ge: "Doctor An!"

Ango raised his head and saw Lin Yaoxin. He didn't say anything and continued to grind the hemp rope with the stone.

Lin Yaoxin hurriedly went around behind An Ge and found that the rope was tied in a knot. Flames ignited on his fingertips and burned the rope, and An Ge regained his freedom.

Then Lin Yaoxin saw a priest in a silver robe lying on the ground: "Who is she?"

"The Purification Priest," Ango replied calmly, "is dead."

Lin Yaoxin was worried, so he went forward and turned Dai Li's body over. Dai Li's face was horrible, with dark red blood flowing from everywhere, and her eyes were open, as if she couldn't close them.

Seeing this, Lin Yaoxin asked again: "Is it poisoned? Where did the poison come from?"

Ango didn't answer. She walked to the place where she had set up the sniper rifle at the beginning. There was a sky full of flames behind her, and she looked at the scope slowly.

Lin Yaoxin also trotted forward and looked at the rooftop of the church from the same position - the two men were still confronting each other, Archdeacon Ian was struggling tenaciously, and for some reason, Xi Sen never gave him a fatal blow.

Ango sees more clearly and comprehensively through the lens.

She saw several heavily armed agents get out of a security car in front of the church, and she also saw Archbishop Owen desperately running up the stairs outside the bell tower. Owen stopped outside the third floor - because from his vantage point, he could just look up and see Ian's wounded appearance and the back of the man in black.

Ango couldn't hear what they were saying, nor did he understand why Xisen was so careless. However, Owen had indeed become an unexpected person. He quickly called a few priests and gathered them on the third-floor landing. They sneaked up the stairs from behind, seemingly intending to get behind Xisen and intervene in this crisis.

But Xi Sen was completely unaware.

"Heh." A hint of sarcasm appeared at the corner of Ango's lips.

She recalled what Duran had just said - it was Xisen who directly planned the shipwreck, and he used this incident as a bargaining chip in exchange for the opportunity to join the Interhead Group.

With just one shot, she could end the feud and regain her freedom, but her identity might be exposed.

She could also choose to hit the other person in the sight - Ian. With just one shot, Xisen would be able to escape immediately and would not be discovered by Owen and others, and the secret of their two identities could be kept.

The sniper rifle had plenty of bullets, but she knew clearly that she could only fire one shot. If she missed, everyone present would be on guard, making it more difficult to hit again, and the Security Bureau would come immediately.

For some reason, Lin Yaoxin suddenly had a bad premonition at this moment.

"Doctor An!" Without thinking too much, he spoke directly, "Brother trusts you very much!"

"What?" Ango looked away and looked at Lin Yaoxin.

Ango's expression was complicated, seemingly different from before. Lin Yaoxin's throat moved slightly, and he said, "I'm surprised... He exposed himself to your gun."

Ango did not respond. Lin Yaoxin's words could not shake her. She closed her eyes. Du Lang's words were still like thunder, which shocked her greatly. Xi Sen's usual indifference and cruelty echoed in her mind, making her mind about to explode.

She looked at the scope again.

The two people in the mirror were still confronting each other, and Owen and others were approaching.

Xi Sen is suspected to be her real enemy, and is now monitoring her, threatening and bribing her to cooperate; while Ian knows her identity, designed a trap for her, and sent people to burn her to death. There is bound to be a war between them until one side dies.

Now that she was about to fire this shot, who would she choose?

As she thought about it, Ango suddenly laughed again. She was laughing at the absurdity of fate.

What should she do? Ango continued to ask herself.

She had just killed someone and escaped death, but she did not feel happy, but uncomfortable; now she wanted to kill a second person, which one should she choose?

"Doctor An..." Lin Yaoxin became even more panicked and asked again, "Are you okay?"

Under the blood-red sunset and in the warm evening breeze, Ango's black shoulder-length hair fluttered. Her breathing became rapid and her heart beat faster. Finally, after intense thinking, she made a decision.

She pulled the trigger quickly, and with a bang, the bullet struck Ian, and a brilliant blood-red flower blossomed in his temples. However, the bullet then pierced Ian's brain, flew out, and grazed Xisen's right cheek.

Under the setting sun, Ian fell in a pool of blood. At this moment, time seemed to stand still. Xisen wiped the blood from his face in a daze.

Owen, who had secretly come behind Xisen, shouted: "No——"

Xi Sen suddenly realized that he had been so careless that the enemy came up behind him silently. Without any hesitation, he quickly blended his figure into the dark shadows and left the scene.

On the top of the mountain, Ango took a deep breath and gradually calmed himself down.

She is a rational, calm and decisive person. She cannot draw any conclusions before finding out the truth of the matter.

She couldn't make a decision that she might regret because of a momentary impulse; she couldn't take the life of someone who had once helped her because of Duran's one-sided words.

not to mention……

"Even if I hit Xisen, he wouldn't die." Ango looked at Lin Yaoxin calmly, "He's just confident in his abilities."

Just like the time they met in the infirmary, even if she had shot him, she still fell into his hands. She was not sure she could finish Xi Sen off with one shot.

Ango seemed to have regained his sanity by this time. Lin Yaoxin stood there somewhat bewildered, not knowing where to put his hands and feet, mumbling, "Maybe."

"Let's go." Ango put on the Yi Yan mask and said lightly.

"What should we do now?" Lin Yaoxin asked.

Ango looked at the burning female corpse on the ground, pulled out the hidden weapon from her throat, and replied, "The Security Bureau should be here soon, and the people from the town will also come to put out the fire. Let's sneak in."

Things turned out just as Ango had expected. The security vehicle quickly drove to the foot of the mountain. The priests in the church and the residents of the town also rushed over and joined the firefighting operation.

People were discussing whether the earthquake in the church and the sudden wildfire were the wrath of the gods and disasters sent down by them. However, they did not understand why the gods were angry and what they had done wrong.

Some people prostrated themselves and knelt devoutly in front of the mountain, praying for peace.

Many people also carried buckets of water up the mountain.

"Where are Lin Yaoxin and Dr. An?" Tang Yu and Ace also followed the crowd and stood at the door, looking around.

"Who are you looking for?" Qin, who was out on duty, heard the voices and came up to the two of them. "Is anyone missing?"

"Yes." Tang Yu nodded. "One of them is a doctor who can treat the wounded, and the other is our classmate who can control fire, but we can't find him."

"Captain Qin! We found two people in the woods!" Agent Lingling rushed over to report. "One of them claimed to be able to manipulate fire, so he came here early to put out the fire. The other... was Doctor Ango. They came here together."

"That's Ango and Lin Yaoxin!" Ace couldn't help but say, looking at Tang Yu happily.

"That's great." Qin Ye's voice was steady, giving people a sense of security.

"But..." A complex expression appeared on Lingling's face - embarrassment, hesitation, horror, and she spoke hesitantly.

"what happened?"

"There's a female corpse on the top of the mountain... Although it's burnt, based on the remains, it's probably the Purification Priest - Dai Li."

"What?" Qin Ye's voice trembled a little.

The people around who heard it were also terrified.

"Wait—I saw Dai Li leaving the church right after the first earthquake," someone whispered.

After the earthquake, Dai Li left the church and then encountered a wildfire on the mountain. All of this revealed an ominous meaning, as if these disasters were directed at her alone.

Tang Yu even covered his mouth and exchanged glances with Ace in disbelief - the purification priest they were looking for... was dead?
