Chapter 60: Enough is enough.
Li Ying really liked the feeling of being a rich woman.
An unlimited card, with no restrictions on what you can buy, and the cardholder is always there to cover your expenses no matter what you do.
It felt amazing!
"Sister, you're not allowed to pay!" Li Ying waved her hand. "My uncle is the richest man in our family. Even if we bought this whole mall, it wouldn't be worth him blinking an eye. We'll swipe this card for everything today!"
Jingge was so envious of her: "I also want a rich younger brother-in-law."
Li Ying was very generous: "Aren't we family? What's mine is yours!"
At this point, Jing Ge didn't react much, but Li Ying remembered that her older sister and brother were going to break off their engagement.
They can no longer be a family.
"Sister," Li Ying said sullenly, "My parents have been looking for my brother. He didn't go to school, and he didn't go to the market..."
Jing Ge stroked her head: "Your brother is an adult now, and he practices karate. No one can bully him."
Actually, Li Zhan never liked going home. I don't know when he developed this habit, but he doesn't even say hello.
Perhaps everyone has gotten used to it; aside from wanting to find him to resolve the engagement issue, they are not worried about his safety.
Li Ying looked up at her: "Are you really going to call off the engagement?"
“The knot between your brother and me is beyond untying,” Jing Ge bent down to look her in the eye. “Uncle Li and Aunt Man have been very good to me, and everyone in the Li family has been very good to me. Although I can’t be your sister-in-law, we are still family.”
Li Ying was unhappy.
What relatives?
Once everyone has families, they will only drift further apart.
"Relatives" is a polite way of saying it.
It was all just to appease her.
Jingge didn't want to expose the darker side of things to her, so she changed the subject: "There's a bookstore up ahead, I'll help you pick out two sets of homework."
"..." Li Ying collapsed instantly. "My mom is planning to make me repeat a year."
Jing Ge: "Repeating a grade is fine too..."
Li Ying exclaimed, "Sister, you skipped a grade while I had to repeat one! How embarrassing!"
“It’s not shameful,” Jingge said gently, “Uncle Li and Aunt Man are willing to let you grow up slowly because they love you. Your older sister was forced to run all the way. If she ran too slowly, they would whip her. She still has nightmares often.”
There was no one behind her; if she ran too slow, the whip of life would lash out.
Li Ying was the child she admired the most.
After buying a few things, Jing Ge received a call from Cai Zhi, asking her to come back to the Jing family home.
Jingge is very distant, and his feelings for his mother have vanished after he realized the truth.
"I still have work to do."
"Then when you get off work, Mom will cook you taro with braised pork belly," Cai Zhi said cautiously.
Jing Ge: "I don't know what time it will be..."
Cai Zhi quickly said, "It's rare for Prince to come home, let's have a family gathering."
Jingge's relationship with Prince Jing was somewhat complicated; to describe it in one word, it would be "reserved."
Although he was the apple of his family's eye, when the Jing family went bankrupt, Prince Jing was kidnapped by creditors and it took him five days to find and return him. After that, he became taciturn and was no longer spoiled and willful.
On the contrary, he resembles Li Mushi in two ways.
Jing Ge thought about it and realized that the marriage couldn't be called off just because Li Zhan wasn't back for a day. She still needed to urge them to hurry up.
They agreed.
Uncle Zhang came to pick them up, and Jing Ge was surprised: "Uncle, didn't you say you were busy today..."
"They switched me back at the last minute," Uncle Zhang said cheerfully, "because they were afraid you'd be shy around strangers."
The two girls need to be picked up by someone they know to feel at ease.
There's just this one person who has this ability; mentioning him brings a sense of "peace of mind."
Uncle Zhang was her kind elder, and he would chat with her about lighthearted gossip, so Jingge didn't have to be so reserved with him.
“It’s almost the end of the year,” Uncle Zhang said. “Third Master is too busy, otherwise he could have come to pick you up in person.”
Jing Ge: "Uncle's birthday is coming up."
Uncle Zhang: "Yes, the old man and woman insisted on throwing him a banquet..."
Jing Ge: "Did you two have a fight?"
“There’s no way we can argue,” Uncle Zhang said. “Third Master always dismisses us with just half a sentence.”
Jing Ge: "How did you get rid of them?"
Uncle Zhang put on a stern face, mimicking someone's serious demeanor: "What are we doing? Just celebrating your retirement and how you two can't stay idle... That's all, the old folks can't handle it."
Jingge couldn't help but laugh.
Li Ying laughed out loud.
"But the blind date I introduced to Third Master last time actually took a liking to him," Uncle Zhang laughed, "She's come to the company several times."
Li Ying was shocked: "Is Uncle getting married?"
Jing Ge raised his eyelashes and looked at Uncle Zhang in the rearview mirror.
"I don't know," Uncle Zhang said. "We can't fathom Third Master's thoughts."
Li Ying tugged at Jing Ge: "Sister, Uncle didn't order me any cake today. Is he warning us?"
"..." Jing Ge exclaimed, "What warning?"
Li Ying said with a bitter face, "He's about to get married, and he told us not to bother him."
The young girl spoke bluntly and sharply, without any tact, so Uncle Zhang quickly interrupted her, "Don't guess wildly, that's impossible."
Jingge remained silent for a moment, then said, "Hmm."
Li Ying is her biological niece, unlike her. She's fake. If anyone needs a warning, it should be her.
"Ah, so you..." Uncle Zhang said dryly, "What gift did you prepare for Third Master?"
Li Ying: "I'll just kowtow to him, and I'll even get a red envelope."
Uncle Zhang was speechless: "Where is the princess?"
Jingge looked out the window and saw the sky displaying the blue hues of sunset, which seemed particularly chilly and cold in the winter, making one shiver at the sight.
"The Jing family will send it, so I won't send it. A cheap one isn't good enough for my uncle, and if it's too expensive, he'll have to pay me extra... Hmm, I won't send it."
"..." Uncle Zhang turned the steering wheel, feeling that something was off.
oh.
He remembered.
On the day the Jing family decided to annul the engagement, Li Mushi said something puzzling in the car—
Am I the kind of person who needs money to be pampered?
Uncle Zhang knows his boss well. He is calm, rational, decisive, and doesn't act on emotion. But his words clearly carried a lot of emotion that he couldn't suppress.
It seems...that matches up.
The car body tilted without anyone noticing.
Li Ying shouted, "Uncle Zhang, watch where you're going! You're crossing the line!"
Uncle Zhang quickly snapped out of his daze and straightened the car.
The car first drove to the Jing family's house.
Seeing that it was Uncle Zhang and Li Ying who brought Jing Ge back, Jing's father smiled with satisfaction: "Why did you have to trouble Mu Shi?"
"Of course," Uncle Zhang said politely. "These gifts were sent by Third Master. He will visit again when he has time."
The gift was understated yet valuable, befitting Mr. Jing's taste.
After everyone left, Jing's father stroked the box of Mother Tree Da Hong Pao tea: "When it comes to dealing with people, their third son is the best, it's just that his attitude isn't approachable enough..."
Jingge felt a sharp pang in his heart; his previously calm emotions turned into extreme agitation because of one sentence.
I can't quite put my finger on whether it's because I'm annoyed by his evaluation of Li Mushi.
She was still annoyed by Li Mushi's evaluation of her.
“The Jing family has already taken a lot of benefits from them,” Jing Ge interrupted him. “They’re not stupid. Let’s stop here!”
