Good heavens, when this laboratory collapsed, the noise was like the sky falling and the earth splitting apart, comparable to a magnitude 10 earthquake, and it was like a surround sound effect!
Lu Zhaoming felt as if the ground beneath his feet was undulating like waves, and cement blocks were falling from above his head with a "crashing" sound, making his scalp tingle.
"Boom—Crack!"
The ear-piercing sounds of twisting metal, cracking concrete, and the continuous, deafening roar were enough to shatter one's eardrums.
Smoke and dust filled the air, choking people and causing them to cough. Visibility was pitifully low, and everything in front of us was a hazy gray. Only the emergency lights were barely hanging on, flickering on and off, making everything around us look like a scene from a horror movie.
"Damn it, playing this big!" Lu Zhaoming squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth, holding the semi-conscious Liu Gang firmly with one hand, while carefully protecting the knife with the other. The kid's wound was still bleeding, his face was as white as paper, and he was barely breathing, as if he could kick the bucket at any moment.
Although Liu Gang was as strong as an ox, he was clearly mentally traumatized. As Lu Zhaoming dragged him along, he kept muttering "Little Knife... Little Knife..." with tears and snot all over his face. He was no longer the tough guy he used to be.
"Hold on! Hold on, all of you!" Lu Zhaoming roared, his voice sounding somewhat small amidst the roar, but his eyes shone with a frightening intensity.
He was like a trapped beast desperately searching for a way to survive, every muscle tense and every cell roaring.
Damn it, if I had known these white-robed bastards were so unethical and would blow up the base, I should have planted more bombs beforehand and sent them all to their deaths!
Suddenly, the floorboards collapsed beneath his feet. Lu Zhaoming reacted with lightning speed, using his waist to twist at an incredible angle in mid-air, landing precariously on a relatively stable steel plate beside him.
"Damn it!" he couldn't help but curse again, his heart pounding like a drum.
Just as he was dragging the two of them, stumbling and struggling towards the alloy door he remembered, the system interface in his mind suddenly started flashing rapidly with a "beep beep beep," and the red warning sign hurt his eyes.
"[Warning! An abnormally high-energy signal source has been detected rapidly gathering! Threat level: Extremely high!]" The cold, mechanical voice sounded again, carrying an ominous tone.
Lu Zhaoming's heart skipped a beat.
High-energy signal source?
Wasn't that old devil doctor already taken down by him?
Could it be... that old schemer has another trick up his sleeve?
Or perhaps, what appeared to be a mistake was actually a deliberate opening he deliberately created?
Damn it, these researchers are all filthy!
“They…they’re still watching me…” Just then, Liu Gang, who had been in a daze, suddenly stopped. He stared blankly at the billowing smoke and dust, his voice low and hoarse, as if squeezed from the depths of his throat, carrying an indescribable eeriness.
"Screw you!" Lu Zhaoming yelled irritably, pulling harder and dragging him forward. "If we don't move now, the King of Hell will really come to see us!"
Liu Gang staggered after being pulled by him and didn't say anything more, but his empty eyes made Lu Zhaoming feel uneasy.
This is not right, very wrong!
With great difficulty, Lu Zhaoming, relying on his superb sense of direction and the system's vague guidance, navigated the maze-like ruins and finally broke out of the crumbling laboratory area.
Behind him came the deafening sound of complete collapse, and the huge shockwave even pushed him, almost making him fall flat on his face.
"Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey!" Lu Zhaoming spat out the sand in his mouth, glanced back at the billowing smoke, and felt lingering fear.
If it had been a few dozen seconds later, the three of them would have been buried alive inside, turned into dried meat patties in the wasteland.
The journey back to the temporary base seemed exceptionally long.
The hideout was an abandoned subway transfer station that Lu Zhaoming had found before; it was a winding and somewhat secluded place.
Upon returning to the base, Su Li and Lin Shuang greeted them. Seeing Xiao Dao's miserable state, both girls turned pale.
Su Li is a doctor, and although it's a post-apocalyptic version, she's still quite adept at first aid.
Lin Shuang silently took the weapon from Lu Zhaoming's hand, her eyes filled with worry.
Xiao Dao was quickly placed on the temporary hospital bed. As soon as Su Li examined him, her brows furrowed: "He lost too much blood, three ribs are broken, and one of them slightly grazed his lung. Damn it, if the bullet had been a little off, it would have gone straight through his heart!" She cursed as she deftly cleaned, sutured, and applied medicine to the wound.
This girl usually looks alluring and charming, but when she gets to work, she's incredibly capable.
Lu Zhaoming breathed a slight sigh of relief. As long as Su Li didn't say she died on the spot, Xiao Dao's life would most likely be saved.
However, what followed was a coma and a long recovery period.
Liu Gang's condition was even more worrying for Lu Zhaoming.
The guy was placed on another cot, and most of the time he had a blank stare, like a soulless puppet.
Occasionally, he would clear his mind for a brief moment, glancing at Xiao Dao, then at Lu Zhaoming, his lips moving as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately he would fall back into that confused state, repeatedly muttering incomprehensible words like "command," "obey," and "they're watching"...
The blacksmith, a man with a rough exterior but a heart as delicate as an embroidery needle, also came over.
He had dealt with the White Robe Organization quite a bit before and knew a little about their underhanded methods.
He carefully examined Liu Gang's nape and temples, then scanned him with a homemade small signal detector, his expression growing increasingly serious.
