Chapter 25 Practical Benefits (Part 1)

Yao Niang considered her words carefully before speaking: "Second Uncle, Sister Qiao Niang, haven't you two been negotiating prices for a long time?"

Gu Xingzhi and Qiao Niang were both stunned.

They are usually busy and don't have much time to buy things themselves. Even when they occasionally go to shops or restaurants, they either put the bill on the books or pay without asking the price.

When have we ever negotiated the price? It wouldn't be respectable to do so.

Yao Niang received an affirmative answer and smiled smugly.

"When I go to the shop to buy things, I usually bargain with the shopkeeper."

Seeing the silk fan in Qiaoniang's hand, she casually picked it up as an example:

"These are the silk fans. The first shop asked for one tael and two mace of silver for the same two silk fans, but if I bargained, the shopkeeper was willing to sell them to me for one tael of silver; the shopkeeper of the second shop originally only wanted one tael of silver, but he didn't charge me a penny less."

Yao Niang looked at the two of them and asked, "Which shop's silk fan do you think I should buy?"

Qiao Niang blurted out, "Of course, it's the first shop!"

Gu Xingzhi was puzzled: "If they are the same fans and can all be bought for one or two taels of silver, doesn't it matter which store you buy them from?"

He added impatiently, "If it were me, I would buy it at the second shop, so I wouldn't have to go back to the first shop and find that the shopkeeper was trying to raise the price and wouldn't sell it to me for even a tael of silver."

Qiaoniang said, "How can they be the same! Although the same silk fans may look similar, the materials, workmanship, and colors all require careful consideration. The first shopkeeper dared to set a price of one tael and two mace, so he must have something special about him."

Seeing that Gu Xingzhi was about to retort again, Yao Niang quickly said, "Sister Qiao Niang is right!"

Gu Xingzhi retorted, "How can that be reasonable! We've already said they're the same, so why are we considering differences in embroidery and color matching!"

Yao Niang said mysteriously, "Now Second Uncle knows that the two shops sell the same goods. But if you went to the shops yourself, would the shopkeepers tell you this?"
