Chapter 5 A Three-Way Game: Outwitting a Pack of Wolves

Lu Zhaoming had a playful smile on his lips as he stared at the wandering scholar Fang Zhou in front of him, thinking to himself, "This guy is interesting; he knows quite a lot."

"Conditions? Tell me." Lu Zhaoming crossed his arms, with an expression that said, "I'm very interested, but you have to satisfy me first."

Fang Zhou cleared his throat, but before he could gather his emotions and begin his long speech, a burst of noisy footsteps, like a zombie apocalypse, shattered the tense and delicate atmosphere.

Zhou Hu's fleshy face appeared at the entrance of the dead end, followed by a group of mercenaries wielding various weapons, each one looking fierce and menacing, as if they wanted to raze the place to the ground.

"Lu Zhaoming! You have a path to heaven but you choose to walk into the gates of hell! Today is your death day!" Zhou Hu's voice was extremely loud, making the surrounding ruins tremble. He truly lived up to his reputation as a man who could scare away enemies with just his voice.

A million grass mud horses galloped through Lu Zhaoming's mind. He thought to himself, "Is this guy a dog? His nose is so sensitive!"

However, he still wore his signature roguish smile, showing no sign of panic.

"Zhou Hu, what are you up to this time? Making such a big fuss, anyone who didn't know better would think you were going to demolish a house!" Lu Zhaoming said casually, as if he were just greeting an old friend.

Zhou Hu clearly had no time for idle chatter, and waved his hand, "Charge! Kill them all!"

The mercenaries charged forward with howls, all their weapons aimed at Lu Zhaoming.

"Wait!" Fang Zhou suddenly shouted, raising his hands. "Everyone, calm down! Calm down! I am a scholar and a peace lover. You can't treat me like this!"

Zhou Hu completely ignored him. In his eyes, Fang Zhou, a frail intellectual, was no different from roadside weeds, and could be crushed with a single step.

Just as a chaotic battle was about to erupt, Lu Zhaoming suddenly smiled.

“Zhou Hu, are you sure you want to make a move here? Aren’t you afraid of attracting other people? You should know that the secret of this safe house isn’t known to you alone,” Lu Zhaoming said pointedly.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Hu's expression changed slightly.

He knew, of course, that he wasn't the only one eyeing the safe house.

If we make too much noise here and attract other people, that would be troublesome.

"Hmph, you're smart to know what's good for you!" Zhou Hu sneered, waving his hand. "Arrest him! Dead or alive!"

The mercenaries charged again, but this time they didn't fire directly; instead, they tried to capture Lu Zhaoming alive.

Lu Zhaoming moved swiftly, weaving among the mercenaries like a ghost.

The upgraded "Doomsday Judgment System" not only enhanced his strength and speed but also gave him a more acute sense of perception.

He could clearly predict the movements of each mercenary and easily dodge their attacks.

"Bang!"

Lu Zhaoming kicked a mercenary away, snatched the gun from his hand, and fired a shot into the sky.

Gunshots echoed through the ruins, further agitating the nerves of everyone present.

"Stop it, all of you!" a dignified voice rang out.

Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw Qin Wan'er leading several patrol members from the base over.

Her face showed a hint of anger, clearly indicating her dissatisfaction with the chaotic scene.

"Zhou Hu, what are you doing? Who gave you permission to use force here?" Qin Wan'er questioned sternly.

When Zhou Hu saw Qin Wan'er, his expression immediately turned rather unpleasant.

He knew that Qin Wan'er held a high position in the base and had a close relationship with the base leader, Zhang Tieshan, so he didn't want to offend her.

“Secretary Qin, let me explain…” Zhou Hu tried to explain, but Qin Wan’er didn’t give him a chance at all.

"Enough! I will report what happened here to the leader. You are all coming back with me!" Qin Wan'er said coldly.

Left with no other choice, Zhou Hu could only slink away with his men.

"Lu Zhaoming, are you alright?" Qin Wan'er turned around and asked with concern. Her expression made it seem like she had come to the rescue.

"Thank you for your concern, Secretary Qin. I'm fine," Lu Zhaoming said casually, but inwardly he was filled with wariness towards this woman.

He didn't believe Qin Wan'er would be so kind.

Qin Wan'er gave Lu Zhaoming a meaningful look, then led the patrol team away.

With the crisis averted, Fang Zhou finally breathed a sigh of relief. He walked over to Lu Zhaoming and said in a low voice, "Brother, it seems we've all been dragged into a big mess."

Lu Zhaoming nodded. Of course he knew that the secrets of this safe house were far more complicated than he had imagined.

“Tell me what you know.” Lu Zhaoming looked at Fang Zhou with a hint of expectation in his eyes.

Fang Zhou organized his thoughts and slowly said, "This abandoned underground safe house was originally a secret experimental facility built by the government before the apocalypse. It not only stored a large amount of supplies, but may also have left behind some very dangerous experimental subjects."

"Experimental subjects?" Lu Zhaoming raised an eyebrow and asked, "What experimental subjects?"

Fangzhou shook his head, indicating that he was unaware of the matter.

"I don't know the specifics. But I do know that the password to this safe house is very complex and requires three encryption chips to crack."

"An encrypted chip?" Lu Zhaoming's heart skipped a beat.

“That’s right. These three chips are controlled by different factions. To enter the safe house, you must obtain these three chips,” Fang Zhou said.

Lu Zhaoming immediately understood that this was not a simple treasure hunt at all, but a three-way game, or even a multi-way melee.

He must be careful and proceed cautiously.
