Chapter 98 Meeting (Part Two)

The group chatted and laughed all the way as they walked.

Gu Xingzhi walked ahead, introducing the houses and buildings of the Gu residence to Gu Pingsheng.

Bizhu glanced at Gu Pingsheng, considered the matter for a moment, and whispered to Gu Yaoniang, "Madam, do you need me to carry the young master inside?"

Gu Yaoniang suppressed a laugh and whispered, "No need. Don't pay attention to him, and don't look at him."

Then he raised his voice and said, "We've had a tough journey all our lives, let's slow down."

Gu Pingsheng gave his sister a grateful look, but then felt a little embarrassed and walked more cautiously.

Upon arriving at Gu Pingsheng's courtyard, Gu Xingzhi looked around with his hands behind his back, then instructed his servants to purchase some more items for him. After giving Gu Pingsheng some instructions, he and Qiaoniang left.

As soon as the two of them left, Gu Pingsheng's lips trembled, he turned down and called out "Sister" softly, as if he was about to cry from grievance.

Those standing in the room discreetly withdrew. Gu Yaoniang looked at her younger brother, somewhat amused: "Isn't our family's Pingsheng supposed to be quite formidable? What's wrong with him?"

Gu Pingsheng felt even more aggrieved and muttered, "You know perfectly well why I'm asking this."

Gu Yaoniang, however, did not soften her heart. She pointed her index finger at his forehead and scolded, "Serves you right! Didn't your parents hire a carriage for you? Why didn't you ride it? You insisted on riding a horse yourself. It's such a long way. Even soldiers marching at high speed have protective gear. You just ride like this? If you're not in pain, who will?"

Gu Pingsheng retorted, "The money for hiring the carriage can be refunded!"

"So what if you can return it? You didn't have to spend money to buy the horse, did you?"

Gu Pingsheng said smugly, "That's different! The hired carriage took me there, but it was still someone else's carriage. The horses I bought can not only take me to Shuojing, but they're all mine!"

Gu Yaoniang was speechless for a moment, pointing at him and repeatedly saying "you" for a long time, unsure how to reprimand him. Finally, she managed to squeeze out, "Trying to show off your abilities, huh!"

Gu Pingsheng chuckled, his white teeth standing out even more brightly against his darker face.

Gu Yaoniang felt both sorry for her and amused, but then she remembered the money she had sent and couldn't help but ask, "Didn't I send you money? Why are you still so frugal?"

"You can't touch that!" Gu Pingsheng hurriedly waved his hand. "My parents said that's my second uncle's money!"

Gu Yaoniang paused for a moment: "That's what I earned!"

Gu Pingsheng insisted, "Father and Mother said we can't covet Uncle's property. Sister, it's fine that you work in Uncle's business. The money Uncle gave you is for you. Our family can't accept it. Father and Mother have saved up all the money you sent back, saying it's for your future dowry."

Gu Yaoniang was a little angry: "What do you mean by 'Second Uncle's,' 'Yours,' and 'Mine'! Are you treating Second Uncle and me like outsiders because we're family?"

Gu Pingsheng shook his head vigorously: "Of course not!"

He also felt that his parents were separating themselves too clearly, but it was definitely not as his sister said, treating them like outsiders.

Gu Yaoniang realized that she had gone too far in her haste, and she felt a little discouraged. She murmured, "I just felt that if Second Uncle is good to us, and we always carefully refuse, we are the ones who really hurt Second Uncle's feelings."

She looked at Gu Pingsheng and said earnestly, "Pingsheng, Second Uncle has no children of his own, but he treats us like his own children."

You don't know, when you went to Hualing Academy, your second uncle said it was because the headmaster owed him a favor, so he just slipped you in. But this favor was something your second uncle had gone to great lengths to get Headmaster Liu to owe.

My second uncle may not say it, but he loves us all very much. He's also very attentive to my parents. Although I don't know what misunderstanding my second uncle and father had in the past, the brothers have hardly contacted each other for years.

But you see, Dad trusts Second Uncle completely, and Second Uncle also cares about the family. In life, family is about giving to each other and always feeling indebted to one another. Think about it, if you wanted to do something for your parents, but they always refused, wouldn't you be sad?

Being too calculating can be hurtful.

Her expression was solemn, and Gu Pingsheng was somewhat stunned.

He also realized that Gu Yaoniang was talking about her second uncle, but wasn't she also talking about herself?

Gu Pingsheng nodded seriously.

Gu Yaoniang chuckled softly, took out a small porcelain jar from her sleeve, and handed it to Gu Pingsheng: "Here~ your thigh must hurt a lot, right?"

Gu Pingsheng blushed, and Gu Yaoniang leaned forward with a mischievous smile: "Who told you to ride a horse!"

Gu Pingsheng stubbornly insisted, "Riding a horse is cool!"

Gu Yaoniang nodded knowingly: "Alright, then it seems there should be no problem. Here's a bottle of my skin-regenerating ointment..."

She clicked her tongue twice, her face beaming with delight: "I'll keep it for myself. Oh dear, I didn't expect to worry for nothing."

Gu Pingsheng quickly snatched it away.

Although he didn't know how effective the muscle-regenerating ointment was, judging from the name and Gu Yaoniang's expression, it was clearly very effective for the new wounds on the inside of his thighs.

We can't let pride prevent us from getting such a good thing.

Gu Yaoniang laughed out loud when she saw how much he cherished her.

Gu Pingsheng glared at her. Gu Yaoniang feigned surprise and exclaimed softly, "Oh dear! The puppy is baring its teeth!"

Gu Pingsheng simply stopped paying attention to her.

A brief silence fell over the room. After a few moments, the two looked at each other and smiled.

"That's wonderful, sister."

"Yes, that's great."

"Sister, is Shuojing fun?"

Gu Pingsheng asked curiously.

Gu Yaoniang thought for a moment, but did not answer. Instead, she said in a low voice, "Go and see for yourself, and you will know."

Gu Pingsheng nodded.

"Sister, let's take good care of Second Uncle from now on. When I become successful, let's bring our parents to Shuojing."

Gu Yaoniang smiled and replied, "Okay. Let's work together to bring our parents to Shuojing in the future."
