34 Buddha's Eye
The story begins on that day, a rainy day, a month after she was sent to the hospital to treat her eyes. On that day, her vision regained a little clarity, but only a little.
As the nurse helped her back to her room, a cleaning lady called out to her.
"Miss, is this yours? I found this under my pillow when I was tidying up my pillowcases. At first glance, it looked like something I didn't want, but I'm not sure if it's something you hid under your pillow, so I'm asking you."
The aunt handed over a handkerchief, on which were two broken nail stickers.
Xia Yi didn't realize what it was at first; she just touched it and found it hard and cold.
The nurse next to her spoke up, "These are nail stickers, Miss Xia. You don't seem to have a habit of getting manicures."
Nail stickers?
Xia Yi found it strange that there was something under her pillow.
Xia Yi picked up the nail sticker and brought it close to her eyes to examine it closely. She looked and looked, and in the blurry light, she could only make out that it was a pink nail polish.
Nail art... Xia Yi suddenly smelled a perfume scent. She was familiar with the scent because Xia Xue often wore perfume.
Xia Xue is her older sister, and her sister is very different from her. Xia Yi is beautiful and flamboyant, but her behavior is very pure and conservative; she doesn't even wear nail polish.
Xia Xue is different. She looks ordinary, but she loves to dress up and put on makeup. She even changes her manicure every month.
My sister's manicure?
Xia Yi felt strange. She suddenly remembered that when her sister brought her to the hospital earlier, she was supported by her sister. It was raining heavily that day, and she probably accidentally fell off the bed.
She has been sleeping in this bed for a month, and the sheets and blankets have not been changed.
The nurse then asked, "Do you need me to take it out and throw it away for you?"
Xia Yi shook her head. "No need."
Xia Yi sat on the bed, her whole body trembling. Suddenly, she remembered what the police had said earlier. Another veteran detective had mentioned to her that because her eyes were contaminated with contact lenses, the most likely method of committing the crime was through someone nearby who could access the contact lens case. The detective also mentioned that the case contained an additional ingredient—something used for manicures.
The detective once asked Xia Yi if she had gotten her nails done.
Xia Yi's face turned pale instantly, and her hands trembled. "Nurse..."
The nurse next to her noticed that her complexion was off and exclaimed in surprise, "What's wrong?"
"Could you help me check if there's anything under this manicure?"
......
It was later confirmed that the manicure did indeed contain substances that could cause blindness.
Xia Yi was in a daze for a few days before finally withdrawing the case.
Because she couldn't sue her sister, and she knew why Xia Xue did it—because of Zhou Yiming.
On the night the case was decided to be dropped, Xia Yi sat on the bed in the hospital room all night.
Her life was already basically ruined, so why would she want to ruin her sister's life too?
Later, she returned to Huaihai, far away from Xia Xue's social circle.
She placed the manicure inside the Buddha statue, hoping that one day Xia Xue would repent to her.
I just didn't expect it.
She didn't wait for that day; instead, she met Fang Chengjin and Zhou Yun.
She learned again that Jiang Huai was in trouble.
It's Zhou Yiming again.
That day, Jiang Huai called Xia Yi specifically to warn her not to have any more bad thoughts, as Zhou Yiming was her husband.
Xia Yi then realized that Xia Xue had been using her name to maintain contact with Zhou Yiming, and had even deliberately obscured school matters during her live streams.
After making the phone call, Jiang Huai was murdered.
Xia Yi had a vague feeling that Xia Xue was responsible, so a few days later, she called Xia Xue to ask her for clarification.
She found Xia Xue to be terrifying.
Because of one man, he kept harming people.
On the day of the negotiation, Xia Yi told Xia Xue that she knew it was her sister who had done the wrong thing. The police came to the door, and she didn't even have time to accuse her sister.
Xia Xue ended up in prison.
......
When Xia Yi came out of the police station, the sky had cleared up, and the dazzling light made her feel that everything around her was golden.
"Miss Xia, let me take you home." Zhou Yun followed her out, watching her solitary figure from behind, and couldn't help but speak.
