The future will be even happier [Bonus Chapter]

The future will be happier.

After living together for a month, Chen, who was eager to get married, did not hesitate to pull Wen Dai out of bed, who had just fallen asleep, and forcibly led the still-unconscious Wen Dai to the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau, which was not yet open.

Q: How come you didn't sleep for long?

A: It's indescribable.

Her bones hadn't fully hardened yet, and Wen Dai's legs trembled as she stood. Chen Sizhe supported her arm, and she didn't want to open her sleepy eyes, but the current situation forced her to stay awake.

"Chen Sizhe, are you a dog? Would it kill you to let me sleep a little longer? Why can't we get a good night's sleep and come to the Civil Affairs Bureau when we're full of energy? Does it have legs and can run away?" Cui Mei frowned impatiently, but her eyelids were half-open and half-drooping. Occasionally, a gust of wind would blow her black hair across her face.

Even the way she tossed her hair betrayed her restlessness; when she parted her black hair, the mottled red marks on her fair neck were extremely conspicuous. She was still drowsy, so much so that she was completely unaware of her exposed neck.

There were very few passersby in the early morning, but many of them would peek over with curiosity, then smile and look away.

The man supporting her touched her face again; his large hands were slightly cool, but his palms were warm as he gently stroked her cheeks.

"What I'm afraid of is you running away. The Civil Affairs Bureau doesn't have legs, but you do."

A deep, melancholy voice reached her ears, and Wen Dai, startled, tilted her chin up. She met Chen Sizhe's gaze and clearly captured the emotion in his eyes—his black pupils were clearly black, yet they gave off a sense of loneliness.

She grabbed his hand and pulled it down, but didn't let go of his fingers. She rubbed her fingertips against his fingers, but her tone was teasing: "You're quite insecure, Chen Sizhe."

The person being ridiculed didn't respond, which can be considered an admission of guilt.

However, Wen Dai also understood why he lacked a sense of security. During the month they lived together, she hardly took the initiative. The most proactive thing she did was to go to the study every day. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that she had moved into the study. Although she had a boyfriend in the house, she devoted herself entirely to her work.

She would never tell this guy that she was actually shy.

Wen Dai glanced at him a couple more times. The man in her field of vision had his upper eyelids lowered and his neck slightly bent. The morning sunlight shone on the other half of his face, making it appear translucent white.

He was indeed a creation favored by Nuwa, and at present, he even seemed somewhat pitiful.

After a brief hesitation, Wen Dai boldly confessed her feelings: "I really like you. I haven't taken the initiative because I'm too proud. I want to have breakfast now, so why don't we go have breakfast first?" The last sentence was a desperate attempt to salvage her lost face.

Unfortunately, the person she considered "somewhat pitiful" was actually just dozing off. After Wen Dai suddenly blurted out that confession, his gaze was initially blank before he smiled.

"I like you very much too. But the Civil Affairs Bureau will open soon, so let's wait a little longer."

She shouldn't have felt sorry for him; what a waste!

Just as the two were about to become windblown stones at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau, several more couples arrived. Some kept a distance from each other, maintaining a "live and let live" attitude; others were hand in hand, all lovey-dovey.

Wen Dai stared blankly at the couple who kept a certain distance from each other, seemingly strangers. They were probably husband and wife; at least until the divorce certificate was issued, they could still be considered husband and wife.

It was only a beat later that her mind realized—she was getting married.

Having lost a family, she is about to start a family with another person.

The staff from the Civil Affairs Bureau arrived shortly afterward. As they entered, Wen Dai, who was lost in thought, was distracted by the sudden coolness of the ring on her left ring finger. With just a glance down, a diamond ring came into her view.

The person who put the ring on her finger didn't blush; their fox-like eyes lifted, their dark pupils becoming a mirror reflecting her.

"I was worried that estimating the circumference of your finger by touch wouldn't be accurate enough, so I measured it while you were asleep a while ago before buying the ring. Time was tight, so I couldn't customize a style you liked. You can start designing it after we get our marriage certificate, or you can suggest a concept and I'll find a designer."

Wen Dai moved her fingers and felt something rough against her skin, but she couldn't quite describe how she felt.

