The blue light behind the stone gate gradually dissipated. Lu Zhaoming rubbed his eyes, which had been blinded by the light, feeling like he had just finished dancing at a club, his head buzzing.
He shook his head, trying to clear his mind, before finally managing to stand up and brush off non-existent dust from his body.
Before me was a huge circular hall, just like the final battle scene in a science fiction movie.
In the center of the hall, a sphere emitting a faint blue light floated in mid-air, like a giant blue heart, beating rhythmically.
This thing is exactly the same as the "Azure Core" we saw before, only it's several sizes bigger.
Professor Lin's voice trembled slightly, breaking the eerie silence: "This is the origin of the 'Purification Project'... It can not only eliminate negative emotions in humans, but also... permanently change our genetic structure."
Lu Zhaoming curled his lip. This old man still spoke with an academic tone. To put it simply, he was turning people into idiots!
He cautiously approached the blue "heart," but before he could examine it closely, the system's notification sounded like a death knell:
"Warning! High-level energy fluctuations detected! This device has resonated with the host's ability! However, its use may lead to irreversible consequences! The host is advised not to court death!"
"Wow, this is so exciting?" Lu Zhaoming was a little apprehensive; the system rarely gave him such a serious warning.
But then I thought, fortune is found in danger, and you can't catch tiger cubs without entering the tiger's den.
If Lu Zhaoming is afraid, how can he survive in the wasteland?
"Let's do it!" Lu Zhaoming gritted his teeth, reached out, and touched the dark blue "heart".
The instant his fingertips touched the core device, a surge of electricity coursed through his body. He felt as if he had been thrown into a pressure cooker, and every cell in his body was screaming.
The dormant superpower within him erupted like a volcano, instantly engulfing the entire hall in a deep blue light.
At the same time, Lu Zhaoming's consciousness was pulled away by a powerful force, instantly detaching from his body and falling into a boundless void.
There is no time, no space, only endless darkness and floating specks of light.
Lu Zhaoming felt like a small boat adrift on a vast ocean, always in danger of being swallowed by darkness.
Suddenly, a deep voice echoed in the void, carrying a hint of coldness and mechanical quality: "Welcome back, Subject 007..."
"Experimental subject? 007?" Lu Zhaoming was stunned, feeling as if he had heard something incredible.
Immediately afterwards, countless points of light surged toward him, each representing a memory, a memory belonging to the experimental subject.
He saw scientists in suits frantically conducting experiments as the doomsday countdown began, their eyes filled with madness, as if they were placing all of humanity's hopes on these experiments.
He witnessed countless people being dissected and modified amidst screams of agony, their faces etched with pain and despair.
He witnessed one experimental subject after another suffer endless torture, leading to mental breakdowns and turning them into mindless zombies.
Lu Zhaoming felt as if his brain was about to explode, with countless fragments of memories rampaging through his mind, causing him unbearable pain.
He saw his own reflection; he was also one of the test subjects!
However, he was luckier than the others; he survived and even obtained the "Doomsday Judgment System".
"Holy crap, what kind of plot is this?" Lu Zhaoming felt like his worldview was about to collapse. He had always thought he was the chosen one, but he never expected that he was just a guinea pig!
"Warning! Host's superpower is about to go out of control! Please disconnect immediately! Please disconnect immediately!" The system's voice sounded again, this time with a hint of panic.
Lu Zhaoming knew that the system was not joking. If his superpower really went out of control, the entire ruins would probably be razed to the ground.
But he was not willing to give up!
He wants to find the truth!
He needs to figure out the true purpose of the "purification plan"!
He needs to find a way to control his superpowers!
He gritted his teeth, enduring the excruciating pain in his brain, and continued to explore those fragments of memory.
He witnessed more and more brutal experiments, and saw how scientists used any means necessary, even to the point of inhumanity, to achieve their goals.
He even spotted the scorpions; they were also involved in the "Purification Project," which they wanted to use to rule the entire wasteland!
Just as Lu Zhaoming's superpower was about to completely spiral out of control, a warm embrace tightly held him.
"Lu Zhaoming! Wake up! You can't go on like this!" Su Li's voice, choked with sobs, rang in Lu Zhaoming's ears.
"Su Li?" Lu Zhaoming was startled. He felt a warm power surge into his body, dispelling the endless darkness and cold.
"No matter what happens, I will be with you!" Su Li's voice was firm yet gentle, like a ray of sunshine illuminating Lu Zhaoming's heart.
Lu Zhaoming's heart skipped a beat. He felt as if he had grasped a lifeline, and his consciousness gradually returned.
He suddenly broke free from the core device, and the eerie blue light dissipated.
Professor Lin let out a long sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from his forehead: "You succeeded... but the core device's energy has been weakened and must be destroyed as soon as possible."
Lu Zhaoming nodded
"Let's go, let's leave here." Lu Zhaoming took Su Li's hand, preparing to lead everyone away.
Just as they were preparing to evacuate, the core device suddenly emitted a piercing alarm, the sound so sharp it was like fingernails scratching a blackboard, giving everyone goosebumps.
