"What is that?" Liu Yan's eyes widened, and his voice even changed slightly.
Behind the boulder emerged twisted corpses, their skin an unhealthy grayish-white, their eyes gleaming with bloodlust.
The corpses stood in an eerie posture, as if controlled by some force, and staggered toward them.
"It's an infected person!" Su Li exclaimed, her face turning pale instantly.
The roar of the engine grew closer, and Lu Zhaoming knew they had to leave as soon as possible.
Despite his physical discomfort, he shouted to the crowd, "Quick, get out of here!"
After saying that, he rushed out first, running in the direction away from the infected people.
Su Li, Liu Yan, and Qing Lian followed closely behind, knowing that if these infected individuals caught up with them, death awaited them.
However, before they had run very far, they were stunned by what they saw.
On both sides of the road, corpses lay scattered about.
These corpses, like the infected people we had just seen, had grayish-white skin and bloodthirsty glints in their eyes.
A pungent, putrid stench filled the air, making one want to vomit.
"Ugh..." Su Li couldn't help but gag, her face turning even more pale.
"What...what exactly is going on?" Liu Yan asked, his voice trembling as he looked at the scene before him.
Despite his physical discomfort, Lu Zhaoming walked to a corpse, squatted down, and began to examine it carefully.
He discovered that the bodies were all killed in a very neat manner, almost all of them having been killed by a single blow from some kind of sharp weapon.
Moreover, they all had some strange marks left on their bodies.
"Something's not right. These people died too neatly," Su Li said, frowning.
Lu Zhaoming didn't speak, but instead activated the "Doomsday Judgment System".
He aimed the system at the corpse in front of him, and a blue light swept across the entire body.
The system quickly provided the analysis results.
"Warning! A unique marker from the white-coated experiment was detected in the deceased's body, indicating that the subject died after being infected with the virus."
"The white coat experiment?" Upon hearing this name, Su Li's face instantly turned ashen. "Could it be those guys who did this?"
Lu Zhaoming nodded, his expression grave, and said, "It seems this is yet another man-made plague."
"A man-made plague?" Upon hearing this, Liu Yan was instantly enraged. "Those sons of bitches dare to treat human lives like a joke!"
“Now is not the time to be angry,” Lu Zhaoming said calmly. “We must find the source as soon as possible and stop the spread of this plague.”
In order to investigate further, Lu Zhaoming decided to go to the nearest shelter to look for clues.
He believed that they might find some clues about the white coat experiments there.
The shelter is located in an abandoned town.
Most of the buildings here have collapsed, with only some ruins barely holding on.
The air was thick with dust and a putrid smell, making people feel depressed and uneasy.
Lu Zhaoming and his group carefully entered the shelter.
There are only a few dozen survivors here.
Most of them were ragged, sallow-faced, and emaciated.
Lu Zhaoming found a respected-looking old man and asked him about the plague.
The old man told Lu Zhaoming that a strange plague had recently appeared in the vicinity.
Infected individuals become ferocious and bloodthirsty, attacking any living creature.
Moreover, this plague spreads very quickly, and many people have already lost their lives as a result.
"Do we have a doctor here?" Lu Zhaoming asked.
The old man nodded and pointed to a corner, saying, "There's a Dr. Li over there who's been researching this plague."
Lu Zhaoming looked in the direction the old man was pointing and saw a middle-aged man wearing glasses sitting in a corner.
He was wearing a white lab coat and was intently studying some bottles and jars.
Lu Zhaoming walked up to Dr. Li and politely asked, "Hello, Dr. Li, we would like to ask you about the plague."
Dr. Li looked up at Lu Zhaoming, then pushed up his glasses and said, "You're from out of town, aren't you? I've seen a lot of people like you lately."
“We did come from outside,” Lu Zhaoming said. “We also came to investigate the plague.”
Upon hearing this, Dr. Li sighed and said, "Alright, since you want to know, I'll tell you. This plague is terrifying; it can cause people to lose their minds and turn into monsters within 48 hours. Moreover, the source of this plague seems to be an abandoned laboratory in the north."
"An abandoned laboratory in the north?" Lu Zhaoming's heart skipped a beat when he heard this.
He immediately realized that this was likely another testing ground for the white-robed man.
“Yes,” Dr. Li nodded and said, “I’ve been there before and found some strange equipment and experimental records. Those records show that the white-coated doctors are conducting a very evil experiment. They are trying to control people’s thoughts and behaviors through some means.”
"Those damned bastards!" Liu Yan cursed again upon hearing this.
Ignoring Liu Yan's anger, Lu Zhaoming continued, "Dr. Li, do you have any samples of this plague?"
Dr. Li nodded, took a glass bottle from under the table, and handed it to Lu Zhaoming.
The glass bottle contained some murky liquid with strange flocculent matter floating in it.
