The timer on Zhao Lei's foot was flashing seconds rapidly, clearly counting down.
Zhou Yun was startled and quickly stepped forward to help Fang Chengjin up, dragging him away. "He still has a bomb on his foot!" Zhou Yun shouted at Lin Long.
Lin Long immediately led his teammates to handcuff Zhao Lei, while his colleagues who were disarming the bomb also pulled out tools to mitigate the risk of explosion.
Zhao Lei was in excruciating pain; his wrist, which had been pierced, was bleeding profusely. "My hand..."
**
Zhou Yun helped Fang Chengjin to the tree and sat him on a stone bench.
"Your hand is injured." Zhou Yun frowned, glancing at his raised left hand out of the corner of her eye, and felt a pang of heartache.
The five fingers were fair and straight, with slightly protruding veins, and there was a scrape on the wrist where a layer of skin had been peeled off.
Fang Chengjin didn't care about the injury; it was just a minor cut.
Unexpectedly, Zhou Yun got up and went to Pan Xiaoxia, who was standing next to her, to ask for some ointment and bandage strips.
Xia is a forensic doctor, so her toolbox always contains medicines.
When Zhou Yun returned, she half-squatted down in front of Fang Chengjin, took the medicine bottle, mixed it with a cotton swab, and then took it out.
She looked up, her tone a little cold, "Hands."
Fang Chengjin subconsciously reached out his hand, "I...I'm fine."
Zhou Yun grabbed his hand without any tenderness and then carefully applied the ointment little by little.
A slight stinging sensation in his hand, but Fang Cheng remained expressionless as he stared at the woman before him, a hint of pleasure gradually appearing in his eyes.
He sniffed, inhaling the scent emanating from Zhou Yun as she approached.
**
In that spacious and bright classroom, she stood on the podium, exuding righteousness and with a serious expression.
Zhou Yun, she said her name was Zhou Yun, and she was the squad leader of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau. She really wanted to study criminal psychology and wanted to become his graduate student.
Fang Cheng had only glanced at her written test paper; among the ten people, her answers were actually quite average.
But she is different.
Fang Chengjin was also unprecedentedly recruiting students, and he only planned to take one. Therefore, he cared more about whether they were suitable for him. These were all students with a foundation; he didn't care how smart anyone was, since none of them were as smart as him. Therefore, his evaluation criteria were somewhat different at the time.
Of the ten people, only Zhou Yun's scent was pleasant to him; his nose really liked Zhou Yun.
Fresh, elegant, and fragrant.
Like an aromatherapy product, it can calm him down.
This is really strange; this is the first time Fang Chengjin has ever met someone like this.
**
Fortunately, the bomb wasn't a highly sophisticated device, and the detonation wire was quickly removed, averting the crisis. Zhao Lei was then taken to a police car, and the matter was considered closed.
Lin Long breathed a sigh of relief; whether anything happened or not, another day had passed peacefully.
Lin Long looked at the two people under the tree, Zhou Yun bandaging Fang Chengjin's wound. "Oh ho, your brother's injured. These two seem to get along quite well."
Lin Long walked over, breaking the tension between the two, "Another case solved."
"It's not over yet." Fang Cheng raised his eyelids slightly, his tone indifferent.
"We need to check Zhao Lei's residence. Zhao Lei couldn't possibly have committed this series of crimes."
Lin Long nodded, agreeing. Zhao Lei wasn't highly educated; if he wanted to kill someone out of spite, he wouldn't have gone to such lengths. So he immediately sent people to Zhao Lei's dormitory to look for clues, then found a police car, picked up Zhou Yun and Fang Chengjin, and took them back to the Yau Ma Tei Police Station for Zhao Lei's final trial.
**
Half an hour later.
Fang Chengjin put on a mask when he left the scenic area and wore it all the way to the police station, covering half of his face, revealing only a pair of narrow, cool, and serious eyes.
Before Zhou Yun could even begin to suspect anything, Lin Long, as if he could read her mind, began to whisper in hushed tones.
"This person is a bit sick. He usually wears a mask because he says the smell of people is too strong. He only takes it off when he goes to a crime scene to smell the smell of the dead and the murderer. This illness is also very uncomfortable."
Zhou Yun was slightly surprised, but quickly understood. She now almost accepted that Fang Chengjin could indeed solve cases with his nose; she had been somewhat skeptical before, but now she had seen it for herself.
"Wouldn't that be very uncomfortable if it amplified all kinds of tastes?" Zhou Yun asked.
