The air seemed to freeze, so heavy that it was hard to breathe.
As Lu Zhaoming and his group stepped into the depths of the ruins, it felt as if they had entered another world.
The surrounding walls were no longer cold rock, but covered with an unknown material, engraved with twisted symbols, like some kind of ancient incantation, or alien graffiti.
"This place is a bit eerie!" Lu Zhaoming couldn't help but mutter, feeling a chill run down his spine.
“This is no ordinary weirdness,” Su Li followed closely behind him, her alluring eyes scanning the surroundings warily. “These symbols... I feel like I’ve seen them in some book before. What are they... energy seals?”
Lu Zhaoming's mind raced, and he immediately activated the "Doomsday Judgment System" to scan the surrounding environment.
On the system interface, countless data streams scrolled wildly, eventually converging into a few lines of eye-catching text:
Unknown energy fluctuations detected.
[Analysis Result: Ancient sealing technique, suspected to be used to suppress some powerful energy source]
[Recommendation: Proceed with caution to avoid damaging the seal structure]
“If I’m not mistaken,” Lu Zhaoming’s voice was low but carried an undeniable confidence, “the core device of the ‘Purification Project’ is right here.”
Upon hearing this, Professor Lin's already pale face turned even paler.
His voice trembled as he said, "Be careful. If this seal is broken, it could trigger an uncontrollable energy eruption. At that point, the entire wasteland could be doomed!"
Xiao Cui clung tightly to Lu Zhaoming's clothes, too frightened to even breathe.
She was just an ordinary little girl; she had never seen anything like this before.
The group continued along the narrow passage, where the walls became increasingly smooth and the symbols on them became denser, as if they were about to come alive.
Suddenly, a deep mechanical roar came from ahead, like some kind of giant machine in operation, or like an ancient beast roaring, shaking the entire ruins.
"What's going on?" Lu Zhaoming immediately signaled everyone to stop, while he cautiously groped his way forward.
After turning a corner, he finally saw the source of the sound—a piece of equipment that was still running.
The device had a unique design, consisting of countless complex pipes and wires, with a huge screen in the middle displaying all sorts of experimental data that dazzled the eye.
"Wow, this thing is so brain-taxing!" Lu Zhaoming couldn't help but complain.
Su Li leaned closer to examine it carefully for a while, then her expression changed drastically: "This is... a prototype of technology for controlling human consciousness!"
"What?" Lu Zhaoming's eyes widened. "Controlling human consciousness? No wonder they're so crazy."
He recalled the modified people he had encountered in the wasteland before; their eyes were empty, their behavior bizarre, like puppets being manipulated.
Now it seems that the culprit behind all this is this very device.
"We must copy this data!" Lu Zhaoming immediately ordered.
Su Li nodded, quickly took out several USB drives from her backpack, and began connecting the devices.
However, just as they were trying to copy the data, the ground suddenly began to shake violently, as if something was about to emerge from underground.
"Not good!" Professor Lin's expression changed drastically. "The defense mechanism has been triggered! Get out of here quickly! The seal is weakening!"
Lu Zhaoming also realized that the situation was not good.
He immediately activated the "time slowdown" function, and everything around him began to slow down.
The stone pillars began to collapse, and mechanical tentacles emerged from the walls, waving wildly in an attempt to stop their advance.
"Run!" Lu Zhaoming roared and charged out first.
Su Li and Xiao Cui followed closely behind. Although Professor Lin was old and frail, he gritted his teeth and ran as fast as he could.

Finally, they escaped to the end of the passage.

He immediately activated the "resource analysis" function and began to crack the mechanism on the metal door.

Time passed second by second, and the mechanism on the metal door was gradually cracked.
Finally, after expending a great deal of mental effort, Lu Zhaoming successfully opened the metal door.
Behind the door was a huge laboratory.
The laboratory covers an area of several thousand square meters and is filled with all kinds of instruments and equipment, shimmering with a faint blue light.
In the center of the laboratory, a pale blue energy sphere floats.

He finally understood that they had found the key to the "purification plan".
