Chapter 13: The End of the World

However, this meant that the space had less room for supplies. However, for the sake of long-term planning, she reluctantly moved some spices and clothing outside. Qin Qing's calculations were clattering. After the apocalypse, once the space was saturated with jade, would there still be room for these supplies?

At 1 a.m. on December 20, Qin Qing hid in the space, silently counting down to the arrival of the end of the world.

At the time, I was just like everyone else, clueless, so I went to sleep early. Fang Fang turned into a zombie at that moment. Shen Kexin, who had a problem with her, heard a creaking sound and thought Fang Fang was eating something in the middle of the night. She shone a flashlight towards Fang Fang's bed, only to find that Fang Fang's face had turned blue-gray, and she was gnawing at the neck of the girl next to her in the dormitory. If Shen Kexin hadn't screamed, she would have been bitten to death by the zombie Fang Fang had she not known it.

December 20, 2016

Many people's bodies mutated while they slept, and most of those who didn't mutate also suffered the same fate. A couple was bitten by the person they slept in. Those bitten also mutated. In an instant, the world felt like it had fallen into the eighteenth level of purgatory. Sirens blared everywhere, and everyone was in a state of panic. Those who hadn't been bitten hid in their homes, not daring to come out.

Qin Qing felt a pang of sadness. Back then, she had been one of those anxious people. However, after experiencing the apocalypse, she wasn't going to be such a saint and proactively rescue those people. The idea of repaying a favor with a favor and then resenting it with a big one wasn't something that happened in novels.

After calming down, Qin Qing put on some thicker sportswear, then took a machete and tied it tightly to her right hand with a cloth strip. She cautiously left the warehouse. Since the location she had chosen was close to the suburbs, there weren't many mutants there. Her goal for the day was clear: to go to the jade jewelry store she had visited before in the city. Although the energy contained in the jade wasn't much, even a mosquito leg was still meat.

But after a few nights of this, the roads leading to the city felt incredibly empty. The occasional lone zombie wandering the road was beheaded by Qin Qing one by one. After the zombies' heads were chopped off, a black, muddy liquid oozes out, splattering onto Qin Qing's clothes. Qin Qing pursed his lips forcefully. After just a few months back, he couldn't stand the filth sticking to his body anymore!

Thinking that fortunately he still had space and water in it for washing, the chill on his face relaxed a little.

The road was largely unobstructed. Looking at the cars abandoned on the road by the fleeing crowd, Qin Qing secretly thanked himself for not driving, as he would have been stuck at the intersection. Furthermore, the noise of the cars starting up would likely attract a swarm of zombies. Qin Qing cleverly dodged, avoiding areas with a high concentration of zombies and making his way around to the back door of the jewelry store.

The back door was half-open, and Qin Qing was secretly on guard. It seemed that someone had definitely been in the jewelry store before. She just didn't know if they were still inside. Thinking of this, Qin Qing frowned. She didn't expect that while the mantis stalks the cicada, the oriole is behind. She secretly thought that her actions during this period should have gone unnoticed.

Thinking of this, Qin Qing quietly pushed open the back door. Before she could completely open the door, she smelled a foul odor and a zombie wearing a security uniform and with a broken arm pounced towards her with a ferocious face.

Qin Qing was startled and immediately rolled over on the ground, barely avoiding the zombie's claws. Before Qin Qing could get up, the zombie roared, its bulging black and white eyes swiveled, and it lunged at Qin Qing again.

The nails on the shrunken, stretched palms were like sharpened daggers. If scratched by them, even if not fatal, they would be disfigured. However, the most terrifying possibility was probably infection and transformation into a zombie.

Qin Qing was startled at first, but she quickly regained her composure. Seeing the zombie lunge at her again, she unhesitatingly grabbed her machete and slashed at the zombie's single arm. If the zombie had any thoughts, it would have been baffled by how a woman could so easily chopped off its only arm with a machete.

The zombie lost its arm, and its entire body began to sway. Qin Qing took the opportunity to move behind it and slashed at its head. However, the zombie actually felt Qin Qing's attack and tilted its head slightly, causing Qin Qing's machete to get stuck in its skull.

It was unclear whether the zombie was in pain or annoyance, but it turned its chopped head, its teeth bared wide, and it actually tilted its head to bite Qin Qing's right palm. Qin Qing's machete was tied tightly to his right hand, and now the machete was stuck. In a flash, Qin Qing kicked the zombie in the face, tilting its head. Then, Qin Qing exerted force with his right hand and forcibly pulled the machete out of its skull.

The black liquid spurted out and spread all over the ground.

Qin Qing knew that as long as zombies survived, their strength was boundless, while he relied solely on the stamina he'd built up during this time, so he could only fight quickly. The zombie had been attacked in the face, its already rotten nose now dented from the kick. One of its already bulging eyeballs now hung out of its socket, while the other had been kicked somewhere unknown.

Seeing the zombie tilt its head towards him, Qin Qing roared, jumped up, stepped on the armrest of the sofa next to him, and then slashed at the zombie's neck. The zombie's head rolled to the side. After watching the zombie stagger and then fall to the ground, Qin Qing felt his arm go numb. He felt as if he had collapsed, and he immediately sat on the ground.

Only then did Qin Qing get a clearer look at the situation inside the jewelry store. The lights were still on, and the zombie she'd hacked to death lay nearby. It looked like a security guard. Near the counter, a headless corpse lay in a bloody mess. Dressed in a suit, it looked like the store's manager. It was unclear if the manager hadn't returned home or if he'd been living in the store. He'd died so tragically, likely at the hands of the zombie-turned-security guard.

Qin Qing couldn't help but frown at this thought, and she felt her arm go numb again. She had fought zombies before in the apocalypse, but zombies with this kind of power should only appear after a month. Today was only the fifth day, and she had already encountered a zombie with this kind of power?
