60. A torrential rainstorm hits the village on the night of the storm.
After closing the door, Fang Chengjin walked to the central air conditioner in the room, looked up, moved a chair over, stepped on it, and saw some fine powder in the gaps of the air conditioner.
I sniffed it closer, but couldn't detect any smell.
Fang Cheng knew that his nose had stopped working again.
He got off the chair, went to the bathroom to get a large towel, and stuffed it into the gap of the central air conditioner. Back in the bathroom, he took a hot shower, and half an hour later, Fang Chengjin came out and lay directly on the large bed, his hair still damp.
He closed his eyes and stopped turning on the air conditioner. The warmth around him gradually cooled down, and even the torrential rain outside the window became more and more violent, with banging sounds that made it impossible to hear any other sounds.
Fang Chengjin tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He lay there for less than ten minutes before opening his eyes, getting up, grabbing a coat, and heading out.
He closed the door, and a gust of cold wind blew through. The corridor was quiet at this moment, and the warm lights hanging high on the wall swayed in the wind.
Fang Cheng quietly went to room number one and then closed the door.
Turning around to look at the empty room and smelling the familiar scent, Fang Chengjin finally felt at ease.
He sighed deeply, then pounded his head in regret. After a few seconds, he went to the bathroom to get a large towel, stepped onto a chair, stuffed the gap in the air conditioner, and then walked towards the bed. He threw himself onto the bed and buried his face in the pillow.
Immediately, upon smelling the familiar scent, Fang Chengjin relaxed completely.
He gradually drifted off to sleep amidst this worry.
Bang, bang, bang.
The sound of rain outside was still very strong, as if the guesthouse had become a bowl, receiving rainwater from all directions.
A figure gradually emerged from the rain, with a petite figure and striking, dignified features.
"Fang Chengjin, save me! Save me!"
Zhou Yun's face became clearer. She was dressed in black, and two men in black suddenly appeared on either side of her, grabbed her hands, and dragged her backward, as if to drag her into an endless waterfall.
Fang Cheng ran forward, but lost his footing and fell off the cliff.
The equation was carefully drawn, and the pupils trembled.
The sound of rain subsided, leaving only the gentle patter of raindrops.
Fang Chengjin suddenly opened his eyes. He was still lying on the bed in room number one. It was pitch black in front of him, with only a little bit of light from outside the window illuminating the room.
Outside, the torrential rain lashed against the windowpanes, the sound deafening. The entire room seemed to be filled only with the force of the rain, with no other sound.
Strangely, the quieter the space became, with only the sound of rain, the more Fang Chengjin's five senses seemed to be amplified, and he could hear the slightest rustling of wind.
There was a bang—the sound of the door closing.
Fang Cheng frowned and subconsciously glanced at his phone screen; it was 2 a.m.
It looked like something was being dragged away.
He listened for a while, and then the sounds outside stopped.
Fang Cheng gripped the doorknob and slowly turned the knob to open the door.
The corridor was pitch black, and the wall lights were out for some reason. The only light in the entire corridor was a closed glass window at the end, which was also shrouded in shadow.
Fang Chengjin merely leaned slightly forward, glancing sideways into the corridor, trying to sense if anyone was there.
He didn't leave the room even a step.
He listened intently, but unfortunately, he heard nothing.
There wasn't even any particularly unpleasant smell in the air...
He swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing. After thinking for a dozen seconds, he turned away and refused to go out.
In the instant he turned around, he vaguely felt a warm flow coming out of his nose.
His nose started acting up again. Strangely, a moment after the blood started flowing, his nose seemed to clear up, and a strong smell of blood filled the air.
Fang Chengjin paused, not closing the door. He couldn't tell whether the smell of blood was outside or coming from his own nose.
After a few seconds of pause, just as he was about to respond, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in the back of his head.
With a muffled thud, he was knocked unconscious.
Night is finally coming.
**
My head feels heavy, but I am conscious.
Hearing the call, Zhou Yun slowly opened her eyes from the mist.
The pale sky, tinged with light blue, was illuminated by the passing of night. Urgent and worried shouts came from nearby.
Is it a formulaic one? Zhou Yun wondered.
As the gaze zoomed in, a magnified bronze face appeared before my eyes, a handsome and well-proportioned face.
Zhou Yun felt relieved. She only felt a sore throat and coughed as she got up. The dizziness gradually subsided.
"How are you feeling?" Lin Long frowned as he helped Zhou Yun up.
Zhou Yun looked up and found herself at the foot of the mountain, with a familiar straight road in front of her. The bus she had been on earlier had stopped here, and she could even recall the butler waiting for her here.
At this moment, there were three police cars on the main road, each with five or six police officers standing guard beside it. Lin Long and Da Huang were with her.
Upon hearing this, Lin Long's worries deepened.
He couldn't help but ask, "How did you end up here?"
Zhou Yun replied, "Professor Fang brought me to a guesthouse on this mountain for team building. I remember I was sleeping in the guesthouse's hotel room, how could this be?"
Zhou Yun herself was confused, and she kept recalling what happened before she went to bed last night.
Lin Long immediately asked, "Where did Lao Fang go?"
Zhou Yun was also startled. "They should still be in that guesthouse, but I don't know what happened..."
