Chapter 28: Dancer
Time flies and the sun sets.
The sun shining brightly in the sky was slowly sinking into the western plains. The dazzling sunset scattered over the huge royal capital of Tivian. Street lights on the roadside were lighting up one by one. The rows of chimneys on the edge of the distant sky were still spewing thick black smoke. The ships in the port were slowly leaving the port with a hum.
At dusk, at a crossroads on a busy street somewhere in East Tivian, there was a lot of traffic and noise, countless horse-drawn carriages gathered here, and pedestrians were crowded on the sidewalk. Three ladies in formal attire gathered and walked while chatting and laughing. The roadside was already full of horse-drawn carriages, and countless new carriages had to go farther away because they could not find a place to park. There were special police officers on the scene to maintain order.
On one side of the intersection, there stands a huge circular building. A wide staircase is covered with red carpet, extending to the tall and open solid wood door. On both sides of the door stand thick marble pillars. On both sides of the door are two rows of guards standing upright in neat uniforms. On the upper floors of the building, rows of huge long posters are hung down, all of which are printed with beautiful dancers in red robes. Above the door hangs a huge sign with the letters on it spelling "Feitian Theater".
Men in suits and ladies in luxurious long gowns walked together on the red carpet, talking and laughing as they headed toward the theater. On the sidewalk, Dorothy, who was wearing a top hat tilted to one side, a black dress, leather shoes and black stockings, looked at the scene in front of her and couldn't help muttering to herself.
"This is a much grander event than the charity event in Igwinter. It's worthy of being the capital, isn't it?"
"Miss Dorothea, is she from Igwynte?"
Standing next to Dorothy, Nefernis, who was wearing a simple white long dress that slimmed down her figure, a wide-brimmed flowered hat, crystal earrings and a necklace, and a small handbag, asked Dorothy curiously, and Dorothy nodded in response.
"I have been there for a while before, and I attended similar parties there... but the scale was not as grand as the ones here."
Dorothy responded simply, saying that thanks to Nefernis, she had gotten tickets for this popular show in Tivian, and with the intention of relaxing, she and Nefernis came here as scheduled to watch the show.
"Although I just wanted to relax and watch the performance, but based on Nephnis's description, this theater... this performance doesn't seem to be something extraordinary and simple. I hope nothing bad will go wrong."
Dorothy thought so in her heart, and Nefernis beside her said yes again.
"Ms. Dorothea, let's go in now. It looks like the show is about to start. If we don't go in, it will be closed."
"Okay, let's go."
As they talked, Nephthys and Dorothy walked onto the carpet together. Because Nephthys' figure and walking posture were too eye-catching, they attracted a lot of men's wolf-like stares, which made some ladies immediately cover their mouths with fans to suppress their jealousy. They also wanted to strike some plump poses to attract attention, but because the body-shaping clothes on their bodies were ridiculously tight, it was very difficult for them to make any big movements. They either got a stitch in the side or almost fell down. Nephthys, on the other hand, did not deliberately use any body-shaping clothes, and moved freely as usual, which attracted more attention.
"No matter where she goes, Neveu attracts so much attention. People like her normally can't do secret work."
Looking at the scene beside her, Dorothy thought in her heart, and then she continued to walk along the carpet into the theater with Nephnis. After passing through a long corridor, they came to a fork in the road.
"Please go to the left if your seat number starts with C, go to the left if your seat number is B, and keep going forward if your seat number is A. You will soon find your seats after you go up the stairs."
At the fork in the road, several staff members holding signs were guiding and dispersing the passengers, asking them to enter the venue from different entrances. Seeing this, Dorothy and Nephnis took out their tickets and took a look. They found that the first letter of their tickets was "a", so they just walked forward and continued walking.
After walking for a while on the beautifully decorated corridor lined with vases and sculptures, Dorothy and Nephnis saw a ticket inspector. After the ticket inspector checked their tickets, they turned and walked up the stairs. They walked up for a long time, and after coming out of the stairs, they finally arrived at the stands of the stage venue.
This is a vast fan-shaped space with a large stage at one end of the space. With the stage as the origin, there are fan-shaped stepped stands from low to high. The stage is currently covered by a huge red curtain. Between the stage and the stands, in front of the curtain, is a band that is preparing its instruments.
As there were already quite a lot of spectators in the venue, the venue was noisy at this time. Dorothy looked around and saw that the stands were crowded with people.
"This venue is really big. It feels like it's at least twice as big as the Igwynte Gem Theater. Even in such a large venue, almost all the seats were full. Adele is really popular..."
Dorothy thought so in her heart, and then she followed Nefernis to find her seat according to the seat number on the ticket. After sitting there, she waited quietly for the performance to begin.
"Ms. Dorothea, do you think there is really something wrong with this performance? Will we... encounter any danger?" While waiting, Nefernis asked Dorothy in a low voice with a worried tone, and Dorothy shook her head slightly.
"We don't know yet. We can only say that judging from Mosans's reaction, there might be a problem. And it's more likely that the problem is not with the performance, but with the theater itself. Anyway, let's wait and see. Even if there is a problem, it's a small one. There are so many people here, there won't be any major danger."
Dorothy responded to Nephnis by saying that such a large venue would have at least several thousand people, and no group would be so desperate as to dare to do anything big involving thousands of people under the noses of the Security Bureau and the church.
Amid the noise, time passed slowly. Finally, after all the guests were seated, the band members in front of the stage began to pick up their instruments and play music. A light and melodious music echoed in the venue. After hearing the music, everyone in the venue quieted down. They all knew that this was a signal that the performance was about to begin.
As the music echoed, the entire venue fell silent. After the venue was quiet, the orchestra suddenly changed its technique, and the rhythm gradually became faster. The music played began to change from soothing and melodious to steady and rhythmic. The whole transition was seamless and smooth, without any abruptness.
The music progressed step by step in a steady and slow bass, and seemed to be gradually brewing from low to high. The giant screen on the stage slowly opened as the music progressed in an orderly manner. Between the opened screens, people saw a figure wearing yellow and red striped men's clothes, holding a cane, wearing a top hat, and wearing a half-mask.
Just as the audience was wondering if the figure in front of them was the host, the music that had been gradually accumulating suddenly broke out, and the fast-paced rhythm surged up while startling the audience. Moving along with the music, it was the figure standing alone on the stage. He began to dance to the music that was rushing like a river.
The figure danced quickly on the stage floor, creating a high-speed and cheerful rhythm with the music. The body swayed and twisted following the steps and music, and the cane was constantly waved alternately between the hands, sometimes stomping the ground to keep the rhythm, and sometimes spinning like a juggling stick, dropping it from the hand and then catching it again.
This is a show-off dance. The dancers on the stage move quickly, powerfully, directly and precisely. The dancers' whole bodies and movements are integrated with the music, and they act as if for the rhythm itself. The high-speed running and dancing seems to never stop, ringing and jumping like a heartbeat, until forever, until death.
The performance started with such a difficult and fast-paced dance that the audience's emotions were immediately ignited. Applause started from the moment the dance began, and as the music and dance reached wave after wave of climaxes, the applause also continued.
