Chapter 4: Deadly Dangers in the Dark, Every Step a Thrill

The footsteps grew closer and closer, and the air seemed to vibrate with them.

Lu Zhaoming's heart raced, his adrenaline surged, just like the tension of the final circle in a battle royale game.

He quickly slipped behind a pile of discarded sheet metal, held his breath, and minimized his presence.

At the same time, he silently activated the "Doomsday Judgment System," and a series of data streams flashed rapidly across his retina, scanning the surrounding environment.

"Target: Zhou Hu, mercenary leader, combat strength rating: D+, threat level: medium."

"Target: Liu Yan, mercenary, skilled in stealth and assassination, danger level: high."

"Target: Unknown mercenaries *3, combat strength rating: E, threat level: low."

Wow, quite a commotion! Looks like these guys are after the supply depot.

Lu Zhaoming quickly recalled the note Zhao Xiaorou had left behind—"Be careful, they're coming."

It seems this little girl had sensed the danger long ago, but unfortunately, being small and weak, she could only leave behind such a vague warning.

"Don't worry, little sister, I will definitely protect you," Lu Zhaoming said silently in his heart.

The current situation is that the enemy is in the dark while we are in the light, so a head-on confrontation would definitely be unwise.

The best approach is to hide first, figure out their intentions, and then act when the opportunity arises.

These guys were clearly well-trained mercenaries, moving swiftly and cautiously.

Zhou Hu walked at the front, his face full of fat and his eyes fierce, as if he wanted to devour everything here.

Liu Yan followed closely behind, her figure elusive, like a venomous snake lurking in the shadows, ready to deliver a fatal blow to the enemy at any moment.

Lu Zhaoming activated the system's "Eagle Eye" mode, taking in Liu Yan's every move.

Her stealth skills are indeed superb. She is adept at using shadows to conceal her figure, and she also carries some kind of high-precision poison needles. Once hit, she would probably lose her fighting ability instantly.

To avoid revealing your location, you must find a way to divert their attention.

Lu Zhaoming's eyes darted around, and a plan came to him.

He quietly picked up a pebble and flicked it with a deft touch towards an oil drum in the distance.

A soft "bang" sounded particularly abrupt in the quiet storage point.

Zhou Hu and the others immediately stopped and looked warily in the direction from which the sound came.

"Who?" Zhou Hu roared, his voice rough and full of pressure.

With a swift movement, Liu Yan vanished into the darkness like a wisp of a ghost.

It's done!

Lu Zhaoming was overjoyed.

Assassins of Liu Yan's caliber have an extremely high sensitivity to sound; once they detect anything unusual, they will definitely go to check immediately.

This will greatly reduce the pressure on my side.

Sure enough, Liu Yan soon appeared near the oil drums, carefully searching the surrounding area.

“Nobody’s here.” She shook her head and reported to Zhou Hu via radio. “It’s probably just a rat.”

"A rat?" Zhou Hu was clearly incredulous. He frowned and scanned the entire storage point. "Be careful, something's not right here."

His men began searching everywhere, turning the old boxes and sacks upside down.

"Boss, there's nothing here!" one mercenary complained. "There's nothing of value here but trash."

"Impossible!" Zhou Hu roared. "Li Feng clearly said that a batch of important supplies was hidden here!"

"Could it be that Li Feng tricked us?" another mercenary muttered to himself.

"Bullshit!" Zhou Hu kicked the mercenary in the butt. "Even if Li Feng is stupid, he wouldn't dare to mess with me!"

Seeing that Zhou Hu's men were about to find his hiding place, Lu Zhaoming knew he couldn't wait any longer.

He activated the system's "sound simulation" function, simulating a faint footstep sound coming from behind the storage point.

"There are people over there!" a mercenary shouted immediately.

"Chase!" Zhou Hu waved his hand and led his men in pursuit of the direction from which the footsteps were coming.

Great, they've taken the bait!

Lu Zhaoming's lips curled into a cold smile.

This tactic of "luring the tiger away from the mountain" is simple, but very effective.

Taking advantage of the moment when Zhou Hu and the others left, he quickly darted out of his hiding place and ran towards Zhao Xiaorou's bed.

Sure enough, Zhao Xiaorou was lying unconscious on the bed, her face pale and her lips cracked, clearly having been drugged.

"Little sister, wake up, wake up!" Lu Zhaoming gently patted Zhao Xiaorou's cheek.

Zhao Xiaorou let out a soft moan and slowly opened her eyes.

"Brother Lu... Brother Lu?" she said weakly, "You... why are you here?"

"Don't speak, I'll take you away from here." Lu Zhaoming picked up Zhao Xiaorou, carried her on his back, and then quickly ran towards the exit of the storage point.

With his familiarity with the terrain and the assistance of the system, Lu Zhaoming successfully evaded Zhou Hu and his men, and led Zhao Xiaorou back to his temporary hiding place.

"Brother Lu, thank you," Zhao Xiaorou said gratefully.

"Don't mention it, it was nothing." Lu Zhaoming smiled and said, "You should rest first, I'll go find you something to eat."

Just as he was about to leave, the system notification sounded suddenly.

"Unknown data stream detected. Parse?"

Unknown data stream?

Lu Zhaoming was slightly taken aback.

What is this?

Could it be related to Zhao Xiaorou?

"Analyze!" He chose "Analyze" without hesitation.

A blue light shot out from the system and enveloped Zhao Xiaorou.