Lin Long shrugged and nodded, his meaning clear, a hint of heartache in his eyes. As a longtime friend, Lin Long admired Fang Chengjin, but also felt sorry for him.
**
The three entered the police station, and before they could even rest, Lin Long led them to the interrogation room.
Inside, Zhao Lei was already detained. He was dejected and powerless, his face pale.
Lin Long and Fang Cheng sat opposite him, while Zhou Yun stood and observed everything.
Lin Long stood up and walked to Zhao Lei's table. He bent his index finger and tapped the edge of the table. "Confess. Why did you kill him?"
Zhao Lei didn't look up at them. He kept his head down and muttered, "Kill them if you want. They all deserve to die."
Lin Long frowned. "A beast like you is a rare sight."
Zhao Lei chuckled.
Fang Chengjin suddenly spoke up, "Your daughter is missing, your wife ran off with someone else, and you have a terminal illness. You have only yourself to blame. Who else can you blame?"
Zhao Lei's face changed instantly, turning ferocious, as if a sore spot had been hit. He suddenly stood up and tried to grab Fang Chengjin, but Lin Long grabbed him by the back of his collar and pulled him against the back of the chair, slamming him hard. Zhao Lei hissed in pain.
**
After a while.
A voice came through Lin Long's earphones, "Boss, Zhao Lei is living in a single room in an abandoned apartment. The whole room only has a bed and an old-fashioned computer. We found something on the computer!"
Lin Long's phone rang a few times; someone had sent him a message.
Lin Long glanced down and frowned slightly. Then he called Fang Chengjin and Zhou Yun outside. The three of them went to the door, where there was a small window. With the door closed, they could see Zhao Lei inside through the window.
Lin Long said, "Our people found traces of a connection to the dark web on Zhao Lei's desktop computer. He even took a screenshot of a message about live-streaming a murder game."
As he spoke, Lin Long took out his phone and zoomed in on the screenshot his colleague had sent him.
Fang Cheng glanced at him, his gaze turning slightly cold. "This is the buyer. Can you find out who's behind him?"
Lin Long opened another chat screenshot. "We sent technicians over, but they could only find some records between the two in the encrypted chat software. They can't find anything else yet. It seems that the person behind it was prepared and had already eliminated all traces."
Zhou Yun carefully examined the chat history screenshots and said, "It was premeditated. Zhao Lei was probably used. Moreover, in the conversation between the two, this netizen named dark kept enticing Zhao Lei to transfer his resentment to others."
......
Lin Long shuddered. "Isn't this just giving a lot of emotional value? It's PUA Zhao Lei, but a more advanced one."
Zhou Yun sighed, "What Zhao Lei probably lacks most is comfort from others. He's almost fifty years old, and an earlier survey showed that the psychological needs of middle-aged and elderly people are extremely strong. Having gone through so many hardships, the fact that Zhao Lei still so easily believes this Dark who deliberately manipulates people's emotions shows that he really needs psychological treatment."
Fang Cheng said coldly, "Emotional value is justified if it exists. But it should not be used as an excuse to indiscriminately kill innocent people."
**
Lin Long opened the door, and the three of them walked back into the interrogation room.
Fang Chengjin did not sit down this time, but stood up and looked down at Zhao Lei.
"Who is Dark?"
Zhao Lei remained silent.
Zhou Yun couldn't help but retort: "Your daughter is missing, and you hate yourself. But do you know that the three people you killed were all parents with daughters! They were just like you! You've become the very human trafficker you once hated most. You killed your own daughter!" The dragon slayer has become the dragon himself!
Zhao Lei's face turned even paler. He swayed unsteadily, head bowed, too afraid to lift his head, his body rocking back and forth.
"I don't know who he is... When I came to my senses, I realized I had killed someone... I didn't know what I was doing, I just felt pain all over my body, my stomach hurt the most... I didn't want to kill... but I hate it so much... I hate it so much..."
Zhao Lei curled up, clutching his head, his body trembling. He said many times that he hated, but he couldn't say who he hated. "I miss my daughter so much... so much..." he murmured, sobbing.
Zhou Yun wanted to step forward and say something, but Fang Chengjin stopped her, blocking her way. "Let's go," he said casually, not wanting to look back at Zhao Lei.
The case is closed. He came to interrogate Zhao Lei only to get some information about the person behind it all. But now it seems that the murderer behind it is even more ruthless and cunning than Zhao Lei. Zhao Lei was just a pawn.
Who would let the chess pieces know who is playing the game?
