Chapter 25: Birds of a feather.
The living room suddenly fell silent.
As if afraid he wouldn't hear, Jing Ge remained as calm as still water, repeating, "You're shameless."
Cai Zhi grabbed her and said urgently, "Princess!"
"The Jing family's vast ancestral business was ruined by your investment mistakes," Jing Ge said bluntly. "It was your reckless nature that led you to try and overpower the Li family. You ignored Uncle Li and Aunt Man's advice and insisted on taking that step, resulting in the destruction of the entire Jing family. You destroyed it, and now you're selling me out to rebuild it?"
Upon hearing this, along with the debt from that phone call before the New Year, Jing's father flew into a rage and slapped her hard across the face.
"Smack—"
Jingge was almost thrown halfway off the ground.
Cai Zhi hugged her tightly, crying, "What are you doing?! Try hitting me again!"
"You have to apologize, whether you want to or not!" Mr. Jing said coldly.
Jing Ge's face swelled up on the spot.
The pain was so intense that I lost consciousness.
She gave a slight twitch at the other corner of her lips: "Fine, it's just an apology, isn't it?"
She lowered her eyes and dialed Li Zhan's number: "Where are you?"
The other person sneered: "So you finally remembered your fiancé?"
“Li Zhan,” Jing Ge said calmly, “I asked you where you are?”
"Having fun at the bar," the man said lazily, his voice slightly tipsy. "Want a drink?"
Jing Ge: "Okay."
"......"
As if pausing, pausing for a few seconds, Li Zhan finally composed himself and asked, "Really?"
Jing Ge: "It's been so long since I've seen you. I miss you. Can I keep you company?"
Li Zhan's voice grew colder: "What's wrong with you?"
Jing Ge: "Hide what's outside well, or I'll kill you two, you adulterous couple."
"......"
After hanging up the phone, Jing Ge walked out with his face looking like a steamed bun.
Cai Zhi was both flustered and anxious: "What do you mean? What does he mean by having someone else on the side? He's having an affair?"
“It’s okay,” Jing Ge said, tidying her messy hair. “I’m the legal wife, he can do whatever he wants, as long as the Li family can give Dad money.”
Jing Ge smirked at his father, "I'll make him apologize to you."
Her father's hand was numb from hitting her.
-
Upon arriving at the bar, Jingge went straight to the second floor.
The laser lights swept across the booth, which should have been a scene of extravagance and debauchery. However, apart from Li Zhan, who was slouching, the other three men were sitting upright, looking as if they were facing a formidable enemy.
Jingge recognized them.
They are all friends who grew up together.
“Sister-in-law, you’ve arrived,” Fan Mingjie said stiffly. “Please sit down, please sit down.”
The lighting was dim, and Jing Ge's long hair covered both sides of her face. She didn't answer his question, but instead bent down and picked up the wine bottle on the table.
Li Zhan suddenly sat up straight and grabbed her hand: "What are you doing?"
Jing Ge: "I apologize to you."
Li Zhan absurdly asked, "Which way?"
Jing Ge: "All."
She pulled Li Zhan's hand away, tilted her head back, and gulped down a bottle of liquor of unknown origin.
The other three were stunned.
After finishing the bottle, Jing Ge clearly spoke: "I'm sorry, I, Jing Ge, am sorry, Li Zhan."
Then, she picked up another bottle.
Li Zhan's eyes were icy cold: "That's enough, Jing Ge..."
Jingge ignored him, lost in a frenzy, and finished another bottle.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."
Li Zhan stood up straight without anyone noticing.
Jingge picked up the third bottle.
Li Zhan gripped her wrist tightly: "Don't go crazy..."
Jingge simply switched hands and used his other hand to pour the contents into his mouth.
Li Zhan reached out to snatch it, but Jing Ge dodged while drinking. He choked halfway through, wiped it with his sleeve without a care, and quickly finished the remaining half.
"I'm sorry, these three bottles of wine represent my sincerity. If it's not enough, I can drink more."
"Jing Ge!" Li Zhan gritted his teeth, "What the hell happened to you?"
Jingge bent down, and the other three quickly cleared the table.
Jing Ge reached for nothing.
Even the wine bottles are gone.
Jing Ge wiped his mouth, like a programmed robot, without a trace of emotion: "Next time you see my dad, can you say hello to him?"
"......"
Jing Ge: "Is that okay?"
Li Zhan opened and closed his mouth as if he wanted to explain, but he wasn't the type to explain. After several attempts, he swallowed his words back.
Jingge waved to the waiter, "Bring me some wine."
"No," Li Zhan said firmly, "Go home."
Jingge asked him again, "Next time my dad visits your house, can you say hello to him?"
Fan Mingjie kicked Li Zhan under the table, signaling him to respond quickly.
A brief moment of silence.
Li Zhan's voice was slightly hoarse: "Yes."
"Thank you," Jing Ge said politely. "If you need anything in the future, just call me anytime, and I'll be there whenever you need me."
"......"
Jing Ge nodded to the other three again: "Sorry to bother you, goodbye."
"Sister-in-law, you're too kind..."
It's dry and unengaging.
Jing Ge didn't look at anyone, nor did he say another word. He turned and left.
The alcohol hit her hard; she felt dizzy as she went down the stairs and had to hold onto the railing, carefully taking each step one by one.
Li Zhan stood frozen in the darkness.
Fan Mingjie was a little worried: "Brother, maybe I saw it wrong... Um, sister-in-law's face is swollen, did she get beaten up?"
Li Zhan suddenly looked at him.
“It’s…quite obvious,” Fan Mingjie said. “When he tilts his head back to drink, his hair falls to his ears, revealing his face…”
A gust of wind swept past, and Li Zhan had vanished without a trace.
The first floor of the bar was a chaotic scene, with people coming for a drink, looking for excitement, and targeting single women with their glasses.
Jing Ge staggered past, only to be blocked by a strange man.
"Beautiful lady, would you like a drink..."
The man had barely uttered the word "cup" when he was kicked in the stomach.
Li Zhan pulled Jing Ge into his arms: "Drink your ass!"
Jingge was taken outside by him.
A cold wind howled, and Jing Ge's feverish mind cleared a little as he struggled to break free from his arm.
Li Zhan had no time to argue with her, so he brushed aside the strands of hair on her face.
I saw that palm print.
Li Zhan froze: "Who hit him?"
Jing Ge slapped his hand away, slightly drunk, and scoffed, "Hypocrite."
"...I'm asking you who hit you!" Li Zhan's jaw muscles bulged. "Your dad?"
Jing Ge frowned and corrected him: "He's your future father-in-law. You should call him uncle. What do you mean by 'your dad'? If you knew any manners, would I have had to take this beating?"
Li Zhan grabbed her wrist: "I'll take you to him."
Jingge struggled: "Get away from me!"
"Where should I go?" Li Zhan's eyes were red. "Why did he hit you!"
Jing Ge was bewildered for a moment: "Why can't he hit me? He's more qualified than you, why are you even asking?"
Li Zhan was blinded by rage: "You're mine! He can't!"
"..." Jing Ge tilted his head slightly, understanding. "You look down on him. He touched your things, and you think he's being disrespectful. He didn't slap my face, he slapped yours. Between the two of you, which one of you has ever treated me like a human being?"
Li Zhan's lip line is straight.
Jingge laughed: "They are like a raccoon dog."
Li Zhan suddenly asked, "And what about you?"
"What about me?"
"And who are you?" Li Zhan questioned. "Why do you have your uncle's handkerchief hidden in your room?"