Lin Long immediately instructed Da Huang: "Go and call Xia Xia over so we can give her a check-up."
Although Xia is a forensic doctor, she has a medical background and can also treat patients and make diagnoses in her daily life.
Da Huang immediately made a phone call.
Zhou Yun couldn't help but ask, "Inspector Lin, why are you here?"
Lin Long's gaze turned serious: "The criminal investigation department is currently working with Haishi to apprehend a pair of murderers, one male and one female. They specialize in kidnapping and killing wealthy second-generation individuals for ransom. Two major cases have already occurred in Haishi, involving a total of ten million. According to intelligence from three days ago, the murderers have arrived in Hong Kong Island. They changed their names and joined a tour group. We immediately contacted the intelligence department and came here. I think those two killers were in the tour group you and Lao Fang were in."
As he spoke, Lin Long took out two photos from his pocket.
Zhou Yun looked closely and realized that there were two people in each of the two photos, but they were different people.
Lin Long continued, "Both of these murderers were medical students. They were skilled in plastic surgery, and they would have facial surgery after each crime. The hospital had no records of them. All we could find in Haishi was that they did buy some trauma medication from some pharmacies, and photos of their faces from the two previous incidents. As for the third one, we didn't get a clear picture of their faces. We only found out they had signed up for a tour group because their ID information hadn't been updated yet. Do you remember them?"
The images of the people on the bus flashed through Zhou Yun's mind.
The people in the two photos are quite different. The first photo, featuring a man and a woman, is unremarkable and easily overlooked. The only difference is that the woman is shorter than the man. The second photo, however, shows a man and a woman who look rather fierce. The woman has a high ponytail and a star sticker on her left cheek, while the man has a buzz cut and handsome features.
Zhou Yun began, "Besides Professor Fang and me, there was a couple, a pair of lovers, a female internet celebrity who works in social media, Director Chen, and the driver in the car. The driver didn't go to the guesthouse with us, and it's hard to say whether the two of them were working together from the inside or outside. We can check where the driver is now and his license plate number..."
Zhou Yun closed her eyes and thought for a moment, then tried to open her phone to check, only to find that it wasn't with her.
"It should be B9876. The driver was wearing a dark blue down jacket and a knitted round hat."
Lin Long immediately ordered Da Huang to investigate the matter.
Zhou Yun continued, "The path up the mountain is hard to find. When Professor Fang and I went up the mountain, the housekeeper led us up, but I have no recollection of it. If we are to search, splitting up to search would probably waste more time. We might need to use helicopters to search the entire mountain area."
Lin Long shook his head, looking at the increasingly dark sky, a look of worry rising in his eyes: "It's too late. On our way here, we received the latest news from the bureau that a super typhoon and rainstorm are coming to this area. We have limited police officers and cannot go up the mountain one by one. If we want to fly, we can only do so after the rainstorm has passed."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a strong gust of wind swept by, whipping everyone's clothes into the air, and the earthy smell of a downpour filled the air.
Zhou Yun's heart sank.
Lin Long said worriedly, "I'm more worried about Lao Fang right now. He must have sensed that something is wrong. There must be someone those two assassins are after in the guesthouse, otherwise they wouldn't have followed us here."
Zhou Yun immediately thought of someone, "Huo Xu, I introduced him before, he's a rich second-generation from Hong Kong, he also stays at that guesthouse."
Lin Long: "That's it. Sigh, Lao Fang's fighting ability is not good. I'm afraid that even if he finds out the truth, he won't be able to do anything to the two criminals."
Zhou Yun felt a growing anxiety, but as Lin Long had said, the storm was approaching, and there was nothing she could do.
Zhou Yun had no choice but to set up camp nearby with Lin Long and the others, and return to the car to wait for the storm to pass if necessary.
After waiting all morning, Pan Xiaoxia arrived in another police car. As soon as she got out of the car, a torrential downpour began outside.
Zhou Yun peeked out from the car in front and beckoned her over.
The police car immediately drove up to the car in front and stopped next to it. Pan Xiaoxia got out of the car and jumped directly into Zhou Yun's police car.
Lin Long and another police officer were also in the car.
After getting into the car, Pan Xiaoxia conducted a test on Zhou Yun. After a while, the test was completed, and Pan Xiaoxia replied: "Captain Zhou, you should have been drugged. The test showed that there was a trace amount of bitter apricot in your body. Now that the drug's effects have worn off, you must have ingested a large amount of drug before."
Lin Long frowned: "Could it be that the murderers have already started their operation? But why would they transport you back to the foot of the mountain?"
Zhou Yun was equally puzzled.
But before she could think further, Zhou Yun asked, "When will this typhoon pass?"
Lin Long shook his head: "It's hard to say. According to the weather bureau, it will last for at least two days. We will send people to keep watch 24 hours a day. Once the rain stops, we will start helicopters to search the mountains."
Zhou Yun paused, remained silent for a moment, and then, looking at the increasingly violent storm outside the car window, she said, "I'll go with you."
Lin Long raised an eyebrow. "Worried about Lao Fang?"
Lin Long's tone was somewhat sarcastic, and Zhou Yun avoided eye contact.
Seeing this, Lin Long was secretly pleased. His brother, who had been single for decades, was finally about to find love!
