Chapter 9. I can't sleep well if I sleep with you.

Chapter 9. I can't sleep well if I sleep with you.

Two years and eleven months after that reconciliation text message went unanswered, Nan Zhiyi optimistically discovered that perhaps there was still a possibility that they could become friends again.

At least for now, it seems that You Xin doesn't dislike himself.

You Xin prepared three dishes and a soup: scrambled eggs with tomatoes, cola chicken wings, stir-fried pork, and a three-delicacy soup. Although simple, it was a feast for the eyes, nose, and palate.

Who would bother to cook three dishes and a soup for someone they dislike?

Although he didn't know why the other person hadn't replied to a single message from him all these years if they didn't dislike him.

Nan Zhiyi once came across a tweet asking if people would still be willing to be friends with their exes. His answer was a resounding "yes"—although he only had one ex as a reference. It's just a breakup, not some irreconcilable feud; wouldn't it be better to go back to how things were before?

But clearly, You Xin's answer to this question is "no".

So sometimes Nan Zhiyi wonders if he should never have started this relationship in the first place.

So at least they'll still be friends.

-

The scrambled eggs with tomatoes were sweet, very sweet, with plenty of sugar, which suited Nan Zhiyi's taste perfectly.

When people get hungry, they don't care about being embarrassed. He added several spoonfuls to his bowl, finished half a bowl of rice in one go, and looked up to find that the person opposite him didn't seem to have touched their chopsticks much, their gaze fixed on him.

Nan Zhiyi felt a little uneasy under his gaze. He insisted on eating a few more bites, but finally couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you going to eat?"

"You eat," You Xin said, looking away and casually picking up some cucumber slices and putting them into her bowl. "I'm not very hungry."

"……oh."

Nan Zhiyi responded. A thought suddenly popped into his mind: You Xin seemed to have never really liked sweets since he was a child.

He ate a few more bites of scrambled eggs with tomatoes, then suddenly spoke up: "Um..."

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have suddenly gotten angry at you just now," Nan Zhiyi said softly. "I might have been a little too hasty..."

Upon closer reflection, he had no right to criticize You Xin's actions. Leaving aside the fact that he didn't know what had actually happened between You Xin and CG, didn't he himself choose to run away the moment he faced a barrage of insults and accusations?

Professional players face far greater public scrutiny than streamers. A single poor performance in a match can lead to public condemnation on various platforms, let alone for a starting core player from a top team like CG.

You Xin is two years younger than him. Expecting someone who is just 20 years old to be mature enough to face everything is a bit too harsh.

You Xin listened but didn't say anything, instead asking, "Is it to your liking?"

Nan Zhiyi nodded vigorously.

"Let's eat first. We can talk about it after we finish eating."

You Xin casually brushed the topic aside. The meal was concluded in an atmosphere of "no talking while eating or sleeping."

After dinner, Nan Zhiyi insisted on helping to clear the table, but You Xin insisted on not letting him, saying that there was a dishwasher at home, and then made him sit in the living room.

Nan Zhiyi had absolutely nothing to do. Just as he was contemplating whether he should seriously study the bird language in that book, there was a knock on the door.

You Xin was busy in the kitchen and seemed not to hear. He hesitated for a moment, then got up and went to the door to look through the peephole. He saw a young local woman standing outside, holding a dog leash.

Nan Zhiyi opened the door.

Then something immediately pounced on his feet.

He looked down and saw a small white dog with fluffy ears that looked strangely familiar.

A Samoyed that looks no more than three months old.

The woman seemed surprised to see that the person who opened the door wasn't the homeowner, but she quickly looked enlightened and rattled off a string of words to Nan Zhiyi. Nan Zhiyi was completely confused, but guessed that the woman was the one who usually walked You Xin's dog. She nodded her thanks, took the leash, and led the lively little dog home.

Just then, You Xin came out of the kitchen. Seeing Nan Zhiyi walking the dog, he raised an eyebrow: "...I forgot to tell you before. I just got a dog."

Nan Zhiyi had already squatted down to play with the dog. The puppy was very friendly and jumped up to lick his hand happily.

His tense emotions dissipated considerably, and he asked with a smile, "What's its name?"

“Kenken,” You Xin said. “He’s full of energy; he’ll destroy the house if he doesn’t go out for a day. I sent him to daycare. Just now, a teacher from the school brought him home.”

Nan Zhiyi thought to herself, "These days even dogs have to go to school."

He played with the dog for a while, and then naturally brought it up: "Is this a Samoyed? I especially love this breed! My fans used to draw me as a Samoyed in their chibi style, and I even used it as my profile picture."

As he spoke, he cupped the puppy's face in his hands and praised it with a grin, "Oh my, how can our little nibbler be so cute?"

You Xin was silent for a moment, then said softly, "You too."

Nan Zhiyi didn't hear clearly: "What did you just say?"

"It's nothing," You Xin said quickly. "You play with it first."

He gave Nam Ji-yi a dog toy she usually liked to chew on, and then went to the side to make a phone call.

After a while, Nan Zhiyi heard him hang up the phone and ask her, "Did you lose your bag before you got on the bus?"

“Yes.” Nan Zhiyi answered subconsciously, “It must have been stolen after we left the airport.”

"Are all your documents in there? Passport, ID card?"

Nan Zhiyi: "Yes..." This thief practically took all his identification documents.

You Xin said "I understand" and turned back to continue making the call.

Nan Zhiyi's thoughts were drawn away by him. He absentmindedly continued playing with the puppy for a while, then noticed out of the corner of his eye that You Xin had put down his phone, and couldn't help but ask, "What happened just now?"

