Chapter 72 Beneath the Abyss

"Is this the entrance to hell?" Lu Zhaoming looked at the dark passage in front of him, a chill running down his spine.

It feels like playing an escape room game and accidentally falling into the plot of The Lost Tomb.

He quickly glanced around and saw Su Li carefully holding the unconscious Xiao Die, her pretty face filled with worry.

“Listen,” Lu Zhaoming lowered his voice, his tone firm and unwavering, “No matter what happens, don’t leave here. Trust me, I’ll handle everything.”

Su Li bit her lip tightly and nodded vigorously.

She knew that now was not the time to be sentimental, and trusting Lu Zhaoming was the only option.

Lu Zhaoming took out a glow stick from his pocket, broke it in half, and the green light immediately illuminated the space several meters around him.

He took a deep breath and jumped into the passage.

"Bang!"

The moment he landed, Lu Zhaoming felt as if he had fallen into a giant pile of cacti.

The passageway was filled with sharp metal spikes, densely packed and gleaming with an eerie light.

If an ordinary person fell down like that, they'd probably turn into a hedgehog.

"Damn, is this old man in white robes afraid people will come in for a visit? Why is he causing so much trouble?" Lu Zhaoming complained as he activated the "Energy Analysis" function of the "Doomsday Judgment System".

Suddenly, he saw energy flow patterns in his field of vision, like blood vessels connecting the metal spikes.

"I see. These metal spikes are trigger mechanisms. Once they touch a specific location, they will activate a certain defense mechanism." Lu Zhaoming understood.

He moved cautiously among the metal spikes, his figure as elusive as a ghost.

Thanks to his accurate judgment using "energy analysis," he successfully avoided several hidden trigger mechanisms.

With a few soft "clicks" and "clicks," several metal spikes suddenly shot out, carrying a sharp gust of wind, heading straight for Lu Zhaoming's vital points.

Lu Zhaoming was prepared and dodged the attack with a beautiful backflip.

"Thank goodness, I almost became a kebab." He patted his chest and said with lingering fear.

After a series of thrilling maneuvers, Lu Zhaoming finally reached the bottom of the passage.

Suddenly, a spacious underground space appeared before him.

In the center of the space stood a massive energy tower, radiating a deep blue light, like a giant sapphire, beautiful yet dangerous.

Lu Zhaoming slowly approached the energy tower and observed it carefully.

The tower is covered with complex runes, densely packed, like some kind of ancient script.

"This thing is pretty good," Lu Zhaoming couldn't help but exclaim.

"Beep beep beep!"

The "Doomsday Judgment System" notification sounded again: "High concentration of energy fluctuations detected. Caution advised."

"I know without you telling me." Lu Zhaoming rolled his eyes. This system can be quite verbose sometimes.

Just then, a chilling voice came from all directions, like a ghost, sending shivers down one's spine.

"Lu Zhaoming, you really came."

Lu Zhaoming looked around, but couldn't see anyone.

"Old man in white robes, stop playing tricks! If you've got the guts, come out and fight me one-on-one!" he shouted at the air.

"Hehehe..." The voice in the white robe rang out again, tinged with a hint of smugness and madness, "This is the true core of the laboratory—'The Eternal Core'."

"Eternal Core? That sounds like some kind of arrogant name," Lu Zhaoming said dismissively, curling his lip.

"Its power is enough to change the entire wasteland, and you will be my last experimental subject." The white-robed voice was full of threat.

Before he finished speaking, the surrounding walls suddenly opened, revealing rows of dark gun barrels.

A large number of mechanical guards, wielding energy weapons, aimed at Lu Zhaoming.

These mechanical guards, resembling humanoid robots, are covered in thick metal armor that gleams with a cold light.

"Holy crap, are they serious?!" Lu Zhaoming couldn't help but swear.

At the same time, the energy tower began to release strong electromagnetic interference, like a huge magnetic field, enveloping the entire space.

The notification sound from the "Doomsday Judgment System" became more urgent: "Warning! Warning! System functions are being interfered with; some functions are temporarily disabled!"

"Damn it, you messed up at the crucial moment! You're going to kill me!" Lu Zhaoming mentally complained.

He took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down.

"Time delay!"

Lu Zhaoming quickly activated the time-delay function, and everything around him slowed down.

He carefully observed the mechanical guard's behavior patterns, trying to find a breakthrough.

“These guys have a lot of firepower, but they move too slowly, and their eyes seem to only be able to see straight ahead.” Lu Zhaoming quickly discovered the mechanical guards’ weaknesses.

He noticed that the core of these mechanical guards, located on their chests, contained a special energy crystal that glowed red.

"It seems that's their Achilles' heel," Lu Zhaoming thought to himself.

He used the terrain to his advantage, constantly changing positions to evade the mechanical guards' attacks.

"Bang bang bang!"

The energy weapons emitted a piercing roar, and beams of energy, like meteors, streaked through the air and struck the ground, leaving behind charred marks.

Lu Zhaoming moved with agility, like an eel, weaving among the mechanical guards, constantly looking for an opportunity.

"Now!"

He seized an opportunity, suddenly accelerated, and rushed behind a mechanical guard.
