Chapter 6 Family

The man with gold-rimmed glasses, upon hearing his boss' words, knew the topic was over! He quickly stepped forward and handed over the Venus Mining plan he had prepared. However, he kept Qin Qing's report in his hand and didn't take it out again, because he knew in his heart that it was no longer necessary.

Qin Qing, still exercising in the warehouse, had no idea her fate had come full circle, and she didn't know whether it was a good thing or a bad thing. Her physical strength had improved significantly, and two or three men couldn't even get close to her. Furthermore, besides the space being crammed full of supplies, animals like chickens and ducks could actually enter the space—a truly unexpected surprise.

Originally, she just wanted to make it convenient for herself so that she didn't have to buy chicken, duck, fish and meat to cook every day, so she set up a few cages and fish tanks next to the warehouse so that she could kill the fish whenever she wanted to eat them!

However, the space was too small, so she could only put the cages of chickens and ducks in it. Qin Qing looked at the chickens and ducks with shining eyes. She licked her lips, a little regretful that she would not be able to eat chicken and duck every meal. But at least she could still have chicken and duck eggs. After the apocalypse, these poultry died within a month due to the virus infection. Those who survived had basically become mutant beasts. At least when she died, she had never heard of anyone daring to eat those mutant beasts.

The two-tenths-square-foot area in the space was filled with dirt, but it was bare, so she had no idea what had been planted there. Previously, she'd only been thinking about storing more supplies, but now that she knew living creatures like chickens, ducks, and fish could enter, her mind was aroused. If those purchased vegetable seeds could be grown in the space, would she still be worried about not having fresh vegetables to eat in the future?

Action is better than thought. Qin Qing had originally stored the seeds in her space, figuring they would be useful if the apocalypse finally passed. Now that she could experiment, she naturally moved the supplies to one side and stacked them. Then, she found a hoe and loosened the soil, then scattered a bag of young cabbages all over the ground. She didn't know how to plant the vegetables, so she simply spread them, covered them with soil, and watered them with water from the well. Anyway, it was just a last-ditch effort!

There was a large truck in the warehouse, filled with enough easy-to-store supplies to last Qin Qing several years. Although she had previously thought that the condiments like oil, salt, sauce, and vinegar could be collected after the apocalypse, she couldn't help but buy quite a few.

In the corners of the warehouse, sacks of potatoes and other long-lasting vegetables, rice, and flour were piled high. Instant noodles and various canned goods were also stacked in boxes. Looking at these supplies, Qin Qing felt an unusual sense of satisfaction. Starting in the second month, Qin Qing no longer opened the warehouse in front of the deliveryman. It was almost as if no one knew that this shabby warehouse was filled with so many supplies.

Qin Qing also hired someone to reinforce, thicken, and raise the warehouse's outer wall. The original iron gate was replaced with a thick, anti-theft fingerprint steel door. Whenever she went out to buy wilderness survival supplies, she would lock the gate, making it impossible for ordinary people to enter.

Because gasoline couldn't be bought individually, Qin Qing could only pretend to fill up his tank during the day and then step on it carefully. Then, at night, he would go to the gas stations and steal the gasoline drums filled with gasoline bit by bit using the cheating device called "space".

She didn't know if it was luck or the gas station staff being lazy, but she had been stealing for over half a month, practically every gas station in City S, big and small, and surprisingly, no news broke. Looking at the barrels of gasoline, Qin Qing felt relieved. Her death in the apocalypse was largely due to her car running out of gas. Hence, she now had a deep-seated obsession with collecting supplies.

On December 15th, five days before the apocalypse, Qin Qing finally breathed a sigh of relief after withdrawing the last of the money from her card, buying a dozen backup solar generators, and hiring someone to install an electric grid around the factory walls. Although she was surprised to see so much money on the card, she didn't dwell on it, assuming it was already that much.

Then, she lay down in the room in the warehouse and slept soundly, the most peaceful sleep she had ever had since the end of the world and her rebirth. She slept until noon the next day. She got up, showered, brushed her teeth, washed her face, changed into a set of sportswear she would wear for hiking, and then took out her phone from her backpack, which she had turned off the whole time.

After turning on her phone, she was bombarded with text messages and missed call notifications. They were from Fang Fang, Zhao Chunze, her mentor, and even her uncle's number. Qin Qing saw the last call was on the morning of December 14th. After a moment's thought, she called back.

The call was picked up after more than half a minute. A low, anxious male voice murmured stealthily on the other end of the line, "Qin Qing, where are you? Why did your cousin say you were asked to drop out of school?"

Qin Qing's heart softened when she heard a hint of concern in her uncle's timid voice on the phone. Although her aunt wasn't kind to her, her uncle would often secretly give her things. From small pieces of candy to large amounts of pocket money, they could be as small as a few dozen yuan.

"Uncle, don't go out for a while, and remember to store some food and water at home. You and your aunt...mom, take care of yourselves. Take care!" Qin Qing's cold voice tinged with warmth. In her past life, she remembered that her aunt and cousin had been taken away by the base, and her uncle should have been too. Therefore, she wasn't overly worried about the safety of her uncle and his family, but she just thought it was always good to have some extra supplies.

Hearing Qin Qing's caring words, Qin Qing's uncle Ye Chengzhong's mouth trembled and moved a few times, but he never said the words to let Qin Qing come back to live, but his eyes were full of guilt. Qin Qing was his sister's only child. Ever since his sister died, his wife Huang Meijuan had treated the child with indifference. Although Qin Qing was raised by his mother, in Huang Meijuan's heart, everything that Old Lady Ye had belonged to their family. Now, Qin Qing's food and clothing were spent on their family's money.

Before his mother's death, Huang Meijuan learned that Qin Qing's father had been sending her living expenses, and she even pressured the old lady to release the money. He was also exhausted and could only arrange for his mother and Qin Qing to move to the old house in the countryside, waiting for their relationship to improve before bringing them back. Unfortunately, they had no contact until his mother's death. Now that he knew Qin Qing was living away from home, he was helpless.

He wiped his face and carefully glanced outside the toilet to make sure there was no one there. Then he said to Qin Qing, "It's inconvenient to go out without money. I transferred two thousand yuan to you yesterday. No matter what, remember to call your uncle if you have any problems. It's my uncle's fault. I'm sorry!" When he said this, his voice choked with sobs.
