Chapter 184 The Truth Beneath the Undercurrents

Xiaodie's words were like a bombshell, sending turmoil through Lu Zhaoming's heart.

He quickly activated the Eye of Judgment, and time seemed to freeze at that moment, with everything around him becoming slow and clear.

He saw Iron Leopard's fist hover in mid-air, heard the faint sound of dust slowly falling in the air, and smelled the pervasive smell of sweat and tension in the air.

However, his gaze remained fixed on Xiaodie's clear, spring-like eyes.

"Hey, what are you daydreaming about?" Tie Bao's voice pulled Lu Zhaoming back to reality from his reverie. He came to his senses, his face calm, but he already had a plan in mind.

Xiaodie didn't reveal his trump card, but instead left him a sliver of hope, which gave him some confidence.

Lu Zhaoming patted Tie Bao on the shoulder and laughed, "Don't be so impatient, we've only just begun. You need to be taught a lesson." Tie Bao glared at him, but ultimately said nothing more, though he was still unconvinced and secretly vowed to find a chance to get revenge.

The laughter of the survivors around the training ground gradually subsided.

Lu Zhaoming's gaze swept over everyone, noticing the complex look in Xiaodie's eyes.

He secretly decided that this girl might be a key part of his plan.

That night, Lu Zhaoming took advantage of his patrol to approach Xiaodie alone.

The night was as dark as ink, and moonlight shone through the sparse clouds, illuminating a corner of the training ground.

Xiaodie stood under a dead tree, holding a small mechanical tool in her hand, seemingly repairing something.

Lu Zhaoming walked over quietly and stood beside her.

"What...did you sense?" Lu Zhaoming's voice was deep and magnetic. Xiaodie's body trembled slightly, and she turned to look at him with a hint of wariness in her eyes.

“You… are not just a mercenary, I can sense that.” She said softly, her gaze piercing through the night as if she could see right through Lu Zhaoming’s disguise.

Lu Zhaoming gave a meaningful smile and said softly, "Yes, you're right. But why are you so loyal to Lin Shuang? I understand that she saved you. But do you really believe that everything she did was right?"

Xiaodie's expression instantly became complicated. She lowered her head and gently stroked the mechanical tool with her fingers.

After a moment, she whispered, "She saved my life and gave me a reason to live. But... what if she was wrong?"

Upon hearing this, Lu Zhaoming's heart stirred; he knew the weight of those words.

He continued softly, "What would you do if she was wrong?"

Xiao Die raised her head, and Lu Zhaoming nodded inwardly. He knew that there was already a crack in the girl's heart, and with just a little guidance, he could make her re-examine Lin Shuang's behavior.

In the following days, Lu Zhaoming tried to keep his distance from Xiaodie and waited for an opportunity.

Finally, during a casual conversation, he learned an important piece of information from Tie Bao—Lin Shuang was about to organize a large-scale ambush operation, targeting the leader of the scavengers in the wasteland—Brother Rat.

This news sent a chill down Lu Zhaoming's spine.

Despite his bad reputation, Rat Bro is one of the few survivors in the wasteland who possesses resources and influence.

If Lin Shuang really takes action against Brother Rat, the situation in the wasteland will become even more chaotic.

Lu Zhaoming decided to act ahead of schedule.

He used the excuse of going out to conduct reconnaissance to secretly contact Qinglian and pass on this important intelligence.

Qinglian understood immediately and quickly took action, informing Brother Mouse.

On the day of the ambush, Lu Zhaoming outwardly followed Lin Shuang's team, but inwardly remained vigilant at all times.

He uses the "Judgment Eye" to see the enemy's weaknesses, watching everything around him unfold in slow motion.

As Black Wolf's ambush force approached silently, Lu Zhaoming's mind was as clear as a mirror.

The battle erupted instantly, and Lin Shuang's team was caught in a chaotic melee.

Lu Zhaoming's figure flashed in the crowd, and every strike he made was incredibly precise.

He discovered that the black wolf was hiding in some ruins, preparing to launch a deadly attack.

Just then, Xiaodie suddenly appeared in Lu Zhaoming's field of vision, her eyes filled with determination and resolve.

"Leave this to me." Xiaodie's voice was soft but firm. She stretched out her hands, and an invisible force emanated from her body, instantly interfering with Black Wolf's stealth ability.

With the black wolf's figure exposed to everyone's gaze, Lu Zhaoming seized the opportunity and dealt a severe blow to the black wolf.

The black wolf roared angrily, "Why did you betray us?"

Xiaodie gritted her teeth and replied, "I just want to find out the truth!" Her voice echoed in the night, carrying an undeniable firmness.

Lu Zhaoming was shocked. He knew that Xiaodie's choice might have changed everything.

He looked at Xiaodie.

"What should we do next?" Lu Zhaoming's voice was deep and powerful. As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly found himself surrounded by a group of people.

The smell of gunpowder hadn't completely dissipated yet; mixed with a strange stench of blood and dust, it made one's throat tingle.

Lu Zhaoming dusted off his dusty coat and found Brother Rat, who was almost crying, in a corner of the messy ruins where wisps of black smoke were still rising.

This guy, with his shiny bald head and face covered in mud and sweat, looked like a groundhog just pulled out of a mud pit. When he saw Lu Zhaoming, he was like a lifeline, and almost rushed over with snot and tears streaming down his face.

"Brother Lu! My dear brother! You really saved my life! If you hadn't given me advance notice, I would have been dead here today, chopped up and fed to the dogs by that woman Lin Shuang!" Brother Rat was so excited that his voice cracked, and he grabbed Lu Zhaoming's hand and wouldn't let go. His hand was sticky, and he didn't know if it was sweat or something else.
