Chapter 33 Resentment

Originally, the family stayed in the community waiting for government rescue, but as the days passed, no matter how frugal they were with their food, it would eventually run out.

While everyone was asleep, Ye Shufeng sneaked out to a nearby store to collect some food, but he didn't expect to meet another group of people who had the same plan.

The group had only intended to steal the food, but they hadn't expected Ye Shufeng to put up such a fierce resistance. After Ye Shufeng clutched the few remaining packets of instant noodles and canned eight-treasure porridge to his chest, and knocked open a crack in his door, he collapsed to the ground when he saw his sister, Ye Shuxin, cautiously revealing half her face.

Huang Meijuan was crying and yelling for her husband to go out and look for her son when she saw him lying on the ground after opening the door. There was a gash on the back of his head, clearly caused by a blow with a blunt object.

Looking at the things scattered on the ground, the family didn't understand what Ye Shufeng had done! Huang Meijuan hugged her son and cried, wanting to go to the hospital. Ye Chengzhong was also dumbfounded.

Ye Shuxin was only startled when she saw her brother lying on the ground, and then she calmly collected all the things that had fallen on the ground. She then called her father to put her brother on the bed and took Yunnan Baiyao from the family medicine box to stop the bleeding for Ye Shufeng.

That evening, Ye Shufeng's face flushed and a fever began to build. Looking at his helpless father and his mother, who only complained about everything, Ye Shuxin twitched a cold smile. If there had been hope at the beginning, she would have despaired by the end.

Even if his brother survives his injuries, he'll probably be a burden. If he dies, it means he'll suffer less in this apocalyptic world, Ye Shu thought coldly.

So, after her father and mother fell asleep, she quietly entered Ye Shufeng's room. She looked at her brother lying unconscious on the bed, and her trembling hands couldn't help but reach out to him.

Just as they were about to run into Ye Shufeng, a burst of gunfire rang out in the neighborhood, followed by the sound of a loudspeaker calling for assembly. At this moment, Huang Meijuan pushed the door open, her face a mixture of surprise and delight.

Huang Meijuan was so surprised that she didn't notice the panic in Ye Shuxin's eyes or the trembling hand she pulled back. She was just happy that her son was finally saved. It turned out that the government had sent people to take the survivors back to the base.

Originally, due to orders, the soldiers who came to pick up the people were to place the Ye family on the first large truck. However, because Ye Shufeng was injured and had a high fever, the people on that truck were unwilling to ride with them. Everyone on the truck had a high status and background, and they were afraid of them. The soldiers did not dare to offend them. After all, who knew if they were injured and had a fever because they were captured by zombies?

No matter how the Ye family explained, the people on that bus refused to agree. The soldiers who were picking them up had no choice but to put the Ye family on the last few buses. Although the people on that bus were not very willing, they were all ordinary people. After protesting to the soldiers, seeing that it was useless, they had no choice but to agree.

However, he was filled with resentment towards the Ye family. Therefore, when Huang Meijuan burst into tears, the man next to her reacted in this way.

Ye Chengzhong had already lowered his head in discomfort because of his wife's words. Now, hearing his daughter's accusation and seeing his son's current condition, his face suddenly turned blue and red. He sighed, squatted down, grabbed his hair and fell into self-blame.

He was filled with guilt, but he didn't understand why his wife and daughter didn't understand him.

Ye Shuxin looked at her father who had finally calmed down, but she felt no sympathy at all.

Ever since she was old enough to understand, this so-called father had been like this, always evading responsibility when it was his duty, then blaming himself, and then compensating by infringing on her and her mother's interests.

She had always disliked Qin Qing, and Ye Chengzhong had played an integral role in that. Qin Qing's mother, her own aunt, was not only sweet and pretty, but also elegant and captivating. She had always envied and admired her since she was little. She and her father had the same parents, but they were completely different.

Comparing herself with her own mother, Huang Meijuan's vulgarity and greed made her feel disgusted, frustrated and scared.

She feared she would grow up to be another Huang Meijuan. Therefore, she felt both envious and jealous of Qin Qing, her aunt's daughter. This envy and jealousy only subsided when she heard from her father that her aunt and uncle had divorced and then died in a plane crash.

The little princess in her eyes was now nothing more than a phoenix without feathers, not even as good as a chicken. Every time she saw her father secretly giving something to Qin Qing, she would pretend to be careless and go to her mother to complain.

Then her father and mother would quarrel, and her mother would punish Qin Qing by starving her. Whenever she saw Qin Qing's stubborn and pitiful look, she would always feel very happy.

She originally thought that she could torture Qin Qing until she grew up, but she didn't expect that her grandmother was so partial to her. She helped Qin Qing have a big quarrel with her mother, and then took Qin Qing to the countryside.

By the time she was in college, she had gradually forgotten about her cousin, but she never expected that Qin Qing would be admitted to her school with excellent grades.

It was like a fish bone stuck in her finger, the slightest touch made her feel uncomfortable. She tried every way to deal with Qin Qing, and finally made her reputation less good, but it was not enough, far from enough. She could not let Qin Qing get up again and disgust her.

She wanted to drive Qin Qing into the quagmire, so that he would never be able to get up.

When she learned that Qin Qing had dropped out of school, she was so happy that she couldn't help rolling on the bed. When she met Qin Qing again and saw her working girl look, she was secretly happy.

Although Qin Qing didn't learn a lesson that time, she finally felt a little relieved when she learned that Qin Qing wasn't living well. However, this comfort didn't last for more than a few days, as the sudden arrival of the apocalypse shattered it.

Even in this state, his father still had no brains to think about that bitch Qin Qing. Thinking that Qin Qing might have turned into a zombie, Ye Shuxin felt a little better.

Looking at the seriously injured and unconscious Ye Shufeng, she felt a surge of irritation in her heart. If it weren't for him, they should have been with that group of people who looked so prestigious.

If we can get in touch before returning to the base, it will be much better than entering the base blindly like this.

However, before getting on the bus, she heard a piece of news from the soldier who was picking up her family. This news might be the only thing that could keep her family alive and well at the base.

Although the content made her feel disgusted, if it could ensure her future life, what would this little lie matter?
