Chapter 2 The Golden List (Part Two)

Yao Niang held a bowl of noodles in her hand, but didn't eat them. She just carefully examined the slender young man in front of her. He was at the age where he was growing taller, and the long gown he had made last year now had its sleeves awkwardly clinging to the middle of Gu Pingsheng's long forearms.

Gu Pingsheng seemed oblivious to everything.

Suddenly inspired, Yao Niang considered her current purse and said, "Big Brother, tonight your mother and I will take your measurements and make you a new set of clothes."

Madam Gu had some reservations, but she didn't say anything.

Gu Pingsheng shook his head repeatedly. His older sister was skilled in everything, even her homemade pastries were more exquisite than others, but her needlework was truly nothing to write home about. Last time, she made him a new outfit, and he was laughed at by his classmates for a long time.

But I can't bear to throw it away.

Judging from today's photos, it seems my sister is thinking about making clothes again. Let's just forget about it!

Madam Gu understood Gu Pingsheng's meaning and chuckled softly, covering her mouth. Gu Yaoniang was both embarrassed and annoyed, but stubbornly insisted, "I embroider all the patterns on my purses myself now!"

"Miss, are you referring to that little fat chicken?" Bitao chimed in from the side.

Yao Niang was furious.

"That's clearly a phoenix! A phoenix!"

The family couldn't stop laughing. The worry in Gu Pingsheng's eyes was also dispelled.

When the evening came, Master Gu returned home from his official duties, his face beaming with undisguised joy.

Seeing her husband's unusually joyful expression, Madam Gu couldn't help but ask curiously, "What good thing has happened?"

Mr. Gu ignored him and walked happily toward the main room, calling out "Yao Niang" repeatedly.

Yao Niang was setting the table with Bi Tao, and Gu Pingsheng occasionally reached out to help Yao Niang arrange the bowls and plates more neatly. Hearing her father return, she picked up a handkerchief draped over the table leg to wipe her hands before straightening up to greet him.

When Mr. Gu saw his son, he gave him a long lecture, instructing Gu Pingsheng on everything he needed to do at Qingyun Academy. Gu Pingsheng was used to his father's nagging, but he was gradually becoming impatient.

Upon seeing this, Mr. Gu became furious: "I haven't even scolded you yet, and you're already getting impatient?"

Gu Pingsheng wanted to speak, but Yao Niang gently tugged at his sleeve. Although reluctant, he held back and remained silent.

"Look at you! You've never been on the right path since you were little. You're always slacking off or teasing the dog! If you could be like my son-in-law and pass the imperial examination for your father, then I won't care about you anymore. You can do whatever you want!" With that, he swept his sleeves and sat down. His previous joy was somewhat dampened by his anger, but then, as if he remembered something happy, his face lit up with boundless joy again.

When Gu Pingsheng heard his father mention Qin Yuxiu, he was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, and his fur immediately bristled.

"What good is Qin Yuxiu's learning! He's nothing but a treacherous, fickle man! Even if I never pass the imperial examinations in this lifetime, I still don't think he's anything special!" His words were filled with unspeakable disgust.

The rest of the Gu family were completely bewildered. Back when Qin Yuxiu was still at Qingyun Academy, Gu Pingsheng loved following her around, always calling her "Brother Qin." When had he ever shown such hostility towards Qin Yuxiu?
