Chapter 1 Knowledge
It was a moonless night and a cool drizzle was falling. The raindrops fell on the mud and rocks on the river bank, washing away the bloodstains thereon. A faint fishy smell filled the air.
This is the bottom of a deep canyon. A turbulent stream that splits the rocks is rushing in the center of the valley, and the sound of the rushing water echoes continuously in the valley.
On both sides of the deep valley, there are vertical cliffs on one side and steep slopes on the other. Countless tough shrubs, grasses and trees struggle out from the rocks and mud. The bottom of the steep slope gradually becomes gentle, forming an inclined mudflat river bank. On the other side of the river bank is a tragic scene.
The carriages of two or three carriages overturned on the river bank, with the bodies of people and horses scattered everywhere. Blood flowed from the horrific wounds and was washed into the river nearby by the rain, with fear solidified on the faces of the dead.
At the tragic scene of blood and rain, everything was silent, as if there was no sign of life left. Of course... it was only as if.
Near the river bank, in an overturned carriage that was hung on a rock by its reins and barely avoided falling into the river, a young girl was leaning on an upside-down seat with her eyes closed, silent.
The girl was about thirteen years old. She was wearing a plain white and brown dress and cloth shoes and socks. She was not dressed luxuriously. Many parts of her body were stained with blood. Her long silver hair fell neatly below her shoulders, and even reflected a faint silver light in the dim environment. Her beautiful face with her eyes closed and calm was stained red on one side. If you look closely, you can see that the blood is flowing from her forehead behind her bangs.
Like the surrounding environment, the silent girl seemed to be a part of this tragedy, until... her brows trembled slightly at some point.
An unknown amount of time had passed before a faint breath came from under the nose, which should have been completely silent. Then, along with the rise and fall of the girl's chest, the breath gradually became stronger.
"call………"
The girl's brows were tightly knitted together, revealing an uncomfortable expression. She raised one hand and touched the side of her forehead.
'It hurts... it's so cold... am I having a nightmare? Or did I fall off the bed?'
Confused thoughts were churning in the girl's mind. As the pain in her forehead obviously subsided, her thoughts became clearer and she thought about more things.
'Is it raining outside? Why is there a sound of water? There is no river near my home? Is someone running the tap to wash the floor early in the morning?'
Amidst confusion, the girl slowly opened her eyes, revealing red pupils. The dark environment made it difficult for her to see for a moment. After adapting for a while, she was finally able to barely see the scene in the dark and narrow space.
Then, she froze in place.
In the middle of the carriage, opposite the girl, a woman's body was leaning against another upright seat. Broken glass from the carriage window had pierced the woman's throat, and the still-flowing blood had stained her canvas dress red. Her eyes were wide open, and the fear she showed before her death was conveyed in the girl's eyes without any loss.
"hiss……"
Seeing this scene, the girl gasped, and her instinctive fear of corpses instantly filled her mind, and any other doubts and confusions were swept away.
In an instant, the frightened girl stood up immediately, but accidentally hit the top of the horizontal carriage with a "bang". She bent over, covered her head and looked around. Only then did the girl realize that she was in such a small space.
Being in the same secret room with such a horrible corpse, the girl couldn't help but feel even more frightened. She quickly reached out her hand and felt around, trying to find a way out. Fortunately, she quickly touched the upper door, pushed it hard and opened it, then she quickly climbed out of the car.
"Shit! What the hell is going on? What the hell is this place? Why is there a dead body? Was I put in a haunted house when someone fell asleep? Who would be so bored as to do such a prank? "
While thinking this in her heart, the girl struggled to climb out of the car, and then when she came to the river bank where it was drizzling, she was stunned by the tragic scene in front of her.
There were more corpses, not only humans, but also horses. The bloody smell in the air could not be washed away even by the rain. There was more than one overturned carriage behind him. The gas lamp on the front of the trailer was shaking and flickering with flames, providing a faint illumination for the darkness in the rain. The wheels on the carriage were still turning, as if it was still a Mercedes not long ago.
"What the hell is this... If it's a prank... it's a bit too much... Is it necessary to be so exaggerated just to play a trick on me?"
In the rain, the girl murmured in amazement as she looked at the scene in her eyes. Fear and confusion arose in her heart. Then she shook her head vigorously, forcing herself to calm down.
"Don't panic... calm down... observe the situation first... um!"
Just as the girl was trying to calm down, she felt a sudden sharp pain in her head and she couldn't help but cover her forehead again.
Then, she felt her mind boiling with thoughts, and countless memories that did not belong to her came flooding back to her, leaving her mind in a state of confusion.
“Huh… this is…”
Gritting her teeth, the girl reached out to hold onto the carriage beside her, trying hard to control herself from fainting. Just like that, while gasping for breath, her confused mind gradually calmed down, the stabbing pain in her brain gradually disappeared, and the girl... gained a memory that did not belong to her, or rather, the soul that controlled the girl's body at this time gained the memory of this body.
"Huh...Huh...Is this not a prank, but a time travel?"
Continuing to gasp, the girl finally understood her current situation.
The girl's soul at this time is a time traveler from a modern world, and the girl who originally belonged to this world was named Dorothy.
According to Dorothy's memory, she was an ordinary girl living in a remote village. Her father, a hunter, died in an accident during a hunting trip, and her mother disappeared after her father's death. Since she was a child, she and her only blood brother were adopted by kind-hearted people in the village, her father's relatives Aunt Hannah and her family.
Except for her natural silver hair and red pupils, Dorothy is a beautiful ordinary girl. She grew up with her brother under the care of Aunt Hannah. She was very sensible and well-behaved since she was a child and often helped adults with things.
Because of her natural intelligence, Dorothy was sent to the church class in the town to learn to read and write. She even became one of the few literate people in the village when she was in her teens. Therefore, she often helped the villagers read and write letters.
Dorothy's brother is six years older than Dorothy. Because the land in the village was occupied to raise sheep, he followed the trend of other young people in the village to go to the city to work as a worker when he was sixteen. He was away for three years. Not long ago, Dorothy's brother wrote to Dorothy in the village, saying that he had found a good job in the city and could afford to rent a decent house, so he wanted to bring Dorothy to live in the city.
Dorothy was very happy to receive the letter from her brother. She said goodbye to the villagers immediately, packed her things and got on a carriage to the city. However, she did not expect that not long after she set out, the carriage team she was in was robbed by bandits.
On the river bank at the bottom of the valley, rubbing her temples, Dorothy digested the memories in her mind while looking at the steep slope on the side. On the branches on the slope were many items that were turned out from the carriages. In Dorothy's memory, the convoy she was in overturned while being chased by robbers, and the entire convoy almost rolled down the slope. It seemed that no one survived...
In Dorothy's last frightened memory, she heard the shouts of robbers and the roars of wild beasts. Amid the wailing of horses, the world before her eyes began to overturn. Finally, after a pain in her forehead, her memory completely ended.
"Ah... what a poor girl! She finally managed to live a good life in the city, but she never expected to encounter such a situation..."
Dorothy sighed and said, "Oh!" Then her expression froze and she suddenly felt something was wrong.
