Chapter 65 Rescue (Part 3)

Li's wife was seriously injured.

The old doctor sitting in the clinic sighed repeatedly, shaking his head as he had his apprentice bandage Lady Li's wounds.

Gu Yaoniang and Bitao waited outside the screen, while the pharmacy's shop assistants secretly watched them.

After a long while, the old doctor finally emerged from behind the screen, wiping his hands.

Yao Niang went up to him: "Doctor, how is she?"

The old doctor sighed before he could speak.

Gu Yaoniang was a little anxious and stepped inside.

The old doctor stood in the doorway, looking at the two of them with some wariness: "Who are you, young lady inside?"

Logically speaking, since he receives payment for medical consultations, he shouldn't be bothered with too many other matters.

The woman inside was seriously injured! She had two broken ribs and both legs were fractured, not to mention the old and new wounds all over her body, which were obviously caused by abuse.

If it had been a moment later, even a god might not have been able to save them.

As a doctor with a compassionate heart, he couldn't help but ask.

"Our lady has bought her!"

The old doctor became even more wary upon hearing this. Good heavens! Are servants not human? Just because they've been bought, does that give them the right to harm people so brazenly? A thousand thoughts raced through his mind.

Seeing the accusatory look in the old doctor's eyes, Gu Yaoniang thought for a moment before understanding his intention.

"Doctor, I met her on the road. I saw that she was badly injured, so I bought her to save her. Please tell me about her condition."

Bitao then realized what was happening, and her face flushed slightly.

Seeing that Yao Niang's concern seemed genuine, the old doctor felt somewhat relieved. Asking such a question was, in a way, fulfilling his responsibility.

He sighed before speaking, and then said, "The patient has broken both legs and two ribs."

Bitao couldn't help but gasp in surprise, and Yaoniang's expression also turned cold and stern.

The old doctor continued, "I've already put on a splint, but the patient can't move yet and will have to stay in this clinic for a while."

"So, your life should be safe?"

The old doctor snorted and stroked his goatee: "Hmph! With me here, you won't die!"

Gu Yaoniang breathed a sigh of relief. It was nothing serious that she needed to recuperate; as long as her life was not in danger, that was all that mattered.

She quickly bowed and said, "Thank you, doctor."

Seeing her humble and polite demeanor, the old doctor's attitude softened further: "However, she is weak and needs the best medicine to recover. She is merely a servant you bought, young lady, are you willing to part with her?"

Practicing medicine and saving lives is a joyful thing, but the injured person was just a servant.

If he goes to great lengths to save the person, expending a great deal of effort and medicine, and this young lady refuses to acknowledge the debt and pay him, then that would be disastrous.

"Not a servant."

Gu Yaoniang shook her head: "I bought her to save her, not to save her. She's not a servant. Don't worry about the money, I won't renege on my debt."

She thought for a moment and then said, "I am the owner of Jinyulou. If I refuse to pay my debts, you are welcome to go to Jinyulou to collect them."

Revealing one's identity is an important way to gain trust.

Upon hearing this, the old doctor was clearly relieved and stepped aside.

Yao Niang then entered the inner room.

The bloodstains on Li's wife's face had been wiped clean, making her face appear even more bloodless.

She was extremely thin, with prominent cheekbones. Lying down with her eyes closed, her chin appeared sharp, as if it could pierce someone.

The injured bone had just been immobilized, and the front of her clothes was slightly open, revealing her somewhat thin shoulders and sharp collarbones.

There were also some crisscrossing bruises, some still bluish-purple, and some already yellowish, clearly old wounds.

Gu Yaoniang sighed softly to herself. This woman must have suffered a lot.

She turned to Bitao and said, "Bitao, you stay and take care of her. The clinic is full of men, and she's unconscious. I'm worried about leaving her here alone."

Bitao nodded vigorously.

Women are always more soft-hearted, and seeing such a scene, they can't help but feel pity.

This Li family lady is so pitiful! Even if the young lady hadn't said anything, I myself would have wanted to stay. It's just that I couldn't say it directly because of my status.

Bitao said softly, "Don't worry, my wife."

But she lowered her voice and said in a tone only the two of them could hear, "This servant is a little afraid of this doctor. He's a bit fierce."

Gu Yaoniang smiled and tapped her forehead: "The old doctor is a good person! We haven't done anything bad, he asked those questions for Li Niangzi's sake."

The little girl's worry turned to joy, and she nodded: "Yes, yes, the doctor is a good person!"

She's simple-minded. The young lady is right; they're all good people. What is she afraid of?

Seeing that things were mostly settled, Gu Yaoniang got up to go home.

The street in front of the clinic was narrow, and it would be inconvenient for Zhao Cai to park on the side of the road. When she entered the clinic, she had already instructed the driver to take Zhao Cai back to the Gu family.

Now that there were no carriages to take people home, they had no choice but to walk.

Fortunately, the clinic wasn't far from the Gu family's house, so it didn't matter.

Bitao reluctantly saw Yaoniang off at the door, but of the two guards Lu Zhaoan had borrowed earlier, only one remained.

Gu Yaoniang was slightly surprised: "Why are you alone? Where's the other little brother?"

The guard blushed slightly, lowered his head, and dared not look at Gu Yaoniang. He replied, "Madam Gu, I will return to report to my master on the eleventh."

"eleven?"

"Yes, he is the eleventh, and his subordinate is the twelfth."

Gu Yaoniang remained silent. Then she nodded, without asking any further questions, and said politely, "Thank you for today. You should go back now and thank your master for me."

The young guard seemed hesitant to speak, so Yao Niang asked, "Is there anything else?"

“Miss Bitao has stayed behind. You are all alone now. If I make you walk back alone, the master will surely blame me.”

Twelve cursed Eleven inwardly for being too slow. He didn't dare let Madam Gu walk home alone, but he was even less likely to take her home by himself.

Gu Yaoniang chuckled, her face as bright as a lotus in spring water, a gentle smile on her lips: "So what? I don't have Bitao by my side every day."

The young guard blushed even more, but stammered and couldn't explain himself clearly, which made Yao Niang find it rather amusing.

His gaze swept over one person, and his smile widened even further.

Upon seeing her gentle smile, the visitor unconsciously returned the smile: "Madam Gu."

He was followed by Eleven, who had just left, and asked her, "Would I have the honor of escorting Lady Gu home?"

Gu Yaoniang looked at Lu Zhaoan in front of her and smiled.

"Is Mr. Lu free today?"

"Something's up."

Gu Yaoniang raised an eyebrow, looked at him without saying a word.

What, something's wrong? Do you need me to take her home?

Lu Zhaoan continued, "I'll take you home."

After a moment of stunned silence, Gu Yaoniang finally came to her senses.

It turns out that taking her home was Lu Zhaoan's job for today.
