Chapter 2 Politeness is his opening remark.
Looking at that face, the policewoman remembered.
Li Mushi.
The Li family.
This is the only family in Haishi that truly deserves the title of a distinguished family with a distinguished reputation.
Li Mushi's generation had three sons, including himself.
The eldest son went into politics, the second into literature, and the third into business.
Li Mushi ranked third.
Although the three brothers were born of the same mother, Li Mushi was the youngest son, and there was a large age gap between him and his two older brothers. He was only 8 years younger than his nephew, Li Zhan.
Having asked almost everything she needed to, the policewoman said politely, "If Miss Jing remembers anything else, please feel free to contact me."
Jing Ge stood behind Li Mushi. The man had broad shoulders and a tall back. Jing Ge's forehead almost touched his shoulder, and he could smell the soapy scent on him diluted by the cold air.
No one was surprised by Li Mushi's use of the word "guardian".
Including the frame.
Although she is 20 years old, she no longer needs a guardian.
Before Jing Ge could even appear and nod, Li Mushi pulled out a business card from his pocket and handed it to the policewoman with both hands: "This is Li's contact information. If the police station needs any further cooperation, please contact me first. She's just entered society and hasn't been exposed to these things before."
Policewoman: "...Okay."
After handling the matter properly, Li Mushi turned around, glanced at Jing Ge, and said, "Let's go home."
After saying that, he stepped down.
Jingge hurriedly followed for two steps, then, as if remembering something, grabbed his shirt in a rush.
When my finger bones bent, they accidentally touched his waist.
Warm, hard.
Li Mushi stopped and glanced at her out of the corner of his eye.
Jing Ge felt as if he had burned his fingers and quickly let go, saying weakly, "Uncle, I haven't paid for the sugarcane I bought yet."
The man's gaze briefly swept over the sugarcane.
The driver, who was waiting nearby, understood and went to the fruit shop to scan the code and pay.
"Thank you, Uncle Zhang," Jing Ge swallowed the words that were about to come out of his mouth. "I'll go pay the money." "I'll transfer the money to you later."
The driver was Li Mushi's personal driver.
"Hey, how much is this?"
Before getting into the car, Jingge bent down and sat in the back seat, took off his shoes, and carried them into the car with the soles facing each other.
Li Mushi glanced at her actions and said, "Throw it away."
“No,” Jingge shook his head, “This is a 20th birthday gift from my mother.”
A pair of new women's Nike shoes.
Li Mushi looked indifferently, reached into the back of his chair and took out a pair of brand-new slippers for her, along with a paper bag.
I don't understand, but I respect it.
Jingge glanced at him, thanked him, and quickly put on his slippers, stuffing his sneakers, stained with blood from the crime scene, into a bag.
"By the way," Jingge couldn't hold back any longer and made conversation, "Uncle, what brings you here?"
The driver replied, "I happened to be next to you when you answered the phone, young master. I was worried that something might happen to you, so I told Third Master."
Jing Ge instantly became listless at the mention of Li Zhan.
The bag of sugarcane hung on a hook behind the driver's seat, swaying precariously.
"Uncle, would you like some sugarcane?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Jingge thought he might as well die.
Li Mushi doesn't seem like the type of person who would eat sugarcane.
His speech, actions, and posture were all as if sculpted from a mold; he had no big expressions or big movements, and apart from three meals a day, he almost never ate snacks.
The atmosphere became awkward for a moment.
Until Li Mushi handed him his phone: "Write down my number."
The screen was bright and clear, revealing the man's strikingly handsome features.
Jingge hesitated: "No need, Uncle..."
“Add,” Li Mushi said emphatically, “With your second brother and sister-in-law not here, if something happens to you, I won’t be able to explain it to them.”
The second brother and sister-in-law he mentioned are Li Zhan's parents, who are also Jing Ge's future in-laws.
Her constant affectation only made her seem like the person Li Zhan had criticized.
Jing Ge took out his phone and added his contact information.
Seeing that she had preserved it well, Li Mushi gestured towards the sugarcane with his gaze: "Eat less, it's cold."
“Sugarcane is sweet in winter,” Jingge said, becoming more talkative when nervous. “And I originally wanted to buy some roasted chestnuts, to hold them warmly in my arms, but chestnuts are so expensive, 25 yuan a pound. You could buy two sugarcanes and still get a penny back…”
Li Mushi frowned: "Not enough money?"
After saying that, Jingge immediately regretted his loose tongue: "Enough."
Li Mushi didn't say anything more.
People in high positions of power are often taciturn.
The car was about to turn into the Li family villa.
Li Mushi withdrew his gaze from the window and turned his face away: "The reason."
"...ah?"
"The reason for going out alone at night."
"..." Jing Ge pursed his lips, wilting like a dehydrated vegetable. "Li Zhan told me to get out."
Li Mushi: "The reason."
Jingge didn't want to talk about it.
Li Mushi looked out the window again: "I need to know the reason so I can make the decision for you."
Jingge's nasal cavity instantly filled with a sour feeling, and the impact almost brought tears to his eyes.
"I want to go home, Uncle."
There was a faint sob in his voice.
"..." Li Mushi paused for a moment, then said in a low voice, "Before my second brother and sister-in-law left, they entrusted you, Li Zhan, and Li Ying to me. You must wait for them to return."
We can't just leave like this.
Jing Ge's shoulders trembled slightly, a barely suppressed tremor.
The man stretched out his long, straight hand in front of her, with a plain handkerchief in his palm.
Jingge thanked him in a muffled voice, covered his eyes with a handkerchief, and wiped away the few tears that he couldn't hold back.
"Uncle."
"Um."
"You're such a nice person."
"......"
The driver's mouth twitched so hard it was almost contorted.
My own boss actually got a "good guy" card.
Outsiders know that Li Mushi is reserved, steady, rational, and disciplined, and never makes any mistakes in following the rules, but no one would praise him as a good person based on that alone.
One second he's polite and courteous to you, the next he's ruthless and predatory. Politeness is his opening line, ruthlessness is his true nature.
Jingge returned the handkerchief to him.
Li Mushi pushed open the car door and got out: "I threw it away."
"......"
She wiped away her tears, but didn't wipe her nose!
If she thought it was dirty, she could just wash it and return it to him. The handkerchief was made of soft and comfortable fabric, like a cloud, and the plum blossom on the corner was double-sided hand-embroidered.
She wiped away her tears and threw them away; I should have just used the back of her hand.
To avoid wasting such a delicate piece of material.
Jingge silently stuffed the handkerchief into his pocket.
Li Zhan's dog rushed over enthusiastically.
Jingge squatted down, hugged it, buried his face in its clean, thick neck fur, and almost cried again.
Li Mushi stood there watching her hug the dog.
"Sirius—"
An unpleasant voice came from the entrance hall, and the dog in Jing Ge's arms lowered its head, turned around, and ran back instantly.
Li Zhan stood under the lamp with his arms crossed.
He smiled faintly, his gaze sweeping from Jing Ge's head to the soles of her shoes. When he saw her slippers, which were clearly men's, his smile froze for a moment.
Regardless of what he was thinking, Li Mushi brushed past him and walked into the room: "Come in, all of you."
Jing Ge sniffed and tried to walk inside, avoiding Li Zhan, but was stopped by his outstretched arm.
She looked up.
Li Zhan resembled Li Mushi, but was a few years younger, his eyes filled with youthful naiveté and an untamed, world-destroying arrogance: "You're quite the schemer. My uncle never lends his personal belongings to outsiders. With such methods, why don't you try to seduce me? Or have you forgotten that I'm your fiancé?"
