Airport Pickup

Airport Pickup

It was only a few hundred meters from the plane exit to the station exit, but Liu Jianchun felt like he was having a nightmare.

The plane had landed smoothly at the airport two hours earlier, but for the next two hours, the crew conducted a thorough cabin inspection, while ground staff also inspected the aircraft's exterior and engines, confirming there were no risks before passengers were allowed to disembark. After disembarking, each passenger underwent a physical examination and a written statement. If any issues arose during the subsequent investigation, each passenger was required to be prepared to cooperate.

She pushed her luggage towards the exit, her legs feeling so weak as if she were stepping on cotton, because she had just learned from the police officer during the investigation how serious the accidents that flights encountered in mid-air were, and that any slight mistake would result in the destruction of the plane and the death of everyone on board.

She thought she was in a life-or-death situation, but unexpectedly, the probability was only 99% to 1%.

After coming out of the investigation room, her head was buzzing. It was not easy for her to find her luggage step by step and exit the station in an orderly manner according to the landmark instructions. How could she have time to look for her fellow countryman, Dr. An, whom she had just met on the plane?

At five in the morning local time, only passengers from Liu Jianchun's flight came out of Exit B3. Therefore, the family members gathered at the door were either praying with their hands together or hoping with tears in their eyes to see their loved ones as soon as possible. The scene did not look like an airport welcome, but rather like refugees waiting for the distribution of public grain.

She was also moved by this touching scene, but when she remembered that she came alone, her turbulent emotions calmed down.

She looked at the time. Even if she was delayed for two hours due to the investigation, she still arrived in Berlin a few hours earlier than Qin Tianyi. Except for Qin Tianyi, no one knew that she was coming to Berlin. Even if she had not encountered this accident today, no one would come to pick her up at the airport.

As she dragged her suitcase out of the station, she was convinced that no one was waiting for her. She didn't even glance into the crowd, but just chose a less crowded passage and walked out quickly.

It was not until she squeezed out of the crowd that she faintly heard someone calling her name.

"Liu Jianchun!"

She stopped and checked again, but before she could figure out which direction the voice came from, the other person appeared in front of her.

Jian Zhaonan looked haggard and his clothes were even a little disheveled. It was obvious that he was in a hurry. He didn't even have time to change out of his home clothes under his coat before taking a taxi directly to the airport.

Looking at him, she gave him a hug without thinking, but he pushed her away: "Why are you here?"

She looked up at him, staring intently into his bloodshot eyes.

Had he been up all night since learning about her flight's accident at two in the morning? Or had he never been sleepy in the first place, and it just happened that this incident happened during a sleepless night, and their long-standing friendship forced him to come?

She pouted and said aggrievedly: "Shouldn't I be the one asking you this? Why are you here?"

Qin Tianyi is the only friend they have in common. Apart from Xiao Qin who always acts as a troublemaker between them, there is no other person like him in the whole world. Even if they don't ask, they already know the answer the moment they see each other.

He pursed his dry lips and took her luggage naturally, but his words were still full of resentment: "Don't ask these useless questions. Since you are here, let's go."

As he turned around, she suddenly wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, refusing to let go no matter how hard he pulled. Her sudden passion left Jian Zhaonan at a loss, and he looked around awkwardly, afraid of being watched.

"Stop it." He didn't even dare to speak loudly to scold her. He lowered his voice and turned back to speak to her.

"You were so unrestrained back home, not afraid of being photographed at all, but you're so cautious when you're abroad. Is there someone in Berlin you care about?"

"What are you thinking? I'm not afraid of being photographed. It's just that this..." He winked at her, asking her to turn around and look at the family crying beside them. "This isn't the right occasion."

She let go of him in frustration. She had finally taken the initiative, but he didn't appreciate it. In a sense, Jian Zhaonan wasn't even as easy to deal with as Xie Yu. Xie Yu could be won back with just a few shady little tricks, but he wanted pure love.

The two walked side by side. With him leading the way, she didn't care which direction they were going, but only focused all her attention on the man beside her.

Doctor An said that his current physical condition was not suitable for surgery, and he had stayed up all night for her. If he performed the surgery the day after tomorrow as planned, it would probably do more harm than good to his subsequent recovery.

"Zhao Nan, can your surgery be postponed to the day after tomorrow? Isn't it too soon?"

