Chapter 400 Zhou Jingxing's Side Story (1/2)

In the two weeks leading up to her due date, Yuan Jiang's belly was already as big as a drum, and her movements became increasingly slow and difficult; she was carrying twins.

Zhou Jingxing lived in constant fear, so much so that he didn't want to go to work. He clung to Yuan Jiang like a leech, his heartstrings stretched to the limit.

That night, Zhou Jingxing couldn't fall asleep no matter what he tried. He stared at the dark ceiling with his eyes open, his heart pounding like a drum. All he could hear was Yuan Jiang's long, soothing breaths, and then a soft moan.

"Honey, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Or did your water break?" Zhou Jingxing jumped up, staring at her anxiously.

"Ugh..." Yuan Jiang was annoyed by the noise. She raised her hand to rub her eyes and looked at Zhou Jingxing with sleepy eyes. Just as she was about to tease him for his big reaction, suddenly, a clear and regular tightness spread throughout her body. Her expression froze, and the two little things in her belly seemed to move.

She swallowed hard, her breathing becoming erratic. As the third wave of contractions came, she reached out and grabbed Zhou Jingxing's arm: "Honey, I think I'm going into labor."

"She's giving birth?!" Zhou Jingxing's voice was as taut as a fully drawn bowstring. He immediately turned on the lights, scooped Yuan Jiang up in his arms with a steady grip, and strode out. At the entrance to the stairs, he called out, "Mom and Dad! My wife is giving birth!"

"She's about to give birth!?" Mr. and Mrs. Zhou rushed out of the room instantly, each carrying a suitcase.

There was no sign of tension on Zhou's mother's face, only focused calmness. She glanced at her son, who was so nervous he was about to cry, and cursed him inwardly for being so useless. Then she methodically arranged everything.

Upon entering the hospital, Yuan Jiang was immediately taken to the delivery room.

Thanks to the various pills provided by the system, Yuan Jiang didn't feel any pain during contractions. In fact, she felt so comfortable that she almost wanted to sleep. However, in order not to appear too unusual, she pretended to cry out in pain twice.

"Jiang Jiang, have some chocolate milk so you'll have energy when you give birth." Zhou's mother took out the food she had prepared and fed it to Yuan Jiang. She then turned to Jing Xing and said, "Jing Xing, go buy some of Jiang Jiang's favorite foods. Eat your fill now, but she can't eat anything indiscriminately for at least a month after giving birth."

"Dad, here's the list. Go buy it. I need to stay with my wife." Zhou Jingxing took a piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to his father, his face tense.

Zhou's father left silently, and half an hour later returned carrying seven or eight food boxes, which he placed around Yuan Jiang. Zhou's mother fed Yuan Jiang milk, fed her solid food, and Zhou Jingxing massaged Yuan Jiang's legs...

Yuan Jiang was only responsible for eating and drinking, and occasionally letting out a couple of screams.

Four hours later, Yuan Jiang's cervix was fully dilated, and she was wheeled into the delivery room.

Zhou Jingxing's heart clenched, and his eyes immediately reddened. He was extremely anxious, pacing back and forth in the hospital corridor with heavy and hurried steps. His fists clenched and unclenched repeatedly, and he almost bit his thin lips until they bled. His eyes were fixed on the door of the delivery room, wishing he could rush in and give birth to the baby himself!

Mr. Zhou glanced at him and said, "Can you stop spinning? It's making me dizzy."

Zhou Jingxing pretended not to hear, his body and mind becoming increasingly tense.

Time stretched on endlessly in the agonizing wait, and Zhou Jingxing was almost in tears: "Mom, why isn't my wife making a sound?"

"She cried out twice in the labor room, but why didn't she cry out when she entered the delivery room?"

"Has something happened to my wife?"

Zhou's mother became a little nervous after Zhou Jingxing kept talking about her: "It should be alright, right? If there were any problems, the doctor would have come out already."

“Your aunt delivered your wife’s baby. She’s one of the top obstetricians and gynecologists in China. Don’t worry.” Mr. Zhou said gravely.

Suddenly, the door was pushed open.

Two nurses came out, each carrying a small baby, beaming with smiles: "Congratulations, it's twins, a boy and a girl."

"The older brother came out first, and the younger sister was two minutes later."

"Both children are very healthy."

Zhou Jingxing didn't even glance at her: "Where's my wife? Why hasn't she come out yet? Is she in a lot of pain? Can I go in?"

"The mother needs to be observed for a while longer. Would you like to check on the baby first?" The nurse smiled.

Zhou Jingxing glanced at it, his gaze somewhat indifferent.

Mr. and Mrs. Zhou exchanged a glance and then stepped forward to hug the two children. They each weighed five pounds, had very fair skin, but their faces were wrinkled, making them look like little old men and women.

"Jingxing, have you and Jiangjiang named them?" Zhou's mother asked.

Zhou Jingxing: "The boy's name is Zhou Jianhuai, and the girl's name is Zhou Yuanwan."

Three hours later, the single ward was filled with the faint smell of disinfectant. Yuan Jiang lay exhausted on the bed, her face pale and fragile, her sweaty hair sticking to her cheeks, and her breathing long and deep.

Zhou Jingxing sat on the edge of the bed, holding her hand tightly, his brows furrowed with unease and worry, his gaze fixed intently on her face.

Yuan Jiang didn't actually feel much pain, but the exhaustion in her body was real. She slept for a while before slowly waking up. When she met Zhou Jingxing's reddened eyes, she was slightly taken aback, then chuckled and asked, "Why are you crying?"

"Wife..." Zhou Jingxing's lips moved slightly, his long black eyelashes trembling. He leaned down and hugged her, nuzzling his head against her neck. "Does it still hurt?"
