Chapter 128 The Calm Before the Storm

The hum of the machine continued, still subdued, and a tense silence filled the air.

Lu Zhaoming's gaze remained as unfathomable as a deep pool. He slowly turned around and looked at the frantically jumping data streams on the control panel.

The deep blue light reflected on his sharply defined profile, making him appear somewhat enigmatic.

“Trust is a very expensive luxury, Professor. It seems we’ll have to pay this bill together.” Lu Zhaoming’s voice was so soft it was almost swallowed by the hum of the machine, but his words were like a sharp knife, piercing straight into Professor Lin’s heart.

Professor Lin's face was filled with pain and struggle. He took a deep breath, as if using all his strength, his eyes bloodshot, looking at Lu Zhaoming with a hint of despair and pleading: "I know I was wrong! Terribly wrong! But I swear, my original intention was only to stop that heartless bastard Chi Xiao from continuing to abuse this technology, and not to let more innocent people become experimental subjects! I don't want to see my father's research become a weapon in their hands to slaughter the world!"

Lu Zhaoming did not respond immediately, but merely glanced at him indifferently, his gaze as calm as a deep pool of water, making it impossible to discern what he was thinking.

He then slowly turned around, his gaze falling on the data streams still jumping wildly on the control panel screen. The dim blue light reflected on his angular profile, making him appear somewhat unpredictable.

“Mission accomplished.” Lu Zhaoming suddenly spoke, breaking the oppressive atmosphere.

He turned to Professor Lin and Afu, his tone leaving no room for doubt, "What you said is true, the preliminary optimization plan for 'Annihilation Light' has been completed."

Professor Lin and Afu exchanged a glance, finally feeling relieved.

Afu quickly performed a series of operations, inputting the various parameters of the optimization plan into the system.

His fingers flew across the keyboard, as if racing against time.

Finally, a line of green text appeared on the screen: "Optimization complete, ready to start."

A hint of fatigue flashed across Professor Lin's face, but also a trace of relief: "Now, activating 'Light of Annihilation' requires not only technical support, but also immense mental strength." Before he finished speaking, Lu Zhaoming had already nodded silently. He was calculating his own condition in his mind, understanding that this would be a gamble of life and death.

Just then, Xiao Hu rushed in, still covered in mud.

"Judge, something bad has happened!" Xiao Hu's face was filled with tension. "There's been an unusual commotion outside the ruins. It seems like a large number of Blood Raven troops are gathering!"

An ominous premonition immediately rose in Lu Zhaoming's heart.

He took a deep breath and quickly analyzed the situation: "Green Snake, this traitor has definitely revealed our location to Crimson Owl." As soon as he finished speaking, he decisively issued the order, "All personnel evacuate, immediately!"

Afu and Xiaohu acted quickly and began preparing to evacuate.

Lu Zhaoming quickly copied the startup program of "Annihilation Light" into an encrypted chip and carefully put it into his pocket.

He couldn't let this technology fall into the hands of the Red Owl.

During the evacuation, Lu Zhaoming noticed that Professor Lin seemed somewhat dazed, as if he had some concerns.

He tentatively asked, "Professor, if you had a choice, would you start it yourself?"

Professor Lin gave a wry smile, a hint of weariness in his eyes: "I'm too old to bear such a burden. But if it were you... perhaps you could find a better way." These words plunged Lu Zhaoming into deep thought.

He understood that Professor Lin's words, though simple, contained a great deal of weighty meaning.

When they reached the exit of the ruins, they found that the Blood Ravens, led by the Green Serpent, had blocked the only escape route.

The green snake stood outside, a cold smile playing on its lips, its attitude arrogant: "Judge, you certainly haven't disappointed me. However, this time you have nowhere to escape."

Lu Zhaoming was burning with anger, but he was not controlled by his emotions.

He calmly instructed Afu and Xiaohu: "You two evacuate first, I'll hold them off."

A hint of disdain flashed in the green snake's eyes: "You alone? Don't be so arrogant, Judge."

Lu Zhaoming sneered,

He turned around and gestured for Afu and Xiaohu to leave quickly.

Just as Xiao Hu and A Fu turned around, Lu Zhaoming suddenly drew a long sword from his back, the tip of the sword drawing a cold arc in the air, pointing directly at the green snake.

"Come on, show me your strength!" Lu Zhaoming's voice was cold and firm, as if the whole world was under his control.

Green Snake sneered and waved his hand, signaling his subordinates to attack with all their might.

Just as tensions were running high, an emergency notification suddenly popped up on the system interface: The moment Green Serpent uttered the order to "attack with all his might," before his ferocious Blood Raven minions could even howl and pounce, in that critical instant—when the killing intent in the air seemed to solidify, chilling enough to peel away a layer of skin—Lu Zhaoming's mind heard, "Ding-dong—Your system takeout has been delivered. A bad review will affect the system's performance metrics!"

Well, okay, not that cheeky, but that familiar system interface did indeed pop up with a "whoosh" like a death knell, still that kind of reddish-purple warning color that flashed wildly, the light so dazzling it almost blinded his handsome eyes, which were as deep as the starry sky.

[Urgent Alert: Unknown ultra-high energy signal interference detected, source unknown!]

warn!

warn!

The interference intensity... Holy crap, it's off the charts!

The system is calculating like crazy... Calculating my ass!
