"Hey beautiful, do you see a UFO over there?"
Lu Zhaoming's heartfelt call, coupled with the sudden burst of flashbangs, successfully caused a brief moment of chaos in the Green Snake's team.
It must be said that although this "feint to the east while attacking the west" tactic is old-fashioned, it often has unexpected effects in the wasteland environment.
Taking advantage of those few seconds of free time, Lu Zhaoming grabbed Xiaodao and Xiaocui and darted behind a huge stone pillar.
"Quickly! Activate Plan B!"
Xiao Dao was still a little confused: "Plan B? What's Plan B?"
Lu Zhaoming gave him a light tap, annoyed: "That's right... improvise! Remember, I'm the protagonist, I have a halo, I won't die!"
As the effects of the flashbang faded, anger filled Green Snake's delicate face.
She glared fiercely at Lu Zhaoming, wishing she could devour him alive.
"Search him! Dig three feet into the ground if you must, find him!"
However, Lu Zhaoming did not panic and flee as she had imagined.
Instead, he leaned against the stone pillar, leisurely observing his surroundings.
Suddenly, his gaze fell on an inconspicuous figure in the corner of the hall.
It was an old man wearing a tattered robe and thick glasses, watching their every move with great interest.
Standing next to him was a burly young man who appeared to be his assistant.
“Interesting. It seems there are other residents living in these ruins.” Lu Zhaoming’s lips curled up slightly, revealing a meaningful smile.
He knew he might have discovered an important clue.
Just as the Green Serpent's group was about to approach, the old man suddenly spoke up: "Young man, I advise you not to act rashly. The mechanical devices here are extremely complex. If you activate them incorrectly, it will trigger a chain reaction and destroy the entire ruins."
Lu Zhaoming raised an eyebrow, wondering who this old man was.
Could he be the caretaker of this ruin?
He asked tentatively, "Old man, who are you?"
The old man adjusted his glasses and said slowly, "You can call me Professor Lin. I am a descendant of scientists from before the nuclear war, and I have been protecting this place all my life."
"Professor Lin?" Lu Zhaoming's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately thought of the rumors he had heard from other survivors.
It is said that some secret research bases left over from before the nuclear war are hidden in this wasteland, which may contain a large amount of scientific and technological data and resources.
"Professor, it seems we have a special connection." Lu Zhaoming walked over with a smile and extended his hand.
“My name is Lu Zhaoming, a kind-hearted citizen who was just passing by.”
Professor Lin did not shake hands, but looked at him with a scrutinizing gaze: "You are not an ordinary person. There is a special aura about you."
"Oh? Is that so?" Lu Zhaoming shrugged. "Maybe it's because my personal charm is too strong."
"Stop being so glib," Professor Lin said irritably. "I can sense your interest in the machinery here. But I must warn you, these things are extremely dangerous. If you want to live, you'd better listen to me."
"Then what should we do?" Lu Zhaoming asked humbly.
After all, in this situation, having one more ally is always better than having one more enemy.
“The mechanical devices here require a complex password to activate. And the clues to that password are hidden throughout the ruins.” Professor Lin pointed to the surrounding walls and floors. “You need to find them and arrange them in the correct order to activate the device.”
"It sounds a bit like a puzzle game," Lu Zhaoming said, stroking his chin. "But I like it."
He turned to Su Li and said, "Su Li, you, Xiao Dao, and Xiao Cui stay here to protect Professor Lin and his assistant A Fu. I'm going to look for clues to the code."
"No, it's too dangerous!" Su Li immediately objected. "I'll go with you."
"Listen to me." Lu Zhaoming looked at her gently. "Trust me, I have a way."
After saying that, he walked into the depths of the ruins without looking back.
Watching Lu Zhaoming's departing figure, Su Li's heart was filled with worry.
She knew this man could always create miracles, but this time, the enemy he faced seemed even stronger.
"Don't worry, he'll be fine," Professor Lin reassured her, seemingly seeing through her thoughts. "He's a smart man; he knows what to do."
At the same time, Lu Zhaoming had arrived in a dimly lit passage.
He activated the time-delay function of the "Doomsday Judgment System," and everything around him slowed down.
He could clearly see the ambush that the Green Serpent's soldiers had set up in the passage, as well as the expressions on their faces.
"Heh, you think you can stop me?" Lu Zhaoming sneered, his figure moving like a ghost among the ambush soldiers, easily avoiding all the traps.
He came to a stone tablet covered with runes and carefully observed the patterns on it.
These runes are ancient and mysterious, exuding an unsettling aura.
"What is this?" Lu Zhaoming frowned, trying to decipher the meaning of these runes.
Suddenly, fragmented memories flashed through his mind—information about the "purification plan" before the nuclear war.
"The purification plan... to eliminate negative human emotions?" Lu Zhaoming muttered to himself, "Could this be the root cause of this disaster?"
The more he thought about it, the more he felt something was wrong.
If this plan was truly intended to eliminate negative emotions, why did it spiral out of control and lead to such terrible consequences?
Could it be that the plan itself has some kind of flaw?
