Chapter 198 Tribe

Chapter 198 Tribe

Somewhere in a dense woods, a path meanders forward. The smell of blood permeates the air. On the path, the scene of a tragedy is taking place.

On the road between the bushes, a freight wagon overturned on the road, and the cargo on it spilled out. The bodies of seven or eight soldiers wearing the same redwood and black hats fell around the wagon. They had wide eyes, arrows and javelins stuck in their bodies, and the blood that flowed out had stained their clothes and seeped into the soil.

䀴On the other side of the soldiers' bodies, slightly away from the direction of the carriage, there were several bodies of people wearing work clothes and looking like workers. They all had arrows in the back and it seemed that they were killed while fleeing.

Around the crime scene, several figures were standing there. Compared with the corpses lying on the ground, their appearance was very different.

Compared to the exquisite uniforms worn by the corpses of the soldiers, these people were wearing clothes made of rough linen. These clothes were long and short, some were in the form of robes and some were in the form of short shirts. Various simple abstract patterns were printed on the clothes. At first glance, you can see that they are various animals. There are small tassels on the edges of the clothes.

These people are all young men with brown skin and black hair. Many of them have groomed hair tied into braids that hang behind their backs. Some of them have headbands and bright feather decorations on their heads, and their faces are painted with various battle patterns with unknown pigments.

Among this group of brown-skinned people, a tall man with a shirtless body and a bison pattern on his back glanced at the bloody scene in front of him, and then spoke to his companions around him in a deep voice.

"This is another victory. We have once again successfully intercepted and killed the caravan of these wild demons. Without the guidance of the wild spirits, they are vulnerable in the wilderness. Don't be afraid of past failures.

"Under the watchful eyes of the great soul, we will finally take revenge and make these demons slowly pay the price with blood! We will drive them out, leaving no one behind!"

“Ohhhh!!!”

The man shouted loudly. Hearing his words, the other people around him raised their weapons and burst into enthusiastic cheers. Among them, only a young man with loose black hair and wearing a short shirt with an eagle pattern on it looked at the bodies of several workers with arrows in their backs in the distance, and remained silent.

The young man did not respond to the man's call. His silence attracted the man's attention. The man turned to him and said to him.

"Capac, do you have any questions? I saw that you fought bravely before and killed at least two demons. Why don't you celebrate your victory?"

Listening to the words of the man who looked like a leader, the young man named Kapak paused slightly, then he pointed at the fallen workers in the distance and spoke solemnly.

"Sado, why did you kill them? They were not fighters and had given up resistance. You waved your hand to signal them to leave but then shot them from the back. This was a violation of your promise."

"We don't have any promises to keep with these foreigners. I didn't say anything to them. I just waved my hand. This is not a promise." The man named Sadow said slowly, and Kapak frowned slightly before continuing.

"But we shouldn't attack those who are no longer fighters and have given up resistance. We have already won, haven't we?"

"Victory? No, Capac, victory alone is not enough. I want more blood of the demons besides victory. They killed a hundred times as many of us as we killed them. I will never be satisfied until they kill me a hundred times more. I am eager to slaughter every town of theirs."

Looking at the corpses on the ground in front of him, Sadow gritted his teeth and said, while Kapak responded with a serious expression.

"Listen to me for a moment, Sadow. I was once captured by those demons and used as a slave in their cities. I have worked in their factories and plantations. To be honest, those bastards treat their own people just as cruelly.

"That group of beasts forced their lower class to work day and night in the dark factory. People often died while working. After I killed the factory owner and distributed the money to those laborers, they helped me escape from the pursuit. I was able to return to the tribe with their help. Those laborers were also poor victims like us."

Capac explained to Sadow, but the other party spoke impatiently.

"Enough! I don't care what the difference is between those devils. I only know that they are the hateful invaders from the other side of the sea. They killed our compatriots and took our land. All I want is their blood! A hundred times more blood!

"Remember, Capac, you are a warrior of the Tupa tribe. You are not allowed to say a word for those demons. I will spare you this time, but I will punish you if you do it again next time!"

Sadow then pointed his finger at Capac and spoke sternly. Capac was slightly startled after hearing Sadow's words, and then he stopped talking.

"Okay, now clean up the battlefield. Except for the food and those fire-breathing sticks, leave everything else behind!"

Sadow gave the order, and then the people around him moved together and began to collect the spoils from the intercepted convoy, with the focus on food and guns.

All of a sudden, the surrounding Tupa tribe warriors began to gather and move things around them, including Capac who had been scolded before.

As Capac was turning over the body of a soldier in order to get a gun, he saw something under the body.

It was a book, a small book with a blue cover. The book was very thin and small, only about the size of a palm. It was more like a booklet than a book.

Seeing this booklet, Capak had an idea. He flipped through it casually and his eyes lit up. After looking around, he quietly picked it up and hid it on his body.

After cleaning up the battlefield, the team began their return journey. They used the surviving horses in the caravan to carry the fully loaded goods and traveled through the wilderness for three or four hours. Finally, in the afternoon, they finally returned to the Tupa tribal camp.

Amid the warm welcome of the crowd, the team entered the vast camp consisting of numerous tents and sheds. Many people with the same skin color and dress as them came to greet them, both men and women, young and old, many of them were skinny and haggard. Under the attention of the crowd, Sadow loudly described the story of their "hunting" this time and how many demons they had killed.

After the team was disbanded, Capak, who finally had some free time, immediately hurried back to his own tent.

In the dim tent, Capak looked around for a few times, then sat down next to his bed and opened a wooden box beside it.

Pocket watches, wristwatches, pistols, small statues, canes, glass bottles, top hats… The box is filled with industrial cultural products. These are Capac’s collection. His experience in the city has made him interested in those cultural products that came from across the sea and invaded their homeland, but seemed both ancient and advanced.

Capac hated the invaders, but was very interested in their endless stream of industrial products. This was different from most other tribesmen. Under the leadership of Sadow, the entire tribe rejected industrial products, except for guns, which were too powerful and could not be rejected at all.

After rummaging in the wooden box for a while, Capac took out a gas lamp, turned it on and the light illuminated the tent. Then he sat on the floor and took out the booklet he had hidden away earlier, which contained pictures and words that he could not understand.

What Capac held in his hand seemed to be a comic book. The pictures drawn with a black pen were one after another, and the characters in them seemed to be telling some kind of story. However, since he could not understand the lines written on their lips, Capac did not know the content of the story. However, this did not prevent him from still reading with gusto.

Gradually, Capac finished flipping through the comic book, and on the last blank page, he saw a word, "Zi-zi". This word was different from the previous ones that were printed, it was handwritten.

This is a Priit word, meaning "knowledge".