I don't actually have any requirements or expectations for diamond rings, but when someone actually puts a ring on my finger, I can't help but feel happy.

The process of obtaining a marriage certificate was not complicated. When she finally held the certificate in her hand, Wen Dai felt like she might still be half asleep.

The man beside her, who had succeeded, was in a very good mood. He held her hand tightly and said to himself as they walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, "I don't know which kind of wedding venue you prefer. I've booked everything from outdoor to church, beach, and manor styles. We'll go through them one by one..."

A simple sentence brought Wen Dai back to her senses, and she felt her head begin to feel heavy.

"Chen Sizhe, hosting a wedding isn't like playing a video game; you don't need to complete all the endings—you might not find it tiring, but I certainly do. Besides, will any guests really want to attend so many weddings?"

“Why not? Although I don’t really need them to attend. I don’t need them to give me any so-called wedding gifts. Few people would refuse to eat and drink for free at a wedding banquet, right?” Chen Sizhe said matter-of-factly. “But if you find it tiring, just choose the type you want to experience. You can resell the others if you can, and leave the rest empty if you can’t.”

That was a very extravagant statement, and Wen Dai silently shut up.

Wen Dai's wedding the following month was only a simple affair on a lawn and beach; she had no expectations for the grandeur of a church or manor, preferring to experience nature. Even so, she was quite exhausted.

She has no intention of holding a third wedding in the near future.

Life after marriage wasn't much different from before. However, Chen Sizhe was different from what she had imagined. His romantic sense was far more developed than hers. On any ordinary day, she might suddenly receive flowers from him, or a few bags might suddenly appear—from runway models to limited editions.

The old clothes in the closet were replaced without anyone noticing. Ever since he figured out her size, this guy has been obsessed with real-life dress-up games.

He repaid her for her past reluctance with a spring.

During the New Year, Wen Dai, who went to the Chen family home with Chen Sizhe in a legitimate capacity, was different from usual. She carried a limited edition bag and wore a custom-made outfit that Chen Sizhe had gotten. Although she was not the one who made the request, her outfit truly took extravagance to the extreme.

At first, Wen Dai was a little uncomfortable, but she couldn't stand Chen Sizhe covering his ears and silently sending her off—now both parties are quite at ease.

Upon seeing the "refreshed" Wen Dai, Qi Ya warmly invited her to sit down next to her, but her gaze lingered on the bag Wen Dai was carrying, and the hand that was originally lightly holding Wen Dai's arm also reached towards the bag.

"Oh my, you actually have this bag... You have no idea, I asked Chen Sizhe to help me reserve these styles, and every time he said he couldn't get one, it was always out of stock, it was so frustrating—"

The words abruptly stopped, and Qi Ya slowly raised her head, meeting Wen Dai's gaze, whose expression revealed a complex emotion.

Wen Dai watched helplessly as Qi Ya's expression changed repeatedly in front of her.

In that eerie silence, they both understood something, but neither of them said a word.

The spendthrift daughter-in-law whom Qi Ya once desperately wanted to avoid, who was "at odds" with her, was now right in front of her, though she was far away.

Unexpectedly, she became the person whose words had come true, and Wen Dai felt endless regret—she really shouldn't have brought that bag.

The Chen father and son, who rarely took on the role of cook, brought the dishes to the table. Just then, fireworks burst in the night sky outside the window. Under the warm yellow light inside the house, they called out to Qi Ya and Wen Dai, who were sitting close together in the living room, "Dinner is ready! Go wash your hands."

Wen Dai turned around and was greeted by Chen Sizhe's face, which was bathed in warm light, and his eyes, which were filled with a faint glow, looked at her with a bright light.

Scenes of spending the Spring Festival alone in the past flashed through my mind, but were ultimately replaced by the scene before my eyes.

Wen Dai, who lost her home at the age of ten, now has a new home. The little girl who ate dry rice during her first lonely Spring Festival is no longer lonely.

Wen Dai recovered her senses, and when she met Chen Sizhe's gaze, she smiled brightly and replied, "You're here!"

Mom and Dad, I am very happy now.

The future will be even happier.