After listening to this, he frowned. "The surgery time isn't decided by me alone. It requires coordination with many departments. How can I change it at will? Even if I have time, the surgeon who will be operating on me may not have time either."

If she hadn't met his attending physician on the way, she would have been fooled by his words. It wasn't that the doctor didn't have time, it was clearly him who took the initiative to ask for it!

She didn't immediately bring up An Ran to put pressure on him: "Talk to the doctor, maybe there will be a later date? It's really too rushed right now. You've been working non-stop for two or three months with almost no time to rest. Your body won't be able to handle surgery now."

"Who told you this?" He suddenly stopped. "Did Qin Tianyi tell you?"

Qin had already tried his best to bring them together, and he had helped her a lot. There was no need to let him take the blame at this time: "I guessed it myself, he didn't say anything."

"You're right, but this body is mine. I know better than you what to do and when."

Seeing that he wouldn't listen, she anxiously told him what happened on the way. "I came back with your attending physician Anran. He told me everything about your condition. He also said that he had advised you before, but it was you who insisted on having surgery at this time. Your health is your capital for the competition. How could you act so impulsively on such a serious matter?"

"Zhao Nan, you suddenly chose to have surgery. Could it be... because of me..."

He stared at her with his red eyes, which made her feel uneasy and her back cold. Then he said, "Of course not! Liu Jianchun, you are too conceited. Do you think I live for you alone?"

She would rather be an inferior person than be arrogant. She mustered up the courage to say these words because she had deduced them too many times in her mind. She really couldn't think of a second reason other than because of her. She didn't expect to be slapped in the face by the other party.

He didn't make a move, but she felt as if she had been slapped in the face, burning with pain. "Okay, I know you weren't. Then why didn't you use the several months of vacation you had to take to contact the doctor for surgery earlier? Why did you have to wait until we broke up before suddenly disappearing from the world and coming here alone, picking the most inappropriate time to do it! Tell me, if it wasn't because of me, what else could it be?"

He took a deep breath, did not refute her, but let go of her luggage, turned and left.

She picked up her suitcase and hurried after him, "Jian Zhaonan, say something! How can you be so reckless if you stay mute? I dropped everything I was doing and came all the way to see you. Isn't my apology sincere enough? What do you want?"

He initially ignored her words and continued walking forward with big strides. It wasn't until someone grabbed his arm that he could no longer endure it and said, "I should be the one asking you this. What do you want?"

"You were the one who called me heartless before, and now you're the one who's stopping me from having surgery. What are you thinking? What do I have to do to satisfy you?"

She seemed to have lost all her strength and couldn't even take a step forward.

really……

He was so anxious to arrange the surgery because of her.

But what did she do wrong? She was disappointed with him before, and now she is worried that he can't recover. Her heart has always been true, and she has always hoped that he can get better, and it has never changed.

She cleared her throat to make her voice sound less choked: "You don't have to care about me. My opinion is not important."

"It's important." She didn't walk towards him, but he walked towards her instead. "What I hate most is the way you act like you don't care about yourself. You're not only trampling on yourself, but also my feelings for you!"

After staying up all night, her mind was not clear. She knew that what she said might not be rational, but some things, if she missed the opportunity to say them, might never be known to the other person.

"Zhao Nan, I'm not looking down on anyone. I just hope you care more about yourself and don't let my opinions influence you. You can't win sincerity by flattering me. Don't you see clearly enough the bloody lessons I learned from Xie Yu?"

"You're right, so I won't listen to you this time."

"If you don't want to listen, then don't listen. It's getting late. Go back and have a good rest. I wish you all the best."

After saying that, she dragged her luggage and quickly left towards the door.

As she walked out of the door, a pretty figure suddenly appeared in front of her. Before she could see the other person's face clearly, a bouquet of flowers was handed to her, which lifted her tired spirit.

"Congratulations on your safe arrival."

She took the bouquet handed to her by Kawasaki Miko and forced a smile: "Thank you, how did you know I was here?"

"I came here with Brother Zhaonan. He received a call in the middle of the night and was in a hurry to leave. I was worried about him being alone, so I came with him. He said it was a very important friend, but he didn't say who it was, but I guess it must be you."

"You guessed it right then." Meiko's enthusiasm always made her feel overwhelmed, especially when she was extremely tired like now.