“Call the police,” You Xin said.

Nan Zhiyi suddenly realized something. He had actually forgotten such an important matter.

"Mongke!" He suddenly stood up.

You Xin: "?"

“…Um, Meng, do you remember him? He was the vice-carry on your team before.” Nan Zhiyi rubbed her nose. “I arranged for him to pick me up, but his car broke down on the way, so he told me to take a taxi and wait for him. Then my phone was stolen… Could you help me contact him and let him know I’m safe? Do you have his contact information?”

"..." You Xin looked at him like he was an idiot. "Of course. Because he's the one who asked me to come pick you up."

Nan Zhiyi: "???"

"Or do you think I just happened to run into you on the street?"

Nan Zhiyi: "..."

He really thought so...

You Xin noticed, but didn't point it out. "I've already contacted him. He can't come right now, so you can stay here with me for the time being," he said. "You don't have any documents right now, so you can't go anywhere."

As he spoke, he handed over another phone: "It's a spare phone, there's no SIM card in it, you can use it for now. See if you can log into WeChat and let your family know you're safe."

When Nan Zhiyi was on the bus, he only had time to send a WeChat message to his mother to let her know he was safe. Several close friends and Sister Li still haven't heard from him.

He took You Xin's spare phone, sat on the sofa and fiddled with it for a while, then sadly discovered that he couldn't remember his WeChat password and couldn't log in without a verification code.

You Xin stared blankly at him staring at the WeChat login screen: "Can't log in?"

“Yes…” Nan Zhiyi said dejectedly, “I forgot my password. I’ve tried several, but none of them worked.”

You Xin looked down at his phone and searched for a while before opening his WeChat friend list.

"Here you go." He handed over his phone. "See if you recognize anyone."

Nan Zhiyi: "?"

"WeChat friends," You Xin said succinctly, "find someone to help you with the verification."

Nan Zhiyi slapped her thigh: "That's right!"

He took the phone and couldn't help but feel fortunate that the other person was in the same circle as him and that they probably had quite a few mutual WeChat friends.

Sure enough, he soon saw a long list of familiar names.

The vast majority of You Xin's WeChat friends are professional gamers, plus some commentators and hosts from the gaming community.

Nan Zhiyi doesn't know many professional players, but she knows at least ten.

"Hey, Xiaopeng, there are so many people..." He muttered a familiar ID, a little troubled. "Who should I look for?"

You Xin: "..."

For some reason, his tone changed subtly: "We can find another one. I've already spoken to Mongko about it."

"Okay, sure."

Nan Zhiyi quickly selected a candidate. Out of politeness, he returned the phone to You Xin: "Could you please tell them for me?"

You Xin took the phone and saw that the contact was 【WD.Pigeon】.

He thought for a moment, then typed: "Nan Zhiyi lost her phone and can't log into WeChat. Could you help her with verification?"

The person on the other end was probably browsing the internet on their phone, and a few seconds later replied at lightning speed: 【????????】

[WD.Pigeon: Holy crap, the little wandering god has come back from the dead!!!]

[WD.Pigeon: Could this be a scam? Are you really the person in this video?]

[WD.Pigeon: Wait, whose phone did you say was lost?]

You Xin: "..."

None of his sentences got to the point. Talking to this person is exhausting.

He handed the phone to Nan Zhiyi again: "Send him a voice message."

As he spoke, he pressed the voice button.

Nan Zhiyi didn't know what to say for a moment: "...Ahahaha Bai Yu, it's me. I lost my phone. Can you help me with the verification later?"

His tone sounded no different from someone who had been kidnapped.

Then he watched as [WD.Pigeon] changed to [typing], then after a while it changed back to [WD.Pigeon], and then back to [typing] again.

After several attempts, the other side finally sent a long string of 【。 ...

Nan Zhiyi prayed desperately in her heart that he wouldn't say anything reckless.

Fortunately, at the crucial moment, when faced with You Xin's WeChat chat box, this "big leak" held his ground and finally replied normally, "Okay, tell me the verification code later and I'll click it for you."

Nan Zhiyi gave him a big thumbs up in her heart, thinking that she would definitely treat him to a meal when she got back.

After finishing the verification work, I glanced at the time and it was already 9 p.m.

A wave of drowsiness washed over Nan Zhiyi. To adjust to the time difference, he had stayed up all night on the plane, and now he couldn't help but yawn.

You Xin immediately noticed: "Tired?"

Nan Zhiyi blinked: "A little..."

"Let's rest first, there's no point in waiting now," You Xin said.

He paused as if remembering something, then said, "I only have two beds at home, so you might have to sleep in my room. I'll go change the bedding in a bit."

Nan Zhiyi's heart skipped a beat, and she immediately declined, "I can sleep in the guest room..."

“There’s no guest room at home, and the bed is in Kenken’s room. It likes to sleep in people’s beds,” You Xin said, her tone leaving no room for refusal. “You sleep in my room, and I’ll sleep with Kenken.”

Nan Zhiyi was taken aback. The host certainly wouldn't allow a guest to sleep in a doghouse. But he remembered that You Xin had always had poor sleep, easily waking up at the slightest noise in the middle of the night.

Looking down at the three-month-old puppy circling around their legs, he felt extremely guilty: "It must be noisy at night. Can you sleep well if you sleep with it?"

You Xin glanced down at the dog and said expressionlessly, "I can't sleep well if I sleep with you."

Nan Zhiyi: "……………………"

He wisely kept his mouth shut.