“You don’t need to refuse; this is also my way of serving the people,” Zhou Yun said, stepping forward.
Xia Yi sighed and gave a slight smile. "Thank you, Officer Zhou."
"What are your plans for the future?" Zhou Yun asked.
Xia Yi's tone was firm: "Let's start over."
Zhou Yun nodded, also letting out a sigh of relief.
......
After dropping Xia Yi off and returning home, Zhou Yun received a message from Lin Long via the "Green Bubble" feature.
"Captain Zhou, come join us for a meal!"
Lin Long sent me an address along with a few cheeky and cute emojis.
At nine o'clock in the evening, Zhou Yun walked through Wellington Street and searched for a while before finally finding the small bar hidden among the crowded shops.
The entrance is simple yet not shabby. The floor-to-ceiling windows are either transparent or frosted. Unlike other bars with their colorful lights, this small, quiet bar is bathed in a warm yellow light. The exterior walls of the bar are also entirely black, without a single extra color.
Zhou Yun pushed open the door, and the wind chimes hanging above the door rang out with a clear and melodious sound, as if announcing to the shopkeeper that a customer had arrived.
The bar is right inside the entrance, where a young bartender is holding a glass and swirling it around. The bartender doesn't give Zhou Yun much of a response, perhaps because he's used to customers coming in.
As soon as Zhou Yun entered, she smelled a mixture of sake and cigarette smoke in the air. It wasn't strong, but it wasn't pungent either.
There weren't many people in the bar's main hall; at a glance, there were about thirty people. Compared to other crowded bars, this bar's sales figures didn't seem very impressive.
Because she had seen Xia Yi off, Zhou Yun didn't have time to go home to change her clothes. She was wearing a snow-white cotton and linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up at the elbows, revealing a small section of her fair and slender arms. She wore straight washed denim jeans and had her hair tied in a high ponytail. She looked elegant and tall.
She may not be as alluring and sexy as a glamorous woman, but she's still eye-catching; she's definitely a beauty.
A short man with a ponytail stepped forward. "Beautiful lady, looking for someone?"
Perhaps seeing Zhou Yun looking around, he couldn't help but go up and strike up a conversation.
Before Zhou Yun could reply, a voice came from not far away.
"Captain Zhou, over here!"
It's Lin Long's voice.
Zhou Yun glanced over, and Lin Long walked towards her.
Lin Long changed into a different outfit today, dressed in a hip-hop trendy style, with his hair styled with a little mousse, giving it a three-dimensional and stylish look.
He walked up to Zhou Yun without even glancing at the short man, but the man immediately became frightened, "Boss Lin."
After giving a greeting, he immediately retreated.
Lin Long scratched his head and said in a somewhat flamboyant manner, "It's just an unprofitable business, it's just for friends to come and have fun."
Zhou Yun finally realized that Lin Long was indeed a rich second-generation. With so much money, why would he be a policeman? He must be out of his mind.
"What? You've got your eye on me?" Lin Long chuckled.
Zhou Yun smiled, a half-smile, "I don't love money."
Lin Long sighed sadly, "Let's go, they're all inside."
Lin Long led Zhou Yun through the hall to a private room on the second floor. The corridor was a bit narrow, and it looked... Zhou Yun frowned.
Lin Long walked ahead, looked back, and saw Zhou Yun looking around. He laughed and said, "Hey, Captain Zhou, you're here on my turf and you're still looking around. Don't worry, I won't break the law here. I don't do any shady business. I only have two businesses here: drinking and singing."
Zhou Yun frowned and stopped in front of a pile of styrofoam. "I'm worried about your fire safety. You should deal with this quickly. This is against the rules. You've put this flammable material at the stairwell. If it catches fire, it will block the escape route."
Lin Long sighed and rubbed his forehead.
Amidst their chatter, Lin Long led Zhou Yun into the private room inside.
The private room was quite elegant, with carved wood tables and chairs all around. It was spacious and bright. The first thing Zhou Yun noticed when she entered was Fang Chengjin sitting on the far side.
He was slightly bent over, and none of his colleagues dared to get too close to him; they all kept a distance from him.
